Filmed safely at a proper shooting range, we test out Alexey's latest creation. These are 17mm ( .675 caliber) versions of Lehigh Defense's xtreme Pentrator bullets. He has no plans to produce these for sale - it would be a trademark violation at the very least, but who knows, maybe LD will be inspired to produce these.
Check out Alexey's channel to see what new ideas he has!

This was grade A content! Even by your high standards, Jeff. Props for holding off on your fun and ditching the foam loads. The double test of the lead plate really shows that the shape does make a huge difference too. I hope Lehigh is watching and sends you a thumbs up for the tribute.

That's a serious slug for sure! If you have the time, you could experiment with using sawdust as wadding. Some people here use it instead of plastic wadding. I have been using it in my brass shells and it seems to be effective. It would actually be interesting to see in super slow. It's a popular wadding material for very cold weather, as the plastic shatters when frozen. We of course use felt and so on as well, but we have tons of sawdust here :)

Anytime you have a 'single projectile', you start getting into 'rifle cartridge dynamics'...one of the first things that came to mind, was cross-sectional density, and how it affects 'effective range' (e.g.: .338 WM vs .338 Lapua)...more cross-sectional density, more stability, more range. MOST rifle projectiles achieve higher cross-sectional densities by increasing projectile length...and with the brass used here, it looks like you could bring this round up to around 660 or so grains, pretty easily (approaching a .50 BMG round), while extending range significantly. If you could 'put it in the 6-ring' at 200-meters, you now have a solid contender for 'big bore' rifles....350, 375H&H, etc. Great work by the machinist! (and the video)

@LexsLavrov
@LexsLavrov 4 жыл бұрын
The idea is taken from Extreme Penetrator of course. But 12 gauge has less speed than rifles and even pistols. The question was - will it work at a speed that 12 ga can provide. By my calculations they needed 420 m/s to reach spin stability at 36" twist.
@lairdcummings9092
@lairdcummings9092 4 жыл бұрын
@@LexsLavrov length plays into stability; these are fairly short in relationship to mass and width. That explains the need for a relatively high muzzle velocity, to get the spin rate right. Nice math, to go with the nice machine work.
@LexsLavrov
@LexsLavrov 4 жыл бұрын
@@lairdcummings9092 Yes. But there is not much free length in shotgun shell. You must leave some space for gas seal and wadding. Plus making these of brass or copper requires more length compared to lead... just to have mass. So it is balancing in between many contradictory requirements.

Hey chaps, probably someone already pointed this out but still... In the specific case of copper only / brass only bullets, why not get a metal detector and look for them? I don't know much about metal detectors but, I know for certain that different metals give off different sounds. Garrett makes some nice ones, you could get a sponsorship from them and a get a free one (if you do that sort of thing), or you could buy a decent used one and be all set :) I'd love to know your thoughts :D

In general copper is a bit softer than brass so it’s better for the barrel but not as easy to machine. To be specific: www.mcmaster.com/info/what-is-the-difference-between-copper-brass-and-bronze.html

One of my favorite rounds you've tested, and so cool to see one functioning exactly how it's indented to.... except for the nice surprise that unless you hit metal, they are basically reusable! I wonder what would happen if they where machined out of something like titanium and went even faster. I really hope Lehigh Defense is watching this.

Those would be *FANTASTIC* for Everglades' hogs! Also, I predict that the 3 flute version will penetrate *more* and faster, but with a smaller wound channel. Suggestion: Use at least 4 layers of Kevlar with those.
@Vares65
@Vares65 4 жыл бұрын
I predict the 3 flute version won't be as effective as the 4 flute because I'm pretty sure Lehigh defense would have tested a design like that and prob went with the 4 flute for a reason.
@supergeek1418
@supergeek1418 4 жыл бұрын
@@Vares65 Perhaps. I based my guess on the fact that homogeneous media (liquids, gasses, gels, membranes, etc.) tend to rupture along 120 degree fault lines. (To demonstrate this, have someone hold a piece of paper up tightly by its two edges, and punch it, or throw a golf ball, or baseball through it. It will almost certainly rupture into a "Y" with included angles of around 120 degrees.) Given this fact, I'd think that a projectile that naturally tried to do that would penetrate faster, deeper, and more easily, while displacing less of the media that it was passing through. I'm excited to see the video, to actually see what *does* happen.

With 4 flutes each flute is narrower and shallower. With 3 flutes there is 1 flute less, but others are wider and deeper. And I calculated dimessions in the way that mass stays almost same. Plus I sent 6 slugs without any flutes. To have same mass they drilled out from back.
