I love how you pay attention to the lyrics, that is everything to the album. You guys are the best favorite reaction video I have seen paying genuine attention to the lyrics. Betty cardigan and august are a love triangle story written from each character's point of view. my tears richocet was about how much it hurt her to have her songs "Stolen" hence the lyric "stolen lullaby" and mad woman was about the music industry who labels her as this crazy woman, and kanye west and kardashian family (women like hunting witches too, doing your dirtiest work for you,its obvious wanting me dead brought you two together). Invisible string and peace is obv about her fiance, the 1 was about a young love that you remember for ever. ephipany made me cried especially in light of our current situation where medical workers are heroes like how soldiers were in the past. exile was about two lovers who cant understand each other and went separate ways. hoax, ppl were theoritising about her relationship with the music industry.

EPIPHANY: starts about her grandfather (WWII vet) (the beaches, bleeding out, some things you don't speak about) them being heroes... Second half: COVID heroes (heath care) (holding hands through plastic, breathe in - breathe out like a ventilator) she's basically praising different types of heroes, and reflecting the pain they go through while still doing their jobs (someone's mother, daughter, med school doesn't teach you) imo Whenever I hear this song I picture soldiers and nurses/doctors working the Covid front lines. I've heard from so many doctors/nurses that this is their life nowadays... It's a different type of battlefield. At the end it sounds like heart monitor and bombs subtly...

Here’s the thing. She is so incredibly talented. and no one can deny that she’s talented. You may not like her music but you can’t say that she’s not talented. I don’t like snowboarding, but I will admit that anyone who does is talented. And you’re completely right, her music always leaves you thinking. It leaves you in awe and I always think of the story behind all these songs. The process, the moment she knew she had to write a song about a specific experience she had. The moment she finished writing the album. I think those are special moments leading up to the release of yet another amazing album. I don’t know how anyone could not love her 😩

What's interesting is that the songs in this album is a mix of concepts ans perspectives. That's why in betty she writes in the perspective of a teenage boy. Also if we go with the definition of folklore, it turns out that she wrote these songs about stories that were told to her and now she sings about them. Stories that were passed on by mouth as what the definition of folklore is.

I feel like Epiphany is about COVID, and the connections made between war and fighting the virus. Doctors and nurses are on the "front lines", like soldiers are in war. I've seen reaction videos not really get it, or listen to the lyrics closely but it looks like it really resonated with you guys!

Taylor said that there are 3 songs that are connected in the album. The songs are from the perspective of the people in a romantic triangle. Cardigan is from the perspective of Betty. Betty is from the perspective of James. And August is from the perspective of the woman James cheated on Betty with.

So just as an insight into the album. The whole album is about different themes explored through the perspectives of three people in a love triangle. So there's Rebekah harkness also known as betty who's perspective is explored in cardigan and is basically is kinda the protagonist of this story. She has a boyfriend who cheats on her with another girl, who's name we don't know. The guy is James. So the person with whom James cheated with-their perspective is explored in the song august and later James's perspective in the song betty. The song great American dynasty gives an insight into how the public saw James and Betty's relationship. The reason these people, especially Rebekah is chosen as the people whose story Taylor is exploring is because Rebekah harkness actually lived in the same house/mansion Taylor bought in Rhode Island (in 2013). So the album is folklore because these stories about these people have been passed down through facts, gossips and talks in the town and she is passing it to us through these songs.
