the brush is for dry brushing type application, the sponge head one is for dabbing and spotting, and you are meant to do it on a matt finish as it doesnt adhere well to gloss. You also need to matt coat it once you are done.

When using the flat brush from these Master kits, use a X-Acto knife and with the pointed side of the blade scratch a small amount on the surface of the pastel until debris or powder show and it will be easier to capture these debris with a flat brush instead of rubbing it on a flat surface oily pastels. The flat brush works well on flat or round surface for dusty effects while the spongy brush works well for chipping and stain effects.

I purchased some of the Tamiya weathering after seeing your video. There are seriously some great uses for this stuff! Especially getting metal to show thru paint rather than dry-brushing silver (which I know is basically what you're doing here, but the application and medium is different. Now, if you ever get a chance to try MIG productions (if you haven't already) the world is endless as far as weathering. I paint 54mm to 72mm military figures and small war dioramas. I've just recently stocked up on some Star Wars models to start doing them together with my son. I love painting (brush & airbrush)! We're getting ready to start painting Bandai's R2-D2 & R5-D4.... I'm going to try and get away w/ doing paint and no decals, so we'll see. I already have most everything sanded, flash removed and primed. Fun!
@TheFwoosh9 жыл бұрын
+Ronnie Williams You small scale painters have my respect, I think I would go blind painting those. Does MIG do the starship gunk, I think it's called? I've been wanting to try those out. And I dig painting too, but I just got into doing the waterslide decals on these kits (finally) and it is so easy it's ridiculous. Then you can weather right over them with no trouble at all.

AESCULAPTORmark3 yeah, but it depends on what you want to put it on, tank? matt clear, plane? Idk matt or shiny clear, car? Matt or shiny clear coat. If you want it to be matt (not shiny) use matt clear, and if you want it to be shiny use... shiny clear (Bottle will say if Its matt or shiny)

Eyeshadow. Plain and simple woman have been working on different textures and layers for years. There are a million different shades and colors, metallic finishes to nude and natural pigments. You can buy 50 different colors for like $10. For the price of this kit you can find hundreds of different textures and shades. It’s all about contrast and you can tailor your models specific color and terrain across a large spectrum for less money

Wish I knew about these before weathering my Bandai R2 and R5-D4! Oh well, I plan on making more astromechs out of the Bandai model kit design like R3-S6, R4-P17, R2-KT, etc, etc, so I may have to get these sets for them!

Compared to pastel chalk do these Tamiya Powders hold up better? I've used pastels many times over the years but pastels seem to have a tendency to either fade away or (in a few cases) go completely transparent, even when sprayed over with a clear sealer.

I'd say the powders hold up better, they are almost a little oily and stick better.

@@TheFwoosh Disney star wars doesn't offend me. It simply doesn't exist to me. Sounds like youre more offended about my comment. I didn't mean to upset you. I used one of these sets years ago and was just looking to see if I could find vids of people using products to seal the Tamiya weathering product. I wanted to see what it looks like with a clear matte coat on (does it darken down?). Found a few vids but you cant really see. Just about to test a matte coat out on a test piece now. It looks great without any top coat, but thin layers of this product appear shiny, which looks wrong. Thick layers aren't shiny though and look good.

Since nobody here has apparently watched a woman do her make up before...the spongy side is for application, the brush side is for blending. Also, don't waste money on these weathering sets. You can get the same thing from the Dollar Store (or whatever is in your area) for waaay cheaper. Plus the range of colors is far better. Take your wife with ya though. So you don't look like a dumb ass. If you don't have a wife or girlfriend, guess you'll just have to suck it up.
