In this video we test the Russian Twister 6 slug sent in by Psycho Klown. We used "midi-shells" which are slightly shorter than a 2 3/4" shell, which gives just a little more capacity in the tube. Instead of driving these at high velocities, we show how impressive these perform at even sub-sonic speeds. It isn't often our own tests impress me.

They also fired into the cross-section of the muscle rather than into the skin and fat and side of the muscle, which is how it would have hit had you fired on an actual hog, so it's even MORE impressive than you stated here, and that's already quite impressive!

The prototype, the Shirinsky-Shikhmatov bullet is one of the oldest Russian bullets for bear hunting with a 12-caliber smoothbore weapon (1880s). There is a deep expansion recess in the head part, closed from above with a capsule for expansiveness. The bullet was most likely designed for the traditional Russian bear hunting in its winter den. The shooting was conducted from a distance of 5-15 yards, and the bear had to be stopped immediately. Because the bear, waking up in winter, does not go to bed, but goes to nearby villages and eats people, dogs, everything that he can find. And it can kill the hunters themselves. It is very easy to kill a bear with a 223-caliber rifled rifle at 30 yards in the head, the skull splits. But it's not easy to get into a bear that runs, and bears run very fast for short distances. And such a 12-caliber bullet stops a bear when it hits almost any part of its body.

@@taofledermaus No problem. I'm happy to see the difference they make. They were only available in bulk, but definitely worth it. I'm thinking that Steel will ignite behind those 3 segment Twisters. The Shot-minis took a bit of trial and error to get them down to ~1250 f/s, but accuracy greatly improved. I got lazy and stopped trimming the hulls. I found a good load with 18.0 gn Vectan AS ~1260 f/s (in the Alliant American Select range), but I don't know if it'll be available here in the US anymore. I'll be sad if it's not because it was clean burning and dirt cheap (I paid ~$15 for 1/2 kilo).I'm just glad that I have a small stock of it.

@@scottplagmann3411 That is how it has been in England for some time! It takes something pretty terrible for the courts to line up behind the victim. In regards 'too powerful' rounds--the only factor that should be considered is how it relates to over-penetration. You guys tend to have wooden houses. If you unload on some scum bag and you round goes straight through him, through the wall and ends up hitting your neighbour then it genuinely was demonstrating overkill. Hopefully this fragmenting design might take care of that problem. Also, obviously you have to pick your targets and angles, but that may not be possible in the heat of the moment when your home has been broken into. However, I agree--so long as your cartridge only vaporizes the criminal then overkill doesn't come in to it. That guy decided to break into your home and threaten your family. Unlucky day for him.

@andybreglia9431

@agvulpine: The GRAIN is the standard AMERICAN unit of measure for bullet weight, powder charge, and anything related to ammunition and reloading. Metricrap is a series of bastard "measurements " (sic) to be avoided. If you see it in a designation, treat it as its NAME rather than an actual measurement. I got vaccinated against Metricrap years ago and almost got killed in the process. Perhaps I should explain how I got vaccinated against Metricrap. Right around the turn of the 20th century, Germany changed its Metricrap. 8 Metricrap changed from .315 inch to .323 inch. the guy at the next firing point had a rifle chambered for 8 Mauser. His bore diameter was .315 inch. He handloaded his cartridges with bullets of .323 inch labeled 8 Metricrap. They miked out at .323 inch. He chambered the first cartridge. the bolt was stiff on closing, sign of an interference fit between the cartridge neck and the neck of the chamber. When he pressed the trigger, the base of the cartridge case blew out. The stock bulged out at the magazine well. the floorplate blew out. The shooter got a faceful of brass fragments and burning powder granules. His safety glasses saved his eyesight. The extractor blew out just as I was coming up from picking up some of my brass and I got a glancing blow to the top of my head. They found the extractor buried in the wall at the end of the firing line. Because of personal injuries involved, both local police and the sheriff's office investigated along with the range staff. Both had personnel on site when this happened. I still have a dent on top of my skull where I got hit by the extractor, That's how I got vaccinated against Metricrap.

You get more velocity out of the rifled barrel because the rifling causes more resistance on the bullet, which builds more chamber pressure, which propels the bullet faster. Same thing happens with muzzle loaders. If you use a thicker patch and ram the ball down harder, it does the same thing.

Only if it hasn't been powder coated yet. With powder coat on, fresh out of the oven, it's a twister in hot underwear. Or maybe bodypaint, which would mean it's still technically naked although it doesn't necessarily appear that way... 🤔Hmmm...

Very similar to the bullet of Shirinsky-Shikhmatov. He was an excellent bear hunter. Paraffin was poured into the center of the bullet, most likely for sealing, so that the powder was not damp. Such bullets are very heavy - 35-36 grams, the stopping effect is excessive, causes shock to the victim, gives additional time for the second shot. It spoils meat very much. Accuracy is relative over long distances. Thanks for the review! Greetings from Russia.

They are severely limited on what kind of guns they can own so instead have different ammunition for the same effect. They must prove themselves as legitimate and “safe” with their smooth bore before they can even buy a rifles shotgun. I think you can start the paperwork after safe ownership of a smooth bore for 5 years before you can get a rifled gun!

Why in the world would a country outlaw rifled shotguns? The fact that people are making rounds for smoothbores that work just as well, shows just how absurd a law that is...
@john-paulsilke893
@john-paulsilke893 3 жыл бұрын
Range. A rifled gun can hold much higher pressure and thus shoot further. Of course with higher pressure you also get higher recoil and a shotgun can be savage with its recoil even on a smooth bore gun. Also it’s a control of language. A rifled shotgun shooting a slug is definitionally also a rifle so wiggle room for being allowed to own a rifle by the same law(s).

The Expansion Rate is WAY to Slow, You'd Never Build Enough Pressure to Burn Correctly. And More than Likely It Would Fall Out the end of the Barrel. Shotgun & Handgun powders Have to Operate on the same Principles, " Relatively " Small powder charge, But Very Large Swept Volume, and Low Chamber Pressure, I Believe Absolute Max Pressure, For New Shotguns 3 & 3.5" Steel shot is 22 k psi. About 38 special +p Pressure. Where Modern Rifles is Between 50 & 65 K psi. Even the old 30-30 is 44 K psi.
