I have had the 828U 12GA Aluminum with 28" barrels since 2019. I have ~3000 rounds through mine. I have shot sporting clay leagues and its my primary upland gun for pheasant hunting. I have loved it, yes it whips around, yes, its got recoil, however when you get used to it I don't notice those things at all anymore. Its nice to be able to swing fast and get on those birds that surprise you. With the use I have put it through I have had several mechanical issues. I have had a piece in my receiver break twice. Its a piece that rides right along the hinge point, Benelli has warrantied it both times no questions asked. The last problem I had was with the barrels in 2022, I had a rivell bulge in my upper barrel. Benelli wanted to claim I shot with an obstructed barrel (which I most certainly did not). I have never shot steel through any choke tighter than a modified and have never dropped or dug my barrels into the ground or snow while hunting that would have obstructed them. After some run around with Benelli tech support they ended up putting a used set of barrels on which aesthetically were in worse condition than the originals I had sent it in with when the rivell happened (not great), but I was happy to have my shotgun back never the less.

I've had my brushed nickel 20ga 26" O/U for 3 years now. I deactivated the auto safety with the supplied method to do so. I take it to the sporting clay range all summer so my upland hunting "should" be more successful. In all that time and likely nearing 1000 rounds it has always ejected properly and never once let me down. If only my shooting was as reliable. Great gun and I appreciate the light weight during long days in the field.

I just watched this video and remembered your review of the original 828U. You asked for comments on the 828U. I guess I should start with this - I have the 828U in 12 that I have put probably 10,000 rounds through it over the last 18 months and had very few issues. I had just picked one up used and you said that it "really had a wollop" for recoil. Without shooting the gun, I bought it because it isn't a bulky over /under. For lack of a better word, it is a Formula-1 Racer! It just looks sexy as hell. I had been shooting skeet with my friends, and I have the original Benelli M1 Super 90 Tactical...needless to say, not the best skeet gun, however I love the Benelli line. Enough of the memory lane...I have been shooting Skeet, occasionally Trap, and sporting clays. It does have recoil, but it isn't abusive. I have shot eight rounds of skeet several times and I have not become recoil conscious. I am not seeing any significant wear on the machined parts of the receiver or for that matter, any of the metal parts. I had one of the long machine screws inside the forearm work its way out, and it takes a specifically long Allen head screwdriver to replace it, and the washer was gone, so I had to replace it as well. Was easy enough to repair and I am back at it. My fiber optic sight was cracked and on the third shot during a round of sporting clays it came off, so I had to shoot without a front bead for 97 rounds. Love the gun. I have picked up after marker extended tubes and will not hesitate to take this gun out for upland birds.

I would love to see you do a review of the 828u sport. I own one and feel like it is one amazing shotgun. It is a clay smashing machine and once I shimmer it to fit me properly I felt much less muzzle jump to my face and recoil is very minimal. Something about a LM carlson choke that just throws excellent patterns with these barrels. I believe the sport version has much less felt recoil and has absolutely upped my game with this shotgun. Also I keep my ejectors cleaned out with compressed air and have had zero issues. As far as reliability I have had absolutely no issues with this gun. And it's the best trigger I have ever felt from a shotgun.

I've got a 32" 828u sport. Had just over 1 year, approx 3000 shells through it. Mainly sporting clays and sport trap. No issues except for delayed firing on Fiocchi shells. Virtually no felt recoil with all the balance weights in. Use comp n choke 3/8 in both or original 1/4 and 1/2 chokes. Shims are great to get the stock just right for yourself.

I have had 26" 828U lighter version about 3 years now. I shoot clays with same gun and i haven´t notice any issues after 2500 shots. I usually shoot about 100-150 shots at a time and recoil is not on issue. I´m using without auto safety, it´s easy to change that way.

The 12g 828U we have is the aluminum version with a 28” barrel. I also have a Caesar Guerini made 32” sporter. The 828U is for my wife. For her we use 26g, 980 fps shells for very little recoil. When I use it I use 1oz, 1170 fps shells with some recoil. When I shoot my CG I use 1-1/8 oz, 1200 fps shells with some recoil. The CG weighs about 2lb more than the 828U and functions better as a clay gun. Just some comments you were asking for.

I’ve had my 828u Aluminum receiver, 28” barrel. It’s my primary upland game shotgun…..although it’s too nice to be a “truck gun” that gets thrown around without care. You can deactivate the auto safety by removing the spring, as the safety has caught me a few times when I first started using it. I don’t shoot much skeet with it as it is light and I also tend to feel most of the felt recoil on my cheek. I have roughly around 1k rounds through it, have had no mechanical or other issues with it and in addition to being a pleasure to carry in the field all day, it is hands down the most beautiful O/U out there in my opinion.

I am new to trap/skeet shooting. I have been shooting rifles and pistols most of my life. Getting rid of rifle habits ( aiming , etc...) is very challenging - you'd have to erase your muscle memory. Purchased the 828U 2 months ago when I started shooting trap. I did 3 days ( 300 rounds each day ). My face was literally sore and swollen at the end of the 3rd day- this could also be a "fit" issue. I am still trying to understand Benelli's shim system to adjust the drop/cast. I disabled the auto safety - posted a link to a video earlier. I also added Carlson's extended chokes. The recoil on your shoulder is minimal- the issue is the face area.

About this time last year I bought a 828U. Reviews were generally not very promising and there was a few common issues reported with them. I knew the history of this particular example though, and being hardly ever used, was worth a try. I think I got about 400 shots into it before almost every noted issue came to light in some capacity (double discharge, rattling carbon rib, random stiff trigger pulls, barrels opening upon firing). I eventually sold it a few months later and bought a Silver Pigeon which has been great. The 828U looks great in my opinion, is very light for easy field days and is generally a cool quirky model. It just lacks the reliability/durability I expect in a gun. I currently miss the auto safety as my SP is a 'Sporting', but it can be arranged later on if I get the bits I need to convert it.

The shotgun finder is coming along great, but the "Intended use" is a bit too restrictive. For versatile shotguns that fit well into categories like "Hunting/Target" should show up in results within both hunting and target categories. As an experienced software engineer, I've learned the optimal approach is to begin initial filtering by least-restrictive criteria to most-restrictive. The initial filter categories could be simplified to 4 options---Any, Field/Hunting, Target, and Defense/Tactical. High-specificity filtering can be detrimental to user experience. For example, I'm a user looking for a hunting shotgun that hunts all kinds of game. To see turkey guns I have to select a different filter and look at a separate list. To see waterfowl guns I have to select a different filter to look at a separate list. Separate lists are more difficult to compare side-by-side. It would be great to see all hunting in a list then filter more specific criteria from there. As always another great video!
