If it’s tightly analogous to the KPG, I think a vast majority of dinosaurs and mammals are going extinct. Inheritors would likely be the burrowing and the small generalists. Small mustelids and maybe foxes are probably the only carnivorans to survive. I doubt nonavian dinosaurs clear but perhaps the more specialized burrowing Thescelosaurs could pass the proverbial test.

Marvelous episode! The red panther has, since the first time I found this saga, my favorite big cat of Kaimere, such a powerful mammalian carnivore capable of taking down dinosaurs, it's truly a great achievement for all mammals on this wild world. This has also inspired me to add a jaguar analog into my own King Kong related project, which would be a descendant of nimravids and, while more solitary than the red panther, this animal will also hunt dinosaurs, as well as large fish and other armored prey such as crocodilians, turtles and even giant crustaceans.

Another great episode! This was definitely a fun one to chat on, and the machairodont aspect allowed you to be more experimental. I did enjoy that when we started talking, you were mostly thinking a jaguar inspiration, but then as our discussion progressed, you added quite a bit of cheetah into their ecology. Cool to see this type of combination, and acknowledging that this prehistoric subfamily would've had multiple different behavioral and ecological quirks from pantherines and felines. All three subfamilies did coexist in multiple locations across timespans after all!

@TalesofKaimere3 ай бұрын
Something I try to emphasize is that while they have a lot of advanced technology, kaimerans generally lack the robust workforce to make such tech available on an industrial scale. They do have factions with robust industry, but for the most part, the this industrial focus is on agriculture. Kaimerans age very slowly, are often more careful as a consequence of anticipating a 5-7 century life, and also their magic is very demanding on their metabolism, so they need around twice as much food as a human of the same size. All that means getting a substantial work force that is willing to endure the sort of shall we say efficient conditions needed for industry on our level is hard to come by. They have a lot of very advanced tech (some have microscopes, understand microbiology close to our level, etc) but a lot of the infrastructure just isn't there. For example, Bolondakoi has steam powered carriages, but very few places in Kaimere have roads for them, so even if you can afford the obscene price of a steam car made entirely by hand, you're likely better off just riding a horse since it doesn't need the same careful roads.

I guess man eating big cats is a thing because they're relatively recent and evolved mainly on Earth, so their evolutionary behaviour is more "tuned in" towards hunting primeapes/people? Red panthers being far less prone to man eating (outside of almost unheard of certain circumstances, like if they were starved and mistreated in human captivity perhaps) because they're big cats that have deeper evolutionary roots in Kaimere alongside therapod dinos (who are also less prone to predating primeapes and people).
@TalesofKaimere3 ай бұрын
Indeed! While red panthers have been among people for 1.5 million years, they tend to favor habitat where people avoid in Kaimere. However, they are acclimated to people in the Seridic wetlands. It may be that region has more man-eaters, but as the Serid dislike the Great Library and Empire, not a ton of studies have been done there on human-animal relations

@@TalesofKaimere It must happen, but it's vanishingly rare (if they're literally starving or misidentify), and even the more familiar big cat predators don't really kill and consume humans often in absolute terms on Earth or on Kaimere (even if there is more of a spike of big cat attacks on Kaimere due to pressure/partitioning forced by Archosaurian super predators and most Kaimere peoples living at a more exposed hunter gathering to Iron Age level).
