This is a great lesson. Very helpful. I was a random note hitter but now I see there is a structure to it. Thanks Sped.

Sped Spedding Hi Sped, I’ve been soloing away for half an hour trying not to get too far from the root note. My homing pigeon sense kicks in 😀 Tried a few experimental improvisations of my own. This is really good for practicing. One thing I did do was use your leads but play double stops. Is that a done thing or only under certain circumstances? As I’ve said before it’s difficult to fire in more guitar playing (my work hasn’t stopped at all during the COVID outbreak. Luckily, my job is secure) but this lesson has improved my knowledge and handling of the instrument. Thanks again, buddy 🤟🏼

@@jayw7860 Ah Jay, that's brilliant. I love when people come back to me with those little break through moments. I think you will really dig the next two lessons. I filmed 2 today and will be editing soon for release next week. You can add in whatever specialist techniques you like, slides, bends, double stops, slurs! This lesson was just an introduction; a concept. You've done the best thing; learn it and then go off and have fun experimenting.

the target note is a cool system if you play jazz or over chord like pop or ballad music but if you are playing over a riff you don't have any chord, so you have to find the root notes over the key.

Great lesson. Interesting lesson and I like that you say many can still create great music even if then not as great improvisors as Steve Vai. There is hope for everyone 😀

Hey Joseph, thanks for this. I'm glad you picked out that line, it's so true. Everyone musician has something unique to offer. Some people won't feel comfortable ripping licks off the cough in a Guitar Store or maybe even jamming with friends. But you can still learn the the same concepts and put them to work however you feel comfortable.

The production on these videos is crazy good! The guitar stuff as awesome as it gets as always. Ross Campbell and Sped Spedding would rule the guitar space just like Marty did all these years for us, when we were kids and teenagers \m/

I know how to play Major and minor pentatonic. I know to play Dorian, Aolian, Mixolidian, and Major scales. I know how to play lead that are part of popular songs.......But When I try to play my own leads they are mechanical and boring. I knew about hitting target notes but I didn't know how to fit them in, UNTIL NOW!!!!!!!!!!! I am getting it! Thank you so much for the lesson.

So can I just use any notes in the scale and resolve on the root of chord to make the lick/phrase? Or do I emphasise all the chord notes in that chord and then resolve to the chords root?
@SpedSpedding3 жыл бұрын
That’s the basis of the first part of this series. As you get more confident you can pass through various chord tones, almost arpeggiating them. Parts 2&3 include the 3rd 5th and 7th.
@TheWidowMaker.3 жыл бұрын
@@SpedSpedding yeh I just finished watching pt 2/3 just to see where it was heading and I'm gonna stick to pt 1 for a while lol. But I wasn't sure if it mattered where I started, only where I resolved. I like your clear no bs content and I've subbed. +1
