There's a common misconception that higher penetration means better stopping power. In fact the reverse is true. You want the projectile to dump all its kinetic energy into the target, causing cavitation. This is why hollow points are so effective against unarmored flesh.
@nighthowler81072 жыл бұрын
Some hollow points penetrate more than others and with a freakin shotgun slug it really doesn't matter

I have used the Thug Slug extensively. I use a Mossberg 695 bolt gun rifled barrel. I copied data from Hubel’s “12 gauge Shotgun from Hell” series (posted on just about every shooting forum on the Internet). The slug is loaded into Rocky Mt Cartridge Co. lathe turned brass hulls. The powder load was 80 grains of IMR 4759. I have not chrono’d this load. According to Hubel, whose testing is extensive, this is a safe load...within normal pressures for a shotgun slug. Very accurate out to 100 yards, the farthest that I have shot it. Have also tried 40 grains of Steel.

Well you mostly find thugs in a city. Over penetration is a bad thing in a city. Its best if the projectile does not leave what it was fired at. If it misses then it wont bounce off a brick wall and wipe out some kid. Nor is it likely to slice through an old wood row house and into the one next door. That is a round I would feel ok with using in a urban environment.
@scotts.26248 жыл бұрын
HortonKansas Yes it is called Methamphetamine. It does not get rid of vermin as quick as the Thug Slug. However I think a Thug slug would also appropriately deal with a meth dealer as well as it would deal with a gang member. Of course lets not forget the sub humans that sell heroin. The Thug Slug would solve the problem of those vermin also.

I've used what you call "thug slugs" few years ago. Bought them from Italy (they advertised them as "deer slug" due to less penetration and soft lead) and load them with 2,3 grams Unique in a fiocchi cartridge with a 616 primer and the result was..perfect. A very accurate slug up to 80 meters. I shot a roe deer in a distance of 90 meters and the 27 kgs male collapsed in the spot. For me it is a great slug unless you want to shoot brickwalls or steel doors.

Try shooting a slug without holding the foregrip. The action on this Benelli is very smooth. It definitely locks up normally, otherwise we'd see a huge blast coming out of the ejection port.
@BC4Lyphe9 жыл бұрын
Being that the shells are crimped why such little recoil and failure to eject? Seems like there was very little power in the load and I'd imagine thatd make a huge difference in velocity/terminal performance?
@brandoncowan90298 жыл бұрын
+BC4Lyphe Ummm, that's a pump shotgun, which actually makes this whole thing much more concerning...

What's up with the slide blowing back after each shot? I thought that shot gun was a pump action.

+TAOFLEDERMAUS what happens when you put the fore end up on the rest? I think the shooter recoils back forward and racks the slide... And I'm a big fan of the accuracy of the ThugSlugs out of a 590A1, with a roll crimp load I notice the wad tends to disconnect at 50yds and the slug punches paper straight.... That being said, I now wouldn't take the into brown bear country... I've got your picture on my TShirt because you're my hero.

just curious hope you didn't take offense I figured it would be neat to shot sabot and such. I just figured you could try a rifled barrel.
@lucasgarcia13458 жыл бұрын
the reason why the slug broke apart so easily is because it's a hollow point. the fact that it's a softer lead may have a factor but I'm positive it's mostly due to the fact that it's a hollow point. and as we all know hollow points are absolutely terrible at penetrating armor. the other slugs you mentioned are not hollow points so that is a huge difference between the two.
@reggiep759 жыл бұрын
The shells look the same but the Brenneke slugs have a penetrator. Why not do a comparative test by getting some Brenneke slugs and chopping the face of slug flat and see if it's properties change to those similar of the 'Thug Slugs'?
