Mackerel are considered AMAZING bait to catch bigger fish, including Striped Bass, Bluefish, and even Bluefin Tuna. However have you ever considered eating them? Many cultures outside of the United States eat mackerel on a daily basis! Japan, France, Romania, and Korea all have mackerel as a staple in their cuisine. Yet it is widely considered in the United States as a "trash" fish due to its association with bait.
In this video I catch and cook Mackerel in middle of November! You're not going to miss what I make in the end with this fresh caught mackerel.

@Tackle2thePeople Wouldn't it be better to use it as bait to catch tastier fish like Tuna? You would also make money from using it as bait rigjt? Plus if your catching them from a boat it costs money to get out there, catching some Tuna would cover the cost and provide a bigger and tastier meal. Thanks for using my "and sure enough" in your most recent short!😂

Sturgeon is considered trash fish by a lot of people because they’re bottom feeders. But we harvest caviar from them and if you’ve never tried sturgeon meat it’s one of if not the best eating fish in the world. Fry it up and it’s literally like a fried chicken texture, taste and all

Chiming in on your comment about salting fish as a preservation technique: that is 100% true. I brought that up with my grandmother at thanksgiving this year since I have been getting some nice croaker over here in California and wanted to know how she cooked them. She was born back when Korea was just one country, undivided and grew up during the occupation. She said that they used to eat plenty of fish and that to keep them from going bad they would salt them then dry them out in the sun. They did not have refrigerators so I guess it was better than letting it rot. As an added bonus, salted and dried fish is absolutely delicious when fried in a thin layer of oil.

We have tons of Spanish mackerel here in Texas. Mostly people don't eat them but they're much better than seatrout. I even prefer them to redfish. They don't freeze well unless they're brined and smoked first but fresh they're firm and white. Since nobody keeps them we catch 5-6 pounders [pretty regularly and they fight like demons.
