3 - 4 lbs chuck pot roast
1 packet au jus gravy
1 packet ranch seasoning mix
1/2 - 1stick butter
8-10 pepperoncini peppers

I've made this now three times since I discovered this video and wanted to leave another comment about my experiences. For starters, this is so delicious it is the best dish I can make! I've done twice in the Dutch oven and once in the slow cooker. The slow cooker may take longer, but I prefer that method. The first time I used the Dutch it fell apart easily, the second time it came out tough as a shoe. I take full responsibility, I went off the tracks somewhere. I've used the crock pot over the years and everything always falls apart coming out of that. So I tried that method today in my quest for redemption and it was perfect! Not to mention safer. I'm not used to sticking the Dutch in the oven, and once grabbed the lid without a glove after it came out of the oven. I made sure not to make that same mistake again!

Wow…Thanks Sean for taking the time out to leave such an in depth but yet great comment. I’m so glad everything turned out great both times! No worries, when cooking anything is prone to happen from time to time. After all, it’s happened to me before, and I realized I didn’t allow the beef to thaw out enough. So I found myself adding extra water, allowing it to cook for a longer time to soften up the meat. Thank goodness it worked lol. Have a Great weekend and stay safe!

I got doubt's about the 450' oven. Seems like the high temp would make it hold together for slicing rather than tearing down with a fork. But you did a super great job searing. Me, i would lean more towards an oven temperature of 280' and then wait it out for four hours, maybe even five hours.

A Mississippi boy here, been making this for 10-15 years, and it's an absolute family favorite! GREAT video. A couple tips: - you can use a deer/venison roast just as well (better, IMO) - if you don't have the dry ranch seasoning, simply sub a couple tablespoons of Ranch salad dressing (we prefer it) - you can place all the ingredients in a crock pot before work, set the stick of butter on top, and it will be ready when you get home - Use a crock pot and add cut up carrots and potatoes, maybe some celery - add a tablespoon of jalapeno juice to heat things up just a little bit.

Think I'm going to have to give this a try with a venison roast I have. Never thought of using some of those ingredients until I watched this.
@jakemitchell1671
@jakemitchell1671 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnk1955 I encourage you to do it! I'm not sure what you're referring to by "venison roast," because there are several cuts of the hindquarter that meet the definition of "roast," but in the end it really doesn't matter. Heat up a skillet to med-high with a small amount of oil. Rub the venison roast all around with your preferred seasonings. I like a creole/cajun shake along with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place the roast into the hot pan and brown on all sides. Place the browned roast into a crock pot. Pour the seasoned oil from the pan onto your roast. Add the Au Jus powder, Ranch dressing (wet or dry), and then put 6-8 pepperoncini in the crock pot (add a little of the pepper juice, too). Set a stick of butter on top of the roast. Cook it like that all day for a basic (incredible) roast, OR....add sliced/diced onions, carrots, celery, and potatoes to the mix and make a complete meal in one pot! I promise you....it won't be the last time you make it!! My entire family has been addicted to this amazing meal for 20 years! Good luck!
@johnk1955
@johnk1955 2 жыл бұрын
@@jakemitchell1671 Thanks for the detailed instructions Jake! I will definitely give this a try. As far as the "roast" goes, that's what the butcher labeled it as. Not sure exactly what cut it is, but regardless, I'm going to go for it.

There used to be a wonderful deli style lunch place where I lived before that had this dish served on top of one of their wonderful rolls, and when that dish was on the lunch menu it sold out so fast. You had to get there fast to make sure you got it, otherwise you had to try again the next week! I brown my pot roast the same way and caramelize my onions. Throw in carrots too, they caramelize with the rest. Some kinda good! I roast mine in a Pampered Chef stoneware piece because the textures of foods as well as tastes are extra good coming out of that stuff. I also oven fry my chicken after browning in a skillet, then pop in a piece with a bowl on top. It seals in juices and makes the plumpest, tenderest chicken. Remove the bowl at the end and let it crisp up. I use honey in my oven fried chicken. Oh Lord, I’ve made myself so hungry! I do have a pot of a butternut squash, sweet potato and onion soup already done . . . My stomach is growling so much, yikes!

This definitely looked like the yummiest recipe for Mississippi pot roast I’ve ever seen. The way it looks on top of those delicious potatoes makes a person want to dive right in. You published a really good video explaining every step very well. No one could go wrong following your tutorial.
