Cuz they all utilize cheapo rotary encoders. If they had Hall effect sensors, they would have "however many decimal places you want" increments.
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
Hm. I was going to point out that what you're running into is mostly a limitation of the actual functionality of shuttle-jogs in the first place. Shuttle is literally JUST speeding through the footage until you let go (JKL), though Palette has a delay - and Jog is just going frame by frame. There's a better dual-dial implementation in the Contour Design ShuttlePro V2 - but every implementation I've seen has a set speed limitation of basically what you're seeing. But that CRAFT dial is doing something totally different. And a dial is pretty analog overall - so sensitivity may not be as simple as a software restriction.

I'm not sure about on Windows but on Linux you can actually assign keys, dials and knobs from midi instruments and audio mixers to keyboard keys and actions and have them run AutoKey scripts. It's perfect. No weird acceleration issues, massive selection of hardware to choose from. I'm a dev so don't need premiere though.

Great Video Taran, gotta say though, the only purpose of the Ripple is for 3-way Color Correction. So you'd have Lift-Gamma-Gain control over color with the jog balls and luminance with the wheels. It really is its only purpose. I know you'd like to customize its buttons to use it differently but that's not what it's for. You can't even do that on the bigger tangent panels. Because colorists often work on different systems and tangent panels are widely used. So if I work in one facility this week, and in a different one next week, I don't have to figure out first where all the buttons are mapped. When you drive with a car, you also know that the gas is on the right, and the break on the left or the middle if you have a pedal for the clutch on the left. You don't wanna learn your muscle memory from scratch every time you drive with a different car. For more customization we often use X-Keys Keyboards. :-D Just wanna point that out for the Ripple since I'm working with tangent panels on a daily bases. Greetings and keep it up.

Watching Taran videos at work is the best passtime. I love the Craft but I can't get over how nerfed the software is. It's insane. We should be able to set a range of "tappable" functions like the contextual setting gives. It would be a game changer.

I'm two years late to the party but have you considered replacing those knobs with something larger and more comfortable? The dials are standard quadrature rotary encoders with 6mm shafts, so you have quite a large selection of potential alternatives.

The clicking functionality on a dial is called a encoder dial. Ever looked into using a midi controller and Bomes midi translator. Pretty much lets you do whatever you want and opens up an entire market of controllers of your choice.

I reached out to Palette Gear via Twitter a few months back about implementing "Tool Cycling" as a function for the dial module. I work a lot in the Adobe suite, primarily as a visual effects and motion graphics artist, and also occasionally editing short docs or videos. I am constantly switching from my Palette gear kit, to my keyboard because I have to change my tool. I'd love for them to implement tool cycling as a function, where you can choose your most used tools, and just cycle between them.

@johannesm77657 жыл бұрын
The best kind of dial for this kind of work (in my opinion of course) are the ones that you can pull upwards a notch. So for example for scrolling through the timeline in premiere you would pull the knob into the upper position for really fast movement, then push it down for more precise scrolling. I have seen a bunch of audio equipment using those and they are great for pretty much everything.

I still prefer my Contour ShuttlePRO v2... had it since launch and it's never let me down. I bought two at the time to have one as backup in case of failure, but the second one is still sat in the unopened box. Reliable and tough... I've taken out my editing frustrations on it many a time and it keeps on working.
