The Rays moving to Steinbrenner Field is a win-win for Tampa Bay baseball. The stadium is already built, saving millions compared to a new ballpark, and puts the Rays in a central Tampa location, making games more accessible for fans. The Yankees can still use Steinbrenner for spring training while relocating their Tarpons to a revamped facility like Walter Fuller Park, ensuring both teams thrive. This deal would boost local businesses, reduce public costs, and give Tampa a stronger MLB presence. It’s a smart move for the city, the fans, and the future of baseball here. Let’s make it happen!

As a long time Tampa resident, it was a mistake to put the stadium in St Pete, and even MLB Discouraged this when Tampa was looking at expansion, the physical location, not to mention the Trop stadium is not designed for making money. The penny pinching owner has known this for years and spends the bare minimum on the team. The trip to the Trop is horrid on a good day, but to do this as a season ticket holder for 60+ games is not sustainable. The Tampa area fans, and even Orlando based fans want a stadium in Tampa proper to allow frequent visits. If St Pete loses the Rays, the hope is Tampa or Orlando steps up and gives them a home

If a team in any sport cannot compete financially, and cannot build their own stadiums WITHOUT digging in the publics pockets, then they DO NOT deserve to exist. Contraction should be on the table for the A’s & Rays then. The business model of the public paying for these stadiums, that they can’t even afford to go to, is antiquated.

The Letter two hours before the county commission meeting to discuss the bonds needed to fund the stadium really made the Pinellas Commission angry than just last night after St. Peterburg city council had approved the over 23 million dollars in funds to repair the roof at Tropicana Field Team President Brian Alud said to the media when asked is a deal still on the table. No, there is no deal on the table, so City Council is pissed off and pushes the vote to no later than January 9th for their bonds and re-voted on the repair to Tropicana field, and it gets voted down a massive margin

Forget about expansion, MLB should be Contracting back to 28 Teams with the A’s and RAYS disappearing and the Milwaukee Brewers moving back to the American League to have 14 teams in each League (NL/AL) with Two Divisions of 7 teams within each League. The Top 3 teams per Division make the Post Season (12 Playoff Teams Total) with each Division Winner earning an opening round bye. To appease the MLBPA the Active Rosters would expand to 28 to absorb the 52 MLB spots lost with the addition of the New 56 spots. Moreover, the 40-man roster for each team would increase to 42.

The 2 Division Winners earn Byes, then the remaining 4 playoff teams play a 3-game Wild Card Series (WCS) seeded by record and All Home games for the Higher Seed. Then the WCS Winners Play the Divisional Winners in a 5-game NLDS. I've been to Tampa but I'm not intimately familiar with the area. However, it is my understanding from locals that the main reason the Trop doesn't draw many fans is because of its location in St. Pete which is difficult to get to from the rest of the metro area, particularly the densely populated downtown Tampa which is home to many students and young people. The Rays are a good team and their high tv ratings do indicate their popularity. I would argue their horrible stadium has been a drag on the franchise for decades because it contributes to a lack of character and culture.
@akou65673 күн бұрын
Its also too far to drive too especially on week days during rush hour; 1 hour + from downtown Tampa, or Clearwater, or New Port Rickey, or Wesley Chapel or Lakeland, etc Also not many live in St Pete who are sports fans, heck most aren't even there in the summer, they're snowbirds or business folk. Its a BAD location in the 1st place geography wise, and then you have such a horrible stadium too. Also the public really hates the owner and the BS he keeps pulling trying to move. He lost a lot of support when he tried to move the Rays to Canada

They must have something big in mind which required them to free up cash. Bell Canada is also the owner of sports television network, TSN, which has lost the broadcast rights of most major sports to their competitor network, Sportsnet. Buying the Rays and moving them to Montreal would give Bell plenty of games to show on their network to compete with the Blue Jays on Sportsnet.
