Awesome video Taylor! As far as camera settings ISO, SS, F stop… can you provide some insight as to what you used for these shots?
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Жыл бұрын
For sure! My camera's native ISO is 400 so I try to stick to that. But a lot of the time I end up at 800 for interiors. Shutter speed is always 2x the frame rate I'm shooting at so usually I do 30fps and 1/60ss (slowed down to 80% on a 24fps timeline). F Stop.. Usually 2.8-4 for interiors depending on brightness on the wide angle shots and 1.8 for detail shots. But those won't always work depending on how bright the specific room is so to adjust I change the ISO higher for darker rooms or add ND for super bright rooms to make sure the histogram looks good for every shot - typically having an arc in the center or a little bit to the right of the center without too much being overexposed.

@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Biggest things are: shoot in LOG if you have the option, or HLG or Neutral Picture Profile with contrast turned down if you don’t have LOG. That will get you better dynamic range and smoother highlight roll off. Then use your histogram to make sure bright spots aren’t blown out, or they are at least close enough to look good. Lots of trial and error to get the hang of it though!
@juanpablolacayo256
@juanpablolacayo256 2 жыл бұрын
@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo thanks for the reply! I am using a Canon 90D, I am not sure if this camera has LOG or if it can be added to it. What do you think about shooting a little more underexposed and then bring the highlight up when editing? Is that a good approach or should I just go with proper exposure?
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo
@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo 2 жыл бұрын
@@juanpablolacayo256 I don't think the 90D it has LOG. So I'd recommend shooting in Neutral Picture Profile with your contrast all the way negative (gives it more of a flat image instead of permanently having contrast baked in) and turn detail + saturation down a little bit so it will look a little smoother. You can add that back in the edit if you want to but its good to have more flexibility when you need it. For exposure (since you don't have tons of dynamic range) I would just prioritize whatever is the main focus of the shot. Ex: For interiors just worry about the things inside being exposed good instead of worrying about the windows. Might as well get one thing as good as possible instead of both in between. It can also help if you tilt the blinds up a little bit to keep some more texture and the window won't look quite as blown out. One tip if window views are really important, get your normal shots (exposed for interiors) and then get some extra shots focused on the view only (expose for the view on those shots) so you can still include that in the edit. Those shots come out cool and are effective anyways so it should work fine for now :)

@@tonynicolaci3244 Do you have a Canon Mirrorless ? I would bet the RF 50mm 1.8 is pretty great for this stuff! I have been trying out the RF 16mm 2.8 and the focusing on it is great, so I would imagine the 50 would be pretty similar performance or better since it's 1.8 vs 2.8. You can probably rent one to try it out on Lensrentals.com (link below) to try it out before committing! The main down sides I've noticed from the 16 is the distortion and compared to my 16-35 2.8 III it has more chromatic abberation. With the 50 I'd imagine distortion isn't really an issue - and my 50 L gets some noticeable aberration anyways so most might notice any difference at f1.8 or f2 for your details >>> Rental Link - www.lensrentals.com/rent/canon-rf-50mm-f1.8-stm This Lens amzn.to/3DZJ9UW

Typically I'll use 24 or 30 fps for wide shots (1/50 or 1/60 shutter speed) and 60fps for details (1/120 shutter speed). Sometimes 60fps for bright rooms or exterior wide shots too, because why not, and it looks best with more light.
