3.48 is exactly why I sold my Take 5 for a prophet 6. It just delivers that rich creamy sound the T5 can't quite get to imo.

Thank you for this tutorial. After previously only using soft poly synths, I couldn't understand why the Prophet was dominating all tracks I was using it in. When I saw you make that lush epic pad, with one oscillator and a bit of chorus I immediately realised why. Btw I have copied that pad and it's now my default pad sound. Thanks again bro. Subscribed!

Thanks a bunch! I've been thinking of going back and doing the p6 vs ju6 chorus comparison again since I discovered that cranking up the wet/dry mix is actually a useful thing to do...Also I want to compare the envelopes, since they seem very different

One question - when having the init preset aktivated- is the LFO running and pitching the OSC1?
@auxorion4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you could do a bit of a deep dive on the Poly-Mod. I understand how it works, but I tend to use it as mostly a key-trackable LFO. I'd like to understand better how those wild cinematic riser/drone sound effects utilize the Poly-Mod (something used in soundtracks since the original P5). Just scrolling through the presets I hear some craazy, atonal, dissonant noises that sound either really random or that rise and fall.. some examples I found in the base presets: 516, 981, 724, 696, 969, 618, 643 I know that's a world of synthesis all on its own. But I'm curious if you have any insight on the general philosophies of that kind of sound design synthesis on the Prophet

Definitely! I'll be covering poly mod for pads in part 3 and I'll make sure to cover the freaky, atonal ambient pad kind of stuff for ya :)

Love this tutorial. Can you do more Prophet 6 tutorials? Like tutorials on how to do keys, bells, strings, sfx? I don't really see any on KZbin. Thanks again and I am subscribed 😎
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I like the idea of doing some bells, that's a good use for the for ring modulator. Here's my favorite string patch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnPJhmuLbKmhg5Y. SFX would be fun too!

thanks alot for the tutorials, super useful:) Is there a reason why I don't get the same amount of chorus as in this videos, even if I used the same settings as you suggest? could be a mono/stereo setting? (I set mine as stereo)
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
No problem! Oh that’s interesting. I’m running my Prophet in stereo. Are you using the latest OS? It should flash the version number in the patch number area when you turn on your synth. The other possibility is that your audio interface directly monitors in mono, I know some of the Focusrite Scarlett interfaces do that. I’d suggest testing the stereo image with headphones plugged into your audio interface and comparing it to plugging your headphones straight into the P6 and see if they’re different
@aletrustno13 жыл бұрын
@@Sound_ology Just tried to bypass the audio interface going directly to my active monitors...now it sounds as it should be 😅 Thanks alot for your suggestion, I got my prophet a week ago and I still have to dig all the sonic parameters. Looking forward to some of your prophet-y stuff, your channel is great!
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
@@aletrustno1 Great! That issue got me for a LONG time, I was so confused, when I would record my P6 everything would sound different than when I was just playing...then I realized it was my audio interface summing everything to mono for direct monitoring. Since then I bought a better audio interface.

I've heard that you can driver the mixer section? How much difference in tone is there when you pull the osc vol back a bit in the mixer section? Great sounds!
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I go into detail about this in part 4 of the tutorial. The oscillators don’t distort in the mixer section, that’s a rumor that I found out to be untrue. You can also see it on an oscilloscope if this happens. But their volume does affect how they hit the distort knob.
@marcuswilespage3 жыл бұрын
@@Sound_ology I agree that I don’t hear any difference in my P6 either with the oscillators turned up or down (other than general level), but in the manual it says this on page 19! I understand why people would say this if if this is found in the manual, even if I don’t necessarily hear the filter drive. Perhaps it affects the resonance? “Rather than limit the Prophet-6’s outputs to keep the instrument from clipping, we allow you to adjust levels at various points in its signal path. This gives you the option to “overload” things in interesting ways, if you wish to do so. If not, try reducing the levels of the oscillators in the mixer section, the env amount parameter in the Ampli- fier Envelope, or the resonance parameter in either the low-pass or high-pass filter.”
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
@@marcuswilespage hm it could certainly be some interplay between the resonances of the LPF and HPF that causes clipping when the mixer is hot. I suppose that’s a fair exception. But that’s a pretty extreme case, definitely not what happens in your average patch. Or they could be talking about the distort knob being involved too
@kevinurso19444 жыл бұрын
Where did you learn those 2-5-1 voicings?
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
Not sure which ones you’re talking about but a lot of what I know about 251 voicings started with Sangah Noona and Aimee Nolte’s channels. They’re both awesome resources, although piano voicings don’t always translate to synth that well
@miket72813 жыл бұрын
how did u get nothing in the bank number section.
@Sound_ology3 жыл бұрын
I'm in panel mode. You can get to panel mode by hitting the preset button, then what you see with the knobs is exactly what's going on with the synth, so no presets.

thanks beautiful video 😎 .....what do you think about the sound of the prophet rev2? did you have the pleasure of hearing it? I am undecided between the two , but your videos are pushing me to p6 😅🤚🏻
@Sound_ology4 жыл бұрын
I think the rev2 is awesome. Playing one was what first got me interested in Sequential synths. In a back-to-back comparison the p6 wins for sure, but I bet you can make lots of patches on the rev2 that would fool me into thinking it was a p6.
