We're wandering around Barangay South Cembo looking for some good food and we stopped and talked to some traffic cops and bought some bananaque and turon from a street vendor (as well as heard a little gossip about a street vendor!

Hi @TagalogKurt, aim for comfort not fluency. Once you're comfortable speaking with even broken Tagalog, Filipino will appreciate you and guide you to be more fluent. Good job!

Kurt....some essentials to bring on dry season in the Philippines: .bimpo or washcloth .extra shirt in the bag, light colored .cotton tank tops or ribbed tanks .folding umbrella .sunglasses with uv protection or dark tint .water bottle, silicone to save from weight .lots of loose change and bills to buy cold drinks and fruits on the street

@@tagalogkurt yup. Never never use sleeved shirts.....cotton tank or undershirts like fruit of the loom is better....well you can use typical shirts but choose the thinner ones as it gives more chance for air passing through. Also, make it baggy or larger so to give space between skin and your shirt. Also if its unnecessary, never go out between 9.30am til 3pm. Or of there are important things for you to do, typical pinoys go out after 2.30 so as not to "salubong" the sun when it is on its highest set at 12pm.

@@tagalogkurt Starting from rom 4:06 Nelson (Guy): Ba't (bakit) nilagyan nila ng camera (sounds like it) 'yon (iyon)? Lady Vendor: 'Di (hindi) ko alam. Guy on the left: May bibili...may bibili. You talking. Nelson (Guy): Bawal 'yon eh! Ba't 'di man lang nagpaalam sa akin? Bigla na lang...binalik nila 'yong (iyong) ano ko? Lady Vendor: 'Di (hindi) ko alam kasi nakita ko... (end part was intelligible) Nelson (Guy): Dapat nagpapaalam sila. There was so much noise in the backgound. Some words are so hard to understand. Looks like someone put up something somewhere without the Nelson guy's permission and he was really pissed. Whatever that is, his mood changed suddenly when he realized that the customer talking (you) is a foreigner. To be fair, I don't think you should question your Tagalog skills in this one because alot of subjects were not mentioned so we have no idea what they were referring to. Also there was so much noise in the background that made some words hard to understand even for native Filipino speakers like me.

I'll give you a tip, the best bananacue has bits of hardened caramel / dark brown sugar on it. If it's pale, most likely it's bland.
