In October, Santa Barbara celebrates with a Seafood Festival. It was the last time we went on a family trip with my parents. It was on my Dad's bucket list. I was able to score a urchin in a shell that was so fresh the spines were still moving after I finished eating it. They also offered cleaned, fresh urchin three shots for $10, I think! I stood next to their booth and watched thm clean the urchin so it was very fresh for my Dad.

First time I ever ate the crab butter and innards was a kayak crabbing class I took at Pacific City, Or. All the crab we caught (fishing right off our kayaks, not dropping pots and coming back) were put in a big boil and we gathered around with butter, lemon, and white wine. We wound up ignoring the first two because that crab needed nothing but a crisp white wine. Fresh from the brackish lower Salmon River just a couple hours ago was ambrosia. Yeah, they were the local Dungeness crabs.

Thanks for checking out Santa Barbara! I really like watching your videos and others like this because I’ve always been a picky eater due to autism related sensory issues, but I really really love the foods I do eat. I’ve been slowly branching out to other textures and flavors and channels like these are soo helpful. I love 4 eggs and Pizza and next time I go I’ll definitely have to try the pho. Maybe I’ll work up to going to one of the other restaurants soon ❤️

The first time I ever ate a whole crab at a fancy restaurant, I asked them if they cleaned the crabs out. The waiter was very nice and said, "Yes! Of course we do!" So I said, "Could you not?" lol He checked with the chef and it's not as rare of a question as you'd think! If you are buying crabs in the the US, just ask...best thing ever did lol

Mike, you can ask for the crab "dirty" so you have the innards of the crab in there. We go to that restaurant every time we are in Santa Barbara.

These types of crabs, like the king crabs, are not really in the crabs species, so the innards are not edible like in Blue and Dungeness crabs.

Ah, I live 1.5 hours away from SB, and I took my boyfriend to Shellfish to have him try oysters for the first time and he also loved the crab, too! Gotta try the scallop ceviche there next time! The portions are amazing! Thank you again for another awesome video!

I visited my hometown of Palos Verdes, a bit south of Santa Barbara over the holidays and got down to the tide pools and ate about 15 urchins. Somebody has to. Its only good if its that fresh. Nice to see that restaurant in this video serving it up like that, as it should be.

Ask them what they do with the crab tomalley and if they say they throw it away, ask them if they will give them to you lol They can save it for you. That's a shame u didn't get any of the tomalley! Since you paid for the whole crab. I enjoy watching u while I eat, always makes eating more pleasurable. Please tell Christine tyvm for giving us her opinion and allowing us to see her food! I actually work on a boat that catches box crab out of SB! We'll soon be selling it at the Saturday market, along with other local fishermen/women and their fresh catch! Every Saturday morning at the pier by Brophys restaurant

Santa Barbra Shellfish is such a great spot! Their crab bisque is addicting. Another good mention is Malibu Seafood Market. Can’t go wrong with their Fried Scallop Sandwich and Manhattan Clam Chowder.

Love Psych! I went to Santa Barbara a few years back because of Psych too. But I kept having to tell myself it was filmed in Vancouver haha. So then I went to Vancouver about a year after that. Either way, love fresh seafood in Santa Barbara!

We have spider crabs along the Atlantic coast of the UK. The body shape looks similar, but the legs are longer and thinner (even more spider-like). The colour is more orange, before and after cooking. Closer to lobster in tastes, so probably similar to that one. Not really that popular, mainly due to the spider connection, so they are being rebranded Cornish King Crab here in Cornwall. You can just pick them up off the beach if you know where to look.

Love Santa Barbara, I live about a hour south of there and visit frequently. You'll definitely have to go back again, SO many great restaurants, excellent Mexican food! Also visit Montecito next door and stay at the Rosewood Miramar!

Great food. If you ever wanted to try the best fried clams you have to go for “whole belly” fried clams in MA. They are delicious and not anywhere near the rubbery massed produced clam strip.

If you’re ever passing through Atlanta, we have a place called Nori Nori it is a Japanese buffet and has been around for many many years I would highly recommend it for you I think you’d really enjoy it

You should totally try Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach, Ca for clam chowder and there are lots of other little places to eat. Some of the best oysters I’ve eaten are at the crab shack in Pismo as well. There’s Morro Bay about 15 minutes away from pismo as well
