The study is apparently called "The Cost of Satisfaction A National Study of Patient Satisfaction, Health Care Utilization, Expenditures, and Mortality" from 2012. She is taking the main outcomes out of context and interpreting them wrong. The study basically suspects that people who are more ill to begin with, hence need to rely more on physicans, merely report a higher satisfaction. It certainly doesnt mean her 1-star reviews mean her patients are safer, which she seems to imply.

I went to fact check her and found a different study that claims that there is no substantial evidence that physician care directly impacts patient health outcomes. That study also cited previous research that claims higher satisfaction is correlated with improved patient outcomes. I honestly didn’t feel like reading all nine of the cited works, but I’ll leave the original here, if you’d like to look at any of it. If I’ve gotten anything wrong I’d appreciate any corrections, as I’m not well versed in statistical analysis or the language used to describe data. Found on the National Library of Medicine website: “Are Patients’ Ratings of Their Physicians Related to Health Outcomes?” (2005)

I heard from a doctor once that no one knows better than a patient talking about their own body. Of course doctors have the knowledge, but is very important to know what the patients have to say. And also, doctors are always learning through their patients. Maybe one day she can come across something she’s never seen or studied before… what she’ll do then?
@crystalcroft2041Ай бұрын
@@marivonteese Her opinion would still matter more! Lol. You can tell by the tone of voice she is very condescending. And that is who she is. You guys did her dirty, she mentioned the study to get you thinking outside box, outside cookie cutter review format. There is no correlation between the inverse 1star and improved life quality. She was simply implying that the ordinary Walmart Andy does not have the nuances and insight to construe what warrants a good treatment. Dermatology is in high demand and too few docs, on top, skin is very personal to people hence the heightend tension. I feel for the doc because not only is she dealing with all sorts of clients but also running a business on top of being medically qualified and trained.

Exactly, patient satisfaction is not always aligned with health outcomes or best practices of care. For example, people who request an antibiotic anytime they are sick despite the antibiotic not being applicable to their diagnoses. If the doctor gives in the patient os satisfied and would leave a positive review. If the doctor does not prescribe the antibiotic that would result in a lower review and sense of satisfaction from the the patient.

Stinks that the doctor could not reflect and see that the previous client stated nothing on the experience or education of the Doctor yet instead made a comment about the doctors ability to connect with her clients. Having someone you cannot connect with and where you only feel like a number takes away from the experience making said individuals not want to come back.

Well i dont know, i had a chemical peel quite a few times and my dermatologist was very nice and thorough. It did feel like a spa. She was nice and procedure was quite costly. I did feel appreciated and my concerns were taken into consideration. So yes, when we go to procedure its not only technical style or quality of application- good result is great, but we arent robots, yes its not a therapy but just a nice conversation between you and your doctor does matter. We like being heard and respected and get solutions. Especially if you are paying it from you pocket and not some sort of insurance.

Bedside manner is a big part of becoming a medical professional. It’s not a take it or leave it component to the job. Especially in this type of setting where your face is getting burnt off… you want to feel like the doctor personally cares for you and you’re not just a number they will never think about again once you leave. We all know the feeling. It’s quite egocentric to think you’re too important to need to show concern or patience. I think it would’ve behooved her to acknowledge the patient’s feelings and aim to be more personable and warm to her clients in the future.

Dr Strachan actually made good points. As a provider, she has to see multiple people everyday and yes she may come off as short or uncaring but she sees what you need, does her exams, diagnoses, treats and gets you on your way. Next patient comes, repeats. Im sure in unique dermatologic cases, she will be more personable but u just want a face peel, no need for a full breakdown of your life lol.
