I love to watch these types of videos. Not only because it makes me even more exciting of whats to come in my life about 10 years from now (hopefully☺️) but also because it makes me aprechiating my parents even more. My Mama had 3 children in 3 years. My older sister and I are 17 months apart and my little sister and I 16 months. Her first priority are and always have been her children and she stayed at home for more than 10 years. She walked us to school until we were old enough and it was safe enough to do it by ourselfs, we always had a fresh cooked meal at lunch time when we came home and she always found time to drive us to music-classes, dance-classes etc. I don‘t know how she could manage to have 3 children in such same age, have a strong marriage with my Papa, to build a house together and also do the household. My Mama is truely my hero! I know we are blessed as a family! Thank you Mimi for this beautiful video and greetings from Austria to you and your beautiful family !❤️

Thank you Mimi for taking such a conscious and informed approach to parenting....I think often times, parents forget how much power they have over the cognitive, emotional and physical development of their child. I don't know if I will ever become a parent but as a keen learner, the information/advice you've shared have undoubtedly helped further my knowledge in parenting. Thank you immensely for being so generous in sharing your advice (love that you deliver your message in a way that's non-judgemental too) xxCelia

This is amazing! I always admire the person that you are. Being in my mid 20s and not having children for now, this still relates to me because you're putting into words ideas and thoughts I had about what I already felt deep inside from studying sociology and reading about self development, its the most delicate and intense responsibility in this world: motherhood:) I never connected to another person with their ideas so much! but everything you're saying resonates on such a deep level and makes clear sense. SO MUCH LOVE :) thank you for putting this content out here! Love being a part of your beautiful journey xo

Hello Mimi! It is my first ever comment under any of your videos. You are a very intelligent, attractive woman who seems to know what she wants out of life and how to achieve it. I respect it and admire it. There is only one thing though that I truly envy you - it is the fact that you seem to be truly in love with yourself and very appreciative of everything you do e.x. you took care of your daughter without hired help and you seem to be really admiring yourself for it since you know you had the resources to do it another way ( at least that is how I read your videos about parenting since you always always emphasize this fact so it must be important). Most women do it too, most have months and months of sleepless nights, most entertain their kids for hours and change every single diaper,most have no choice. The difference is though, that you admire yourself for it and praise yourself for it and think you are amazing for having done it. Most women will shrug their shoulders, think that is just their duty, nothing amazing and never give themselves any credit for it. I admire this quality in you because it must be extremely helpful in life and healthy for your mental well being. This is one thing that I really would like to teach my daughter - do not take yourself for granted, give yourself a pat on the back from time to time even at the expense of coming across as boastful,full of yourself or conceited because there will be very few people in life who will do it for you whenever you deserve it.

You have blown my mind! I feel like you've given me so much insight into parenting. Love how you talk about being mindful when you speak to Alexa and how you speak to as if she understands everything you are saying...I do the same thing and family has teased me about it. I ALWAYS say children understand more than they can express. It's how they develop a broader vocabulary and master their primary language.

We have an absolute zero screen rule with our daughter. We had the same problem with cutting nails and this is what worked: she was amazed by the vacuum cleaner so my husband vacuums while I quickly cut (and file!) her nails and toe nails. She is 15 months old and recently had her first screen experience. At the doctors the nurse played her a minute long video. It blew her mind bless her :D. We’ll keep up the no screen rule as long as possible

I feel guilty as a mum after watching this video. My daughter is two weeks older than Alexa , not potty trained, loves her tv kids songs and I exposed her to more tv time as when I got pregnant with number 2 I was sick non stop and I have no my or husbands family around. We too live in London but I can’t afford childcare or house help so it’s almost got depressing with how hard and difficult everything is. I am impressed by mimi approach and how Alexa loves her veggies but let’s be real- mimis reality is not an average mum reality.

Dear mimi, thank you so much for this super interesting video! I have one more question: What’s your opinion on buying lots of toys for your child? Sometimes when I’m visiting my friends I see their kids literally swimming in toys and they are basically everywhere! When I’m watching your vlogs I realize that Alexa only has a few lovely wooden toys, her writing board and books 😊 I would love to hear your opinion on that 💗

Hey I know I am not Mimi but maybe you find this perspective interesting. My daughter has a lot of toys because I was going to open a dayhome. Everything was ready to go and than I got pregnant again. I didn't intend to make her swim in toys, because I really don't think more is better in that regard. However when kids do have a lot of toys its really important that they are organized. I have mine organized montessori style where everything is easily accessible to her and not cluttered. Second my toys are either books pretend play or physical activity based. I do not have any toys like water guns guns anything that encourages violent behaviour. She has 2 dolls but ones that match what she looks like and no pretend make up. Its those little things that can make a difference. I have to say she did in my expereince learn a lot playing with her toys , but again I am very selective.

What I was saying, I’ve been recommended 5-HTP supplements and it’s working great for me. It helps to boost your serotonin level, reduces anxiety and stress. I found this so interesting. You can say no to a child and still explain why you told them no. Also, how do you plan on preparing her for failure and make sure shes not entitled and that she has to work for every little thing in the world that she will have?
@kirky9347

A great book that explains everything is "No Drama Discipline." A child will not be entitled if it is cared for with love and understanding. Exactly the opposite.

@@kirky9347 thanks for the reference. I prefer not to use books to raise children because no one child is the same and no one knows my child like I do. That being said, I am not opposed to pointers based off of actual real life experience, not found in a book. I think it's hard for a child to realize that there is more to life than them if they are constantly catered to. This started happening with my son before his little sister was born. Once he realized that the world didnt revolve around him and he had to earn any and every luxury like extra toys and fun outings, he really started to change his behavior.
@kirky9347
@kirky9347 5 жыл бұрын
@@egerena91 you won't read books to learn what other people have to say based off of research and experience? No book is ever telling you that you have to raise your child one way, they are all roadmaps and then each parent molds it to their style. Many books have examples of real life experiences...it is so disappointing to see people so closed off to learning.
@egerena91

@@kirky9347 not closed off to learning at all. Just because I dont parent based off of a book doesn't mean I dont want to learn. Silly to make outlandish assumptions. I read a lot, that doesn't mean I have to read parenting books. So sad to see ppl jump to conclusions all the time these days. You dont know me from adam, so it's silly to say that I am closed off to learning, bc you dont really know.

Dear Mimi, Thank you for always sharing your wisdom and positivity with us! Please, please do more parenting related videos. I became a mother almost two years ago and in my attempt to give her the best life possible- I’ve come across some eye-opening truths about our lives. It has been very overwhelming to learn about all the chemicals and toxics that we are exposed to- even in food. I try given her organic, non-gmo foods whenever I can afford it. However, I feel like I can still do so much more and I just don’t know how. Sadly, like many other people, I’ve been ignorant on many issues. Please share with us some tips on avoiding hidden chemicals, harmful food ingredients, pesticides, etc.So we can learn to protect our precious babies :) Blessings to you and your beautiful family- specially to Alexa Love :)

Alexa is so lucky to have such wonderful parents who are open to learning and trying a different approach. All too often parents bring up their children in the same or similar way to their parents, which is not necessarily the best for the children. How we are treated as children has a massive impact on later life.

I love these types of videos because it inspires me to do better as a person (obviously not as a parent, because I am single and intend to be single). I remember when I was still a kid, my parents, grandparents and relatives talked about how we, as Chinese people, should get married in a certain way bla-bla-bla or how our careers should look like bla-bla-bla. If you watched, "Crazy Rich Asians", that's pretty much the actual lives of Chinese people. Chinese people are very traditional. Marriage is a requirement, a business and a rule that we should follow (otherwise...there is a consequence). They are very competitive, too. They always compare their kids and their kids achievements with relatives. That's why we are not close with any cousins, because while we were growing up, we started to think of them as our "opponents" (not as our enemies, but in a contest kind of "opponent"). When I moved away from them for 5 years, because I made a bad decision to live with my ex-bf who I did not know was a habitual cheater, a pathological liar, a narcissist, a gambler and a girlfriend-beater... things changed for them. When I got in touch with them again after 5 years, they were no longer as traditional as the Chinese people. My family just accepted the fact that I made a mistake of moving away, because I fell in love with the wrong person, but that mistake taught me a great lesson, too. I became responsible and my goals became clearer. Thank goodness, I was never pregnant with my ex, because I would hate to see his child's face for the rest of my life because that child would have been his reason to keep in touch with me, and that would have made me suffer twice! My ex always told me that I made him feel "lesser" as a man because I dont allow him to drink or do "man stuff" (like cheating?). Obviously, it is NOT a woman's job to make a man feel like a man. My ex wanted me to act dumb or to be someone who'd just keep on forgiving him for his mistakes, such as lying and cheating. I suffered for 5 years only because in my head, I thought I had to accept my fate, because I disobeyed my family. When I finally decided to leave my cheating and violent ex, I quickly moved out of his apartment in the middle of the night, while he was out (because he works night shift at a startup publishing company). It took me 5 years to realize that I don't need a man in my life to feel complete. There is so much I can do WITHOUT a man or a partner in my life. I realized that I am smarter and stronger than I thought. I respect and love myself even more. Now, I live in a nice condo with my fur kid named Diggy. I feel even more complete WITHOUT a guy in my life. I can do so many things. I am more productive without him. I feel so much safer and happier knowing that I am surrounded by good people and people with healthy habits. My family is just a text or call away. I still prefer to live by myself just to keep the boundaries. Sometimes, my family still do the same old habits of "controlling" because it has been part of their ways. But because I dont live in the same house with them, they will always remember that, I am not a kid anymore. I need my own space and alone time. I am an introvert, so my alone time is actually 95% of the time. I also work from home and I cannot work when there are people around me. Bottom line is, parents need to be their kid's #1 fan and #1 best friend. The bond should be stronger than outside friends. Outside friends are harder to trust because they have a different lifestyle. Most of them drink, smoke, use drugs, gamble, sleep with many men or women very often, etc. FYI, I only had ONE boyfriend (the violent ex-bf). I NEVER gambled, used drugs or slept with many men, but in college, I learned to drink and smoke for a while. But I have been a teetotaler since year 2013 and I quit smoking after college (2003). These bad habits can influence kids big time. It is important that parents are there to guide their kids about these things and talk to their kids about these reality as early as possible. When they do, they should discuss it with their kids in a relaxed manner; just like talking to a friend. :) I love your videos, Mimi. I have been watching your vlogs since Day 1. ^_^ You inspired me so much.

@@avanteep9144 You said it right. Only a few listened and believed my story. Most of them thought I only made up the story because I was "obsessed" with my ex-bf... which is ridiculous. My ex-bf took advantage of the fact that I am an introvert and he thought I wont tell anyone about his real personality: a habitual cheater and a girlfriend-beater, that was why I posted the full story on KZbin and Instagram, "WHY I FINALLY LEFT HIM"... so everyone would know his true colors. He & his crowd also mocked me & gossiped about me because I "created a KZbin channel". He just did not get it. For me, my KZbin channel is my outlet; my video diary. When I started uploading videos in 2016, KZbin was my safe place. A place where I can be "me". He started hitting me in 2016, the same year we moved to a different apartment (an apartment owned by his bestfriend's wife). True or not, rumor has it that my ex-bf and that married woman were intimate in the office. But that married woman was just "one of the many" women he got involved with. Anyway, years before that (2013-2015), he still couldn't hit me, because we were still living with another couple and their 2 little kids (the guy was our colleague back then). Well, everything we go through in life teaches us a great lesson. I realized that as a woman, I am in charge of my own happiness. As a woman, I should learn to be less emotional and more practical and realistic. Whatever men can do, women can, too. In cases when we cannot, such as advanced carpentry, plumbing, etc.), I would rather hire someone to do the job, instead of using that as an excuse to "have" a man in life so I have someone else to help me do "man stuff" or someone to grow old with. These days, chivalry is dead. For men, their definition of "masculinity" is cheating and beating up women. I am still thankful, because the pain he caused me for 5 years motivated me to finally move out on my own and not because he threatened to drag me outside. :-) I hope I inspired a lot of women out there who are in the same situation I was. "Falling in love is not everything. Self-love and self-respect are."

Mimi..thank you for taking the time to make this video. My husband is 39, I am 34 and we have gone back and forth on whether or not we want to have a child, mainly because I really struggle with how I see parents interact with children in today's world. We have really taken our time, have discussed a lot about what is important to us, how we will speak to our child etc.. and I think its been really beneficial both to our relationship but also if we do decide to have a child. My husband was raised in France and it is VERY obvious there is a difference in their parenting style. Although in North America I find woman tend to take the lead role, I feel like I trust his methods and appreciate his parenting philosophy more than I can relate to. Alexa will be so grateful for your thoughtfulness in your parenting!

Mimi, this was fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing in such great detail & for being authentic with your experiences- it’s great to know we share the same struggles & philosophies/parenting methods. I’m raising my 10-month-old daughter the *exact* same way, including Montessori principles (which I know Alexa is now attending!) Best to you, my fellow Toronto-born/living abroad Mama. Cheers! x

I don’t even have kids but I watched this video to analyze my relationships with my parents and to find out what are the mistakes they made while raising me. Because for quite a long time I had no confidence, I felt like everyone is better in everything than me, and I don’t deserve love and respect. So now I’m a grown up and it is my job to fix those mistakes and to change mindset in order to achieve something in life and more importantly to be happy. I wanna thank you 🙏🏻 Mimi for being so honest, open and for sharing your beautiful journey with us. I love you ❤️

love your suggested books and eliminating NO from our vocabulary. Finally found a great tip to eliminate her screen time tantrums. My 2 year old son is very persistent and can constantly ask me a million times during the day which is exausting so the listen but not watch idea is genius! Thank you Mimi, I love your suggestions. Wow, this was such an education! I'm not yet a parent, but an ex-nursery school teacher turned holistic health coach and I share so many of your child rearing ideas and philosophies. So many golden nuggets of pure parenting wisdom delivered in such a succinct and deeply insightful way that I'm sure many parents will benefit from!! I have a brand new baby niece and believe her parents need to carve their own parenting-path, but I will definitely share this with them so they can take what speaks to them and leave the rest. I love that Bruce Lipton's book has influenced you so much in being mindfully aware of the impact your words/actions have on Alexa's developing subconscious mind and what she's exposed to. My boyfriend is a hypnotist and he will LOVE hearing this as he truly understands how belief's become embedded into the subconscious - children truly are little sponges! So good, Mimi! I'll be sharing this far and wide - so much gratitude, thank you x

💕💕💕 Thank you for sharing!!! This has been amazing to hear! I didn’t learn this from my parents and as a parent I knew my upbringing was not good but (now In therapy) I’m learning why and what went wrong. Watching this has actually brought me some clarity as to what went wrong in my life as a child but also how I’m teaching those things to my child. I’m going to read all these books because I’ve been trying so hard to figure out how to be a good and better mom. The “No” thing that was a big one for me! I tried this and did it for the first 2 years and then somewhere along the way I lost my patience and started a bad habit. Ugh a habit I want to do away with immediately! Thanks again for sharing! You have no idea how helpful this has been for me! 🤗

I think you and Alex Mimi are great parents, I love the vlogs where you are dancing with Alexa, this is what children want, their parents interaction and time. Most of my happy childhood memories are parents and grandparents playing the simplest games with us. Children should be aloud to use their imagination and creativity, I think those things are so important to brain development. And most importantly, I have known people recently who did not feel their parents thought they were worth anything because the criticised and punished rather than encourage, tell their children they are proud of them and love them, even when they make mistakes. This is what goes a long way into making a good, happy, grateful, kind and well balanced human being.xx Love your videos Mimi and love your passion for everything 😄 x

As a mother of a 2-year old girl myself, I'm completely grateful for your advice on rephrasing the "no"s to "I can't let you...". The idea of encouraging a grown mindset is something I aspire to do with my daughter and will be implementing this advice from now on

Thank you, Mimi!! Though I have no kids myself, the video was so interesting and useful to me. The way how you avoid the word No and the ways how you handle in tantrum and meltdown situations, which Alexa presents you, it is really great and educative. You are a bravo mama and that just all in your life would be great! Health, independence and happiness are really important values in life!! 😘
