She talked about the meaning of the song in the Apple interview. She immagined herself in a cabin, during a winter storm that signifies her anxieties. And she's standing on the balcony, unable to react to this cold. The drivers of this anxiety and pain are mainly 3: july (the pain of being canceled during the kanye drama), November (the 2020 US elections) and December (even after the kanye drama was settled and the election won, she still felt disconnected because of the pandemic. Everything was still uncertain). So then Bon Iver's part is supposed to signify her anxiety chaotically speaking in her mind. Mainly the desire to escape and feel safe and calm for just a minute. And then finally she feels like there's hope. And she returns to the warm cabin room, leaving the cold balcony and her anxieties behind. It's such a wonderfully written "pandemic song", that without actually saying it, makes you FEEL the disconnect and uncertainty about the future. And the hopefull ending just closes this album perfectly. Loved your reaction to this whole album.

The last chorus of this song is literally the last scene of Willow MV!! "I was catching my breathe, floors of the cabin creaking under my step and I couldn't be sure, I had a feeling so peculiar this pain wouldn't be for evermore" It is literally the scene from the Willow MV where Taylor is coming out of the piano catching her breath and the floors of the cabin that she came back to was creaking under her step and when she saw her, she couldn't be sure at first.. but when she finally held his hand, she knew that this pain wouldn't be for evermore!
@dulapeep4204 жыл бұрын
Even the beginning of the song reminds me of willow. The forest from willow's mv is the same as cardigan's and she sings, "I replay my footsteps on each stepping stone, trying to find the one where I went wrong". In the willow mv, she traces her steps back and finally ends up existing in a space where she's able to find her happiness. She reaches her cabin safely the second time because she knew which way to go after making mistakes in the cardigan mv. Taylor is a genius!

When you said that Taylor's songs can be interpreted in many ways, i thought that maybe that is the reason why people say her songs are relatable. I mean imagine how many ways people live or what circumstances we've been through yet we relate to the same song. Edit: this is one of your best reactions. Happy new year!

Her music you can interpret in so many ways yet the lyrics aren’t shallow or generic to fit the meaning. They’re deep but somehow we can all connect! What an artist
@mariaespejo28514 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Some people think the song should be deep to the point that you can't even understand it for it to be considered as "great music". This woman has mastered how to balance this and I think that's hard to do even for an experienced artist. She's brilliannt.

Catching my breath is what you do after making an effort (like running) so for me this means she took a moment for introspection, for self analysis. Catching my death is an expression when you expose yourself to something that harms you, like going outside in the winter without a coat - here it would have a double meaning of the winter scene but also maybe choices in her past that ended up hurting her. But I love your interpretation as well. Seeing you both smile to certain portions of the song and lyrics just gives me such joy. Happy New Year! I appreciate you guys, please keep the Taylor content coming! 🎉

Always love your interpretations... it’s good to see other perspectives. It’s like when she was doing the studio sessions and spoke on “this is me trying” and how she interpreted it vs how Aaron interpreted it as being about someone with profound issues and asking their partner to hear them out and be there for them. Often times it’s so isolating and limiting to hear her perspective alone on her music but when others voice what it could mean or what it meant to them... that to me is when I can see it through my own eyes and my own life so thanks for that.

There are dozens of "reactions" to this song on KZbin, but this is one of the better ones because you two are not all caught up in yourselves. Rather than the over-emoting of many of the reactors, you are both considerate and thoughtful, probing for possible meanings. I would call your response honest, rather than the show-boating drivel you see on so many channels. Well done.

I love your discussion at the end. Audio Art and visual without the visuals. I never thought about her songs in this way but you're right. There are so many ways to interpret her songs.
