Prayer is one of the most useless and laziest things a person can do. It's basically wishful thinking in asking for someone else to do something so they don't have to do anything to make it happen. It's basically "Let someone else do it. " mentality. It's just a meaningless, empty way to show you have compassion for someone. It's the "thoughts and prayers" for everything that doesn't go right.

Why do people think anyone but the person they harmed has the power to forgive them? If I didn't harm you, you can't forgive me and have it mean a damn thing. If someone harms me, nobody else has the right to forgive that person but ME! So get out of here with your meaningless forgiveness, Jesse. If you earned that guilt, own it. God isn't going to give you a free ride, no matter how drunk you are on the idea. You hurt someone. Live with it, die with it, or do what you can to make up the damage you did to that person. I actually saw an apologetics video on this. Apparently that verse is _metaphorical_ now... as they all end up getting retconned into being. They explained it as referring to when the leaders of countries come to an agreement or bargain on something. So, basically, God just watches two humans suss out how to get along, and then claims credit for whatever they accomplish by learning to cooperate with one another.

He's arguing for something he cannot demonstrate nor can you demonstrate it is not the case. This is where the flying spaghetti comes in, it's an example of how lame the reasoning is that something is true even if you cannot prove it is. He's basically saying placebo works because you want it to work, the difference is we know placebo is fake.

Another entity as in what? An angel or demon? So demons and/or angels are answering prayers for non-christians?
@basicmountaingriff4 жыл бұрын
"what if a non-christian has a prayer answered" "you have to understand it's not just god, there are other entities" so...... sometimes satan successfully answers prayers?? sounds like we should start asking if all the non-biblical catholic stuff about hell is completely false and if maybe the gnostics were right about the bible being a smear campaign against satan
@smequals4 жыл бұрын
Jesse, if you can’t talk about prayer in a general sense - how it works, what evidence there is that it works, if your God actually does answer some prayers and not others, what priorities your God has in answering prayers, etc, then it does no good to talk specific situations. Hacksaw Ridge is a great story and a true event, but only for what actually took place. There is no evidence that any prayers were answered that day, especially for all the people who died.

Other entities? Other gods? I mean it's mentioned in the bible that there are other gods, but the Abrahamic god just wants you to worship it. If we stay within the Christian faith, wouldn't it make more sense that the bible was created by the devil? So the god of the bible is actually the devil (devil isn't mentioned in the old testament at all btw) and is converting people away from the actual good god/gods? Think about it, it makes so much sense.

I've been pointing this out for years, but then people just look at ME like I've sprouted horns. No, no, everything ELSE is an elaborate, superbly detailed, internally-consistent lie planted by Satan, and the Bible is telling the truth. Uh huh.

i’ll like to see a scientific reviewed paper that shows a statistically significant increase in cases of cancers remissions in some religious community. If this correlation can be shown, than we will have 1) a good reason to study the causation of these remission (how does it happen) 2) very important, we will know christian religions sect is praying to the right God! Because there is only one right, so everyone else must be self deluded right!?

So Jesse forgave himself, noticed that that'd just be selfish and arrogant and decided to put the tag 'god' on him not caring anymore about what he did.

Jesse..... FACEPALM! First off, if you haven't already demonstrated that that "God" actually exists, you cant logically attribute anything to it. Secondly, the use of fallacies as the foundation of your argument does not make those arguments stronger, in fact, it makes it invalid. Sorry Jesse, but your claims are no more or less 'valid' than that of any other theist throughout time, they're totally unjustified.

@Almighty Jesus, LMAO... Sorry to burst your bubble, but your comment makes YOU look foolish. I was raised Christian, I went to Christian schools my whole life and did my senior thesis on the historicity and canonization of the Bible, which was actually the proverbial straw that broke my theistic beliefs, from which I became atheist.

@Almighty Jesus, The difference between you and I, apart from you sounding like and angry, resentful, hateful and spiteful person, while I'm not, is that as a child I was ignorant of the tools needed to differentiate fact from fiction and was indoctrinated to accept fiction as fact, but as I grew older I and gained the tools needed and the knowledge and understanding to comprehend the fact that all religious scriptures are unjustified stories, whereas you on the other hand, went from being justified in disbelief in your younger years to accepting an unjustified and unjustifiable set of beliefs when you are obviously old enough to utilize the tools available. So, who's the "fool"... ;) Oh, and I'm not sure what you're on about with the OT, I was very well versed on the whole Bible by the time I had finished year 6, and while I didn't like it, I was conditioned to accept it as "Gods will". I'm sorry to say, but both your comments only serve to make you look like an angry fool, if I were you I would stop commenting.

@@MrKit9 Don't worry, we have most of the scientists down here, so we have air conditioning and Wi-Fi. 🤘 Up there, they have to _pray_ for the temperature to change, and the Big Guy is the only one who gets to touch the thermostat. And you can forget about Wi-Fi in heaven. The sheer quantity of _porn_ on the internet means it's banned beyond the Pearly Gates.

This is the most insidious byproduct of religion, you only need to pray to god to absolve you of something you did without repentance and assuming the assuaged guilt is god’s foregiveness.

If he if gonna tell us about that medic from hacksaw ridge, that he was always praying and that he was a devoted christian, that he survived and he saved alot of other soldiers lives, isnt that taking all the effort he made and just giving it to god? I mean, the guy chose to stay, stayed up all day and all night trying to find soldiers to carry back and get to a triage, so all he did was cause of god and not himself? I dnt think thats entirely the case.

I love Rudy's eyebrows and I'm very jealous of them because mine are not as good. You might say I covet my neighbor's eyebrows. Someone hand me a penitential of St. Benedict so that I might fully understand the acts of contrition necessary to cleanse this sin of covetousness. Wait, wait, could someone first explain to me why this is a sin in the first place? Did I make God angry by not being satisfied with the eyebrows he gave me? What if I had really thin eyebrows and everyone made fun of me for it? What if I cry myself to sleep at night? If I apply makeup, is that enough to make God angry, or do I need to have a leg hair to eyebrow transplant before I incur His holy wrath? Thanks for any help you can give because I ask god and he doesn't actually reply, thanks.

Jesse wanted forgiveness for his wrongdoing, but he couldn’t get it from his ‘victim’, so he decided to become religious and get forgiveness from God. Amazingly, Jesse decided that God did indeed forgive him, so he felt better about himself. Isn’t that just a wonderful story that anyone could tell themselves to never have to feel bad about any of the bad things they have done and continue to do to others?? Hmmmm… Jesse is also a terrible Christian if he thinks no one should pray for others only themselves. What an incredibly selfish outlook to have.
