A warning, after some time, the subtitles disappear. Somewhere in the middle of the "withdraw money" part.
If I'm not wrong, we call it 水草 because 草 is straw in English, and 水 is added to specify that it's referring to the tube for drinking liquids, as opposed to the plant material.

I've never noticed something was weird about 还钱 and 按钱 and 喝水 🤣 guess you learn something new everyday. I want to ask, when something is hot, in Taiwan do you say 小心,那个很烫 or 小心,那个很烧? Because in Singapore we always say 烧 but when my cousin came over from China she told us she was very shocked by it because nobody says 烧 over there but they say 烫 in stead. It's so cool how the same language have different ways of speaking because of the different environments we were brought up in ^^

水草=straw(straw in english mean dry grass)用来喝水,所以吸管就被拼成水草, 有可能是老一代新马华人用方言和在用形容词不详细的缘故。

@AN9ELHSU4 жыл бұрын
If u say 水草 without any context, Taiwanese will think u are referring to seaweed. But if u describe that it’s for drink then they can eventually figure out
@fungmeiho29764 жыл бұрын
I remember first hearing 水草 from my late Grandma who hailed from Guangdong, China. My 82 year Father still uses that term. I think I heard my friend from Hong Kong also using that term. Maybe it's Cantonese?
@jjyf784 жыл бұрын
他就对学生说:“May I have a pipe?” 学生听了,很糊涂,就问:“Why do you need a pipe?” 他说:“Have the drink.” 学生一听,哈哈大笑起来。她说:“That’s a straw, not a pipe.” 原来老师不知道吸管在英语里叫做straw,而是把吸管直接翻译成了pipe。Straw可以用来吸食饮品,而pipe则是用来输送液体用的铁管或胶管。 Luckily he did not call it a sucking pipe. 所以说,语言这种东西会随着地域的不同而有所变化,听得懂就好,不必太认真!😁😆😅

Wow! Happy to see you on my channel! Looks like I need to have more English subtitles so that more people could connect with one another! And yes! @risingsun44253 жыл бұрын
It's really easy. Crush the sugar cane and collect the juice. Filter out the fibre, chill the juice and add a dash of lemon before serving. Enjoy your traditional Singaporean sugar cane drink.
I also eat kentang grow up one. I support that Banana guy's comments. ps: I grow up saying it as "Bee Tear Mak" as in tearing a paper "tear" (cuz I'm Teochew). In Hokkien then it's "Mee Tai Mak". The "mouse noodle" thing I think come from Cantonese cuz I first heard it in HK in mid-90s, they call it "lou shee fun" (mouse noodles) cuz they look like tiny mice.
@Solkarnar4 жыл бұрын
