Now take a rubber band and wrap it around the top of the lighter so it passes UNDER the thumb switch several times, and the switch cannot be accidentally pressed while in your pack or pocket, plus you have a rubber band handy for keeping things together or to use as extra tinder.

James's channel is fantastic. His 1790 series is absolutely a must-see. I skip the hacks videos. Any time I see a clickbait headline like "You've NEVER SEEN this before!" I move on and don't bother clicking. It feels like being yelled at by a used-car salesman. Which is unfortunate because the 1790 Series proves he has quality content and doesn't need clickbait to get attention. But I'm still going to skip those out of principal.

Always good with the tips. Thanks. Here's another one... If your lighter does run out of fuel, save it, cut the bottom off about one quarter inch up, pull the tube out and fill the chamber with cotton coated with Vaseline. Tape the bottom on with duck tape. Use the cotton for tinder or first aid. Remember people, only lighters with the spark wheel will work.

This is like some kind of brainstorming, but one video at a time. I follow James Bender too and he does have great ideas. FUEL LEVEL HACK: all Bic lighters of this type have the same white semi-translucent bottom, from black to white including wrapped ones. Hold your lighter overhead at an angle while looking at the bottom (you do need sufficient daylight with darker ones) and you can see the fuel level almost was precisely.

Good video and tip Blackie. I usually put my flashlight right up to the lighter and can see the fuel level unless the lighter is black. I shouldn’t have to mention it but turn the flashlight on or it won’t work...you never know who is reading this. Lol

I use a small zip tie which is just the exact width to fit under the bottom of the thumb switch so that the fuel does not escape when accidentally pressed in your pocket. I find it to be more practical as it is easier to remove and put back on.

One thing you didn't mention about the guitar picks. They usually come in thin, medium and heavy thicknesses. Thus, a heavy one will have more highly flammable celluloid than a thin one!

Great video, Blackie. I didn't know that, about guitar picks. I will definitely have to pick a couple up. Personally, I use a refillable lighter. I can see how much fuel is left. It gets the flame further away from my hand. It's more likely to work when wet. And, I can refill it. It lasts longer. Just my two cents

I didn't know that about the "pretty" lighters. For now on I will get them to go in my exotac fire sleeves. Up until now I just replaced them every few months because I didn't have a way to see how much they had left. Great video as always 👍 and as usual ,even if I don't use the exact idea that you show us I get a new idea from watching .

If u can find picks made of celluloid, they should be able to go up in flames with a fero rod( they r hard to find but older ones from China r usually made of that) but most picks now days r made of just plastic cuz celluloid ones have been known to explode when being used to play guitar. Lol. Also if u want celluloid, look into ping ping balls from China. But the same thing as with the picks. Most of them r made of plastic cuz celluloid ones have been known to explode when playing ping pong lol. But u can find some still made of celluloid from China. And ping pong balls r cheap and super light weight and can be squished down flat. Also when working with real celluloid objects, make sure to store them correctly, especially if it is that close to a flame and fuel, cuz celluloid can and will explode from being hit a bit too hard. Which can be good in a survival situation cuz if u don't have anything, but a piece of celluloid, just take a hard rock and wack the piece of celluloid and it should explode so put it in the center of the birds nest and wack it, it should make fire from the explosion. So just a little tip. I collect and repair antiques and I am always having to be careful with things made of celluloid cuz of the explosion and fire issues that can arrive from it. Lol. So just be careful with it. :) stay safe and God Bless

Another great video. You might want to consider running the jute under the valve button a few times to jam the lever. Fuel can and will leak if the button is accidentally pressed in a pocket or bag. Do you remove that silly child-proofing metal strip from between the wheels? If the lighter gets wet, that strip can trap water and delay drying.
