Thank you I’m glad the album played a big significant role in your childhood. A few fun facts: the band started in 1990 not 1989. There’s more songs from the Terminator II movie that we used samples from, one of the ones u didn’t mention is “H-K” in the middle and at the end of the song we use “we live to face a new nightmare the war against the machines” and other songs as well . COW did not play bass on the Demanufacture album. The producer Collin Richardson asked me to play bass cause Christian was so new in the band he didn’t know all the parts and by the way I didn’t change any riffs during the album recording, all the riffs and arrangements are the same from the Demanufacture demo. Ray ,Burt and I were very well prepared with our parts before going into recording this album, we didn’t want to waste anytime cause time is money. I mean u can hear that we were very well rehearsed we were a band firing on all cylinders. COW was just to new in the band Hope this helps Thank you

The man himself has spoken! Dino, thank you very much for taking the time to respond and throw in some of the history directly from you. I honestly can't believe I forgot about the "H-K" samples, because that's one of my other favorites from that entire album. I also find it fascinating how much stories get changed over time and lost in translation compared to what the band members actually say. Most of the sources I use for the pop ups are from publications and/or actual interviews, and even then it is wild how different the reported story is compared to what an actual band members SAYS. But again, thank you, man, and thank you for the years and years of awesome music.

I know FF's got a new singer and I'm definitely gonna check out the new album. I do hope you get Rhys Fulber to produce the new album and take into account a lot of his opinions. I know metal purists get critical when a lot of electronic elements are used but for me that is what has made FF different. I love the mixing and the use of non-metal sounds being brought forth. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Then again I'd say use actual ukeleles, choirs, brass pipes, etc, Feel free to experiment, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear FF doing so even if in not a live setting.

Tank! This was also the first song I heard from them. I rode my bike up to the theatre to see Mortal Kombat when it came out and this song stuck in my brain. Years later, I worked at a record store and happened upon it again. This song reminds me of everything good of my teenage years. Got to see them once live with Children of Bodom and Lamb of God and that show melted me face off. Love everything you do on here, so keep it up!

man your story of fear factory is exactly how i discovered them. 1995 watching mortal kombat in theatres and begging my parents to buy me the record. It had a profanity warning on the label so my dad had to listen to the album in the store first. Sure enough the second track by gravity kills and a very clear cuss word "im FUCKING tired of saying goodbye". Was probably the only swear word in the whole album haha but my dad didnt say anything to my mum and the rest is history. My dad just passed away 3 days ago so thankyou for reminding me of that memory.

My first comment was made before watching the video lol. Glad you mentioned Obsolete in there. Replica was the first song I heard on an Ozzfest 97 complication & I was hooked immediately. I went out & bought Demanufacture & Soul of a New Machine that very day. I saw them a few times including a show at the old 328 Performance Hall in my home town Nashville way back when. Always super intense. Again, great pick... Check out Burt’s band Ascension of the Watchers if you want to hear him doing some different stuff. They have 1 unofficial & 2 official releases now & they are both very different but pretty cool.

My first Fear Factory experience was completely accidental: I went to see a multi-act concert on my birthday, back in '95, headlined by Megadeth. There was one other band on the bill that I'd heard of, Flotsam & Jetsam (which I knew mainly as being Jason Newsted's old band), plus a band that would blow up shortly afterward that went by the name of Korn. But the band that blew me away, to the point where I went out the very next day and bought their first cd I could find (Soul of a New Machine), was Fear Factory. "Scapegoat" is one of my favorite metal songs of all time, to this day. Such a great and influential band within the industry, but one that a lot of metalheads either missed completely or just forgot about. Great to see you bringing them back to your audience!

My fondest memory of the band was a concert in Amsterdam I went to of them in the early 2000s (Christian was the guitarist at that time). My boyfriend (now husband) managed to convince someone of the crew to allow us to talk with Herrera about him potentially doing the soundtrack of a video game we were working on. We hit it off so much, he asked us to come into the tourbus and we spent the whole night talking about music and video games. He gave us his contact info for Herrera Productions. We really do wanted him on board, unfortunately the game got cancelled. :( But we had the times of our lives. Herrera and Hoglan were drummers I adored.

Fear Factory were the first band I got to see by myself (with a couple friends). I'd been to a handful of concerts before, but they were always with my parents, and they always chose the concert and brought me. I saw some great acts (Aerosmith and Elton John to name a couple), but for me to buy tickets to see Fear Factory and for my folks to let me go was a big deal. The show was on the Obsolete tour and I was really, really into them at the time. I was either 15 or 16 and listened to their three albums (at the time) daily. Static-X and Dope opened. I don't listen to bands like Fear Factory much (if at all) anymore, and I have no idea if the bands sounded as amazing as I remember. Regardless, the show is forever etched in my memory as being absolutely amazing. It was so awesome that my parents let me go, and brought me to the venue two hours away. It changed my life.

I will also say that I thought there were 2 singers when I heard this, and that they were using a drum machine. At this time (1995), I can't remember any other vocalist doing 2 singing styles and drums that sounds that crisp, fast and precise. In thrash metal, you just had really fast double bass doing like 32nd 64th notes. When I heard this doing triplets and weird patterns, I just assumed it was a drum machine.

It’s really wild to hear your story of how you got into metal and it being the EXACT same way that I did. I’m a handful of years older than you and I was in middle school when this album/movie and soundtrack released. I had started my journey into rock/alternative music the year before and my first contact with the soundtrack came in the form of the cassette tape. Side A contained all of the industrial rock, techno and trance music which my brother and I constantly played and side B contained all of the metal and a chunk of the original score. So the thing that also pulled me into Fear Factory and specifically Zero Signal is the fact that I was (still am) completely obsessed with T2 as a kid so once I herd that intro it was pretty much game on for me. 🤙🏾

Oh dude. I actually never connected this dot. I love Fear Factory but I remember getting introduced to them with Obsolete. But I made my mom take me to see Mortal Kombat in theaters twice on opening weekend and then I got the soundtrack. Wasn't really paying attention to music yet so I never put this together. What a nostalgia trip!
