Michael, would like to see a video of how to trim around the ears, especially if you don't have a skin fade. Say you have a number 4 around the sides, how do you trim around the ears so it stays sharp and clean?

Hi Michael, I would like to see a video of how to trim around the ears too. I cut my own hair, I use number 4 clipper guard as my shortest guard around the ear and back neckline. After about 4 weeks the ear area hair will start to get a bit long and messy and I would use scissors or clippers to trim around the ears only and then it can last for another 4 weeks then I will cut all the hair on my whole head. I do not use a trimmer to create any line because I am cutting my own hair myself it is hard to cut a straight line. Would like to see how you trim around the ears using scissors and clippers after 4 weeks to blend with the other hairs that has grew longer, I am unable to blend it well and not sure where to stop while trimming. Thanks.

I'll get something together for that. Going round the ears is very simple for the barber but can go horribly wrong very easily when doing it yourself.

@@jasonl4237 You have to imagine the shape before trimming and not go beyond. It takes practice, a steady hand and decent tools. Scissors will probably be more trouble than it's worth for outlining yourself. Better off using several mirrors so you can see, and clippers and/or trimmers.

how would you deal with an oversized Occipital bone ? would you shave over it,or find a guard length that falls and lies on it ?

The ideal shape is oval. When looking at the side of the head, so whatever hair you want to cut off or leave you need to visualise creating an oval. That is normally the way I'd make the decision on it. I will try to include that in video soon.

What taper blade did you replace the andis blades with?

That is the blade that comes with the Andis master when you buy it. I had previously retrofitted a fade blade to the clipper so had to change back to the original for tapering. You can still taper with a fade blade but it's better to use the blade that came with the clipper and was designed with tapering in mind.

@@theoneminutebarber The Andis Master I bought didn’t have the taper blade. It had the fade blade. That’s why I asked.

I can only guess that is an update due to the demand of the fade blade. If you check with andis they will direct you to a supplier that sells the taper blade. In the UK for some reason it's a pet grooming company called groomers.
