Just some points that I picked up on (I'm a shitter so mayber there are some holes in these): 1. C9 consistently make it out of groups by having good macro decision making. 2. Just because you are not playing against it, doesn't mean you can't practice it. You have coaches, analysts and scrim sessions to hone your skills and play a clean and controlled game. You don't need the best partner to play against, you just need one who is trying. 3. The "See-Saw" is played really well if you know where the enemy jungle is or will be (counting cs is for cavemen lul). If you know the enemy jungler is going to be top, and you jungler is in a possition to intercept or help top then you don't need to pull back anywhere. 4. Koreans are better because they have a culture of respect; they listen to their coaches. The communication and co-ordination is purely a product of this respect and training. 5. Not really a comment but more a note. Notice how everything Regi lists that a jungler needs to do is reactive rather than pro active. Not really grounds to make an argument but I think it's interesting. (Explanation from Regi's side came later on) 6.17:00 to 18:00is basically Regi confirming the community suspicion that he likes to be very hands on. 7. To take on the pick-ban points, Regi is correct in this to an extent however it seem from him saying "it's what the players want to play" that they have their priorities in the wrong order. In a do-or-die situation you need the best setup possible for victory, not what makes the players happy. Happiness come from winning and making quaters. Anything else I don't feel competent enough to comment on or didn't jump out at me super hard. Any comments are welcome :)
@lloydreyes2657 жыл бұрын
Just some thoughts about your points: 1. C9 consistently makes it out of groups because they always play with the winning conditions in mind, not just in-game. 2. They can practice it, it's just that they won't. Even they are a different iteration of TSM, they really do not care that much on team composition, especially if you are a smash-lane-win-game kind of a team. 3. Zirene explained Sven's warding mistakes on the TSM-Misfits tiebreaker, just to plug it in. They are really good on countering textbook ganks. but Worlds-caliber teams (yep even some from the Wildcard regions), do not rely on textbook ganks. 4. The problem with NA players is that they would want to pick what they feel (and think) would MAKE them win the game. This is, IMO, what makes NA players somewhat hard to coach. They are ready to defend their decisions to the coach (regardless of who's actually correct). Regardless of the coach's decisions, they are much comfortable in trusting their instincts. 5. SMASH-LANE-WIN-GAME. This is TSM's most preferred winning condition (aside from controlling the enemy blue). 6. Yep, and that really sucks, because domestically, being hands-on pays off. But at the international scene, nah. 7. They really need a coach. But I think, IMO, NA players would love coaches who are like have deep knowledge on the game and is mechanically proficient to understand intricacies of laning mechanics, regardless of anything. But yeah, this is just me. I'm just an outsider as well.

The Korean people idolize the esports players like people in America idolize football players. In America, people really dont care about gaming or think it is a joke. Even when you have your own gaming house and such and a good environment to work in, nothing compares to places like Korea that really have players who are being brought up encouraged and nurtured to play these games at a high level.

"The competition in our league needs to be better" While yes, that's somewhat true. It's definitely not the reason TSM didn't make it out of groups. The third NA seed gets into quarters and was incredibly close to making it to semi's. Post-series all the analysts agree C9 could/should have won that series if they didn't missplay during the A-sol game. They were in a harder group and took World Elite (the team TSM struggled with in groups) to 5 games. The problem is TSM.

C9 got out of groups because EDG shit the bed. They went 3-3 just like TSM. I'm not making excuses for the way TSM played, they were WAY to passive and failed to adapt. But the fact is, Misfits and WE stepped it up in week 2 and EDG and AHQ didn't. C9 got a free ride out of groups

@LTslimjim7 жыл бұрын
To everyone that doesn't accept the truth that since in NA TSM doesn't have to strategize as much as say C9 they don't get the point. C9/TSM played relatively the same despite getting out of Groups vs not. TSM being upset by a weak FW was their issue; aside from the terrible draft vs WE in game 2 with 3 weak lanes. Go watch Weldon's video on why Korea and SKT remain so dominant. There is a reason it's always KR vs KR or LPL in finals (in the other instances outside of the TPA outlier in S2) C9 arguably does have to do more to try to win domestically vs TSM. This may also be a reason why MSF peaked while G2 didn't advance. Your most talent reliant teams will not THINK complex enough and perform on strategic level when they are not consistently challenged. NA doesn't have enough strategic powerhouses. LPL has choked before as well but has always been strong in a meta that could play around botlane. NA has always had weak botlanes; other than maybe aphro/dl. That's why dl didn't respond favorably to comments TSM has a good chance due to ardent meta. Small sample size bias here is missing the big picture. NA & EU; but particularly NA, will continue to fall short as a region due to strength gaps. EU is willing to play more cheese or counter meta (not cheese in a negative sense) and NA tries too hard to copy LCK without the infrastructure to do so. You can't play like Korea without the environment that lets you test the best levels of LOL strategy without other opponents to practice your execution of it. This leads to false sense of ability to play at a high level. Most people that follow TSM or NA realize their strength has always been over a series and not Bo1. That's another reason that points out disciplined strategic play is something they lack. It's part of the problem and part of why "TSM sucked". Reading into it as just another excuse is to fail to educate yourself. Pointing to a competitive MSF series vs SKT; is the exception. Peaking and winning despite being the underdog is not the same as consistently competing in world finals. MSF lost in the end, but that would've made a good finals from their performance. TSM will need to coach up support and jungle to think for themselves instead of having perfectionist play caller Bjerg or too hyper DL trying to be the bigger voice when shotcalling. The team chemistry will require higher level of synergy instead of the skills based approach. I see Bio and Sven playing on a leash and not creative around the laners. TSM 2016 would've destroyed 2017 just because at least they knew how to execute as a team early game. EDIT: I might add the obvious point of needing better on stage coach and dedicated analyst. Parth was asked to do too much and if you need your owner taking control several times a year the writing is on the wall. C9 got Reapered at least; who out draft WE in 4 games arguably and could've won the series 3-0 if his team didn't choke it's early game lead in game 1. Regi needs a good Korean strategy/minded coach; doesn't have to be Korean, and then let them do their job and never let your players override them except on specific p/b stuff. Coach your players to learn other roles and improve in game synergy to allow strategies to be developed that they can actually execute.

2:15 "if each team is equal mechanically, (the win) ... is decided by drafting and strategy." In this case, it doesn't matter what region that you belong to, if your drafting and strategy is improved then you will win more games. That just highlights and underscores how important that coaching is, which directly relates to better drafting and strategies. You need a better coach on TSM

I understand that winning worlds is a big goal that teams strive for, but the pressure and mental blocks that can come from just focusing on it are pretty great. TSM hasn't gotten out of groups yet and I do believe that the biggest reason for it is just mental blocks. They are too focused on the task at hand (winning worlds, or getting out of groups) and not focused enough on just improving. It's the difference between being outcome goal oriented and task goal oriented. Outcome goal oriented would be focusing on winning worlds and just on the outcome of everything you're working for. Task goal oriented would be focusing on improving in order to be the best players you can be. If C9 can make it out of groups, i know that TSM can. Just need to overcome the mental blocks. In my opinion I think if they keep going at the rate they are then they may not ever make it out of groups. Of course this is just my opinion and I am not in the team dynamics so this is just from what I can see, but I do believe getting another sport psychologist would help. I am currently taking a sport psych class and the information I am learning is really helpful. Honestly I think having a sport psychologist would really help them out a lot. Just need to overcome the mental blocks and they will be all set. Gotta forget about winning worlds, just focus on improving, celebrate the wins and be happy with them, and just have fun playing the game. Winning worlds will come, when you stop trying so hard to do it. Focus on improving, and as a result you will win worlds. Hope the best for TSM! Next season I know you guys will do great.

honestly i think if they made it so teams wouldnt get relegated then tsm could suit up a tsm b team then go scrim spring in korea, im sure having a non competing team to practice strategies against would be something koreans would want to have. What I find curious about the fact that you have to compete with the best to be the best. I have found that for example in boxing you don't always pick a strongest opponent to train with but a lower tier guy with a same style as the best. It's just food for thought. The way i see it is that TSM is trying to create a team that resembles SKT from 2015, however that was a different meta with better players in every lane. Personally i think they should go for an aggressive play style, and try beat teams early like LZ did against SKT this LCK. I think if they go for this hyper aggressive, mash mouth approach they will be able to catch teams off guard, especially Korean teams like SKT that prefer to play late.

Reginald does a good job covering up his true emotions and intentions, but a telling bit is at 28:25 where he says, "I think the draft was really bad BECAUSE we were playing awful." This shows that Reginald quickly lost faith in his team due to what he considers performance issues. "The only way we were going to win (on this specific week) was to pick a comp that outscaled (ie easiest to play comp)." He's a hot or cold kind of guy. If you win, you're the best. If you happen to lose once, then shit hits the fan. Reggie's shit hit the fan and he went into "save the team" mode and dictated picks and bans before the game even started. TSM couldn't win with KogMaw because they didn't realize that a KogMaw comp needs some good frontliners to protect him. TSM couldn't win with Ryze because Ryze is a dumb champion. TSM couldn't play to their full ability because Reggie had no faith in them and got into the blame game like he always does and the players suffered for it and no one wanted to give a shit afterward. There's a point to be made, and it is passingly in this video, is that champ draft is super fast. There's not a lot of time to make decisions and to process picks. IMO this hurts the integrity of the game. Sure, it's fun to win a draft by being faster to react to certain picks and strats, but honestly 30 seconds a pick is super short and should be double that at least.

Just started the podcast only 3 minutes in and I'm not buying Reginald's "NA isn't a strong enough regin to win worlds" argument. Let's not forget that Misfits took SKT to 5 games in convincing fashion and actually almost eliminated the possible world champions. This coming from worlds first timer. So I'm really sick of the excuse that NA isn't strong enough when C9 preformed better than them in a harder group. Just triggered me a little.

Can someone explain the difference between the respective purposes of a coach vs an analyst? I keep hearing that Parth was originally hired to be an analyst, but he fell into the coaching position because of a void there. What is the issue with this? And why is Parth viewed as such a bad coach, if he was tired by the best team in NA to be an analyst? I genuinely don't know
@brianmanas84347 жыл бұрын
Alex Chung its more of adaptability. Look at week 2 of worlds in group D. The teams opted for more early to mid game comps and tsm just wanted to scale and coz of that their early game is shit and even om their wins its the same. Especially tsm vs W.E when tsm got rekt early game and got snowballed. They did not adapt at all.

The record between TSM and C9 is actually fairly close. It has come down to the meta/patch they play on that decides matches. In general neither team stomps the other.
@simmills87167 жыл бұрын
That's a mute point. C9 made it further out of a different group for one, and regardless of that, the whole point of that statement was to argue that the DOMESTIC league was not pushing TSM strategically and thus they cannot translate their domestic success to the international stage against teams who can field rosters as mechanically gifted as TSM's that are also strong strategically. This can all be true regardless of the performance of any of the other NA teams at worlds especially because none of them made it far. Misfits are another example of that, the only thing you can somewhat reliably say about them is that they are strong international performers. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're now better than 3rd place in Europe , its quite likely that they will still lose to G2 and Fnatic in the EULCS.

aF Kayzar its not close at all in the past few years TSM has been winning the match up far more than c9 does. Dont look at the total record. Look at the last three years.

Nathan LandShark Please dont be delusional. TSM were stuck in the group of death YET AGAIN. MSF, FW and WE. While c9 had SKT, EDG and AHQ which is basically the group of life.(Legit TSM and SKT are close, but I'd give the edge to TSM, purely based on the fact that Bjerg is equal to Faker, if not better) Don't be blindfolded by your fanboyism towards c9 you fucking TSM hater!!1!

It really just sounds like they over corrected a problem with their team play, where they went from playing too aggressive to not aggressive enough. which a totally understandable thing to happen

Something that is inherently rough about scrim culture is that winning scrims is not very helpful for a team. Its way easier to learn from losses. It sounds like tsm wins alot of their scrims and everyone hypes them up...but meanwhile everyone else is improving and tsm isnt. Maybe tsm needs to reconsider how they approach scrims...maybe they need that echo fox style b team to try shit against. Its just something i thought about.

7:30 not true. This is excuses, meta was ardent, but some teams played non meta with fast pushing lanes. TSM sadly couldn't adapt.

I think reggie is wrong, korean teams have better systems in place so no matter what is going on in the game everyone knows what is going on and what they need to be doing

I personally feel the problem is they train in korea, and try to play and draft like Koreans. CLG did well at MSI because they played their game and who they felt were great picks for the meta. So their playstyle was different making it tougher for other teams to adapt. Why would you try to play like Koreans who have been playing their game better than anyone and knows the ins and out. Just an opinion I want the best for NA but I feel they should stick to playing against NA/EU.
