This video is DEFINITELY for those of you that have been afraid to solo travel. As you can see in this video, I am NOT a person who ever thought I would take a trips alone, and I loved it. I also want to say, I'm very honest in this video, I talk about, among other things, late bloomer frustrations, the awkwardness of not having a lot of social connections and the loneliness you can encounter even when you are "living your best life" hopefully this video is evidence that you can feel ALL of those things and still go out in the world and have fun! I also want to say, if like me, you don't have a big social group to travel with and you don't mind traveling with strangers there are TONS of travel groups you can join. The way my social anxiety is set up, I don't know if I'm ready for that yet, but I'm looking into it!

It's beautiful that you make us aware that I can struggle with the negative perspectives of loneliness even when I'm living my best life. Today I was watching a soccer match for young women and I felt a rush of pride when I saw them embrace in a boisterous group hug after they scored a goal. I felt happy for them, but I was aware that I wasn't part of that community. I realize I'm living the best life but man it wouldnt hurt to be part of a community...

Girl, do not stay at a Secrets resort next time! I stayed at a Secrets in Mexico in 2021 for a wedding (I was single at the time) and it is EXTREMELY couple-oriented. It’s just Dreams without the kids. Do not do that to yourself. Stay at a Breathless resort if you go with AMR, there are a lot of upbeat/party activities but there are definitely relaxing activities to do as well and you will probably meet other singles who are like-minded. Great Vlog! ❤

Some of this is in the way you phrase it, I think. For me, international solo traveling is a HUGE luxury (one I haven't gotten to experience yet) because it's way more expensive to do a trip on your own. I think more people travel with others out of necessity than you may realize. There are also a lot of classist notions baked into the way that many people discuss travel-- like you haven't had a full life if you haven't been to a destination wedding or on lots of group trips, etc. I think we should continually ground these conversations in the understanding that many people are struggling just to survive right now and can't afford the money or time off that it would take to even be able to get away, even domestically. So if you are able to do that, you are ALREADY one of the lucky ones ❤️
@firstname83482 жыл бұрын
I think Steph like a lot of people see their life through the lens of social media. Most Americans don't even have a passport so most Americans aren't traveling abroad and going to destination wedding. It might feel that way if you're watching a bunch of influencers though.

@@firstname8348 there is definitely some distorted thinking in this video around what is "normal." She is doing more than what most people are even able to do. Hi Steph! I love your videos and relate to you soo much ❤ $3k is wayyy to much for a trip to Cancun - evening including the expenses for the pup. I would recommend Southwest Vacations - they have all inclusive options which covers flight, all inclusive resort, transportation to and from the resort and excursions (although I recommend booking excursions when you arrive because there’ll be lots of people advertising so you can find good prices then). My trip to Cancun was about $1100 and I took about $300 for spending while there and I think I came back home with some of that! When I was 28 I did a month long euro trip by myself. While I did meet up with friends here and there I was largely by myself. I did Paris , Aarhus , Denmark, Dublin and London . It was fine. People were nice, I made friends with locals , luxury shopped, walked around, enjoyed a glass of wine by myself on a sunny day in Paris , people watched . I think that trip rejuvenated me. I’ve done more solo trips to New York and within the U.S but nothing compared to the European charm. So much so, I almost moved but met my husband a year before taking the jump. It’s so important to open your horizons. Of course safety is to be observed everywhere, but it was still worthwhile. I’m a better, stronger partner now because I’m equally content being alone as being partnered . On the flipside, I barely enjoyed my girls trips. They were full of drama, logistical issues, and generally unpleasant with little room to Meet new people and make new connections.

I have an unpopular opinion - traveling is not expensive. I say this as someone who travels internationally all the time and who has lived abroad for years. For example, last week I went to Cancun for 7 DAYS with my friend. I live in Florida. For a roundtrip flight, 7 days hotel - I spent $280. Then realistically u only should eat out at a restaurant once a day and in the meantime buy local snacks at the grocery store or stands for breakfast, snacks, etc - $Maybe another $150..... and then the week b4 I went on a 3 day cruise - $291 total and all meals included

I LOVE solo travel. Those are the best trips I’ve ever had and will never forget. I’ve had vacations ruined trying to accommodate others. I decided long ago that both my money and my time are too precious to placate others on vacation. Most cruise and resort type vacations I’ve been on have admittedly been with a partner or family. I’ve always taken solo trips that either included a lot of cities in Europe or were cross country trips in places like Egypt or Turkey. It was really common to be solo. I made a lot of friends/future travel buddies and had some really interesting experiences that I don’t think I would have had if I had been with a partner or a friend group. I love waking up in a new place and having the ability to go where the day takes me.

I don’t have many friends but I have one that has been my travel buddy for 20. This video helped me to see that I’m blessed to have that friendship. I’d love to travel solo.

Always wanted to travel with girlfriends growing up, but once we reached adulthood my friends became mothers, busy business women, engaged etc. I had no one to travel with and even now it's like that. I have a bf, but we don't go on baecations lol like he's just now after forever taking me on a weekend getaway... And I had to get on his case in order to make it happen. I would love to be able to travel even if its alone just to experience being in a different place enjoying the beauty of what the world has to offer. I'm a Leo rising and I should tap into it more often otherwise I'll live in regrets ❤

Nice vlog. Just remember, everything happens for a reason. You being there let's other people know that if they are gonna do it alone, find a place that is willing to cater to their circumstance. Also a place where they will be comfortable.

Steph, you're truly a great story teller! You have great oratory skills! I did my first solo trip in June, it was really nice! Sure there were moments I felt a little lonely when I saw couples and families, but it was only for short moments and I went back to enjoying myself. Good thing is the Airbnb I stayed at some single ladies were staying there as well, so I made new friends. I met people on the flight, it was really interesting. Planning my next solo trip in a few months! ☺😊

I’m here for buying 7 bathing suits for 5 days, lol. You worked those suits you looked gorgeous. I don’t travel much and most of that travel is for work but I still love doing it alone. Go where I want, get up when I want, go to bed when I want, do what I want and don’t have to be anyones photographer for their Instagram photo shoots.

Hi, Stephanie! I went through same crap when I went on a solo trip to Hilton Head around Labor Day weekend, thinking kids are already back to school. NOT! The whole resort was full of families and the kids took over the pool. They were sooooooo cute, tho. These 2 sisters embraced me at one of the tiki bars and they did the whole "OMG, you're by yourself!" thing. They meant well, but it was really "FINE", like I am a big girl. I ended up having to dodge them by going to the restroom because one of them was really loud and couldn't control her liquor. It was getting pretty embarrassing. Then they saw me the next day having breakfast, and was like "Where did you go? We were trying to call you to come hang out with us by the pool". I didn't take their call. I wish people would realize that solo travelers actually WANT to be left SOLO for a reason. Maybe we actually enjoy our own company. Then I did another solo to Orlando resort, one of those time share thingamajigs, and OMG, the sales woman brought me to tears asking me the most ridic questions about my marital status. I think she knew right away that I wasn't going to buy their timeshare. I ended up leaving THAT vacation a day early because it was a miserable experience!

A lot of what you mention on social media as far as traveling is honestly not the experience for most people. Due to finances, family, and time off from work most people are lucky if they get to travel 2 or even 3 times of the year. We have to remember that a lot of these ppl are getting paid to do it, that’s not the story of the average person, even if they can afford it. Please don’t feel bad or less than. This is why a break from social media every so often is very much needed, a time to disconnect from warped versions of reality. Regardless, I am glad you enjoyed your solo trip and wish many more traveling experiences in your future.
