I think it's appalling that I keep hearing "after calibration" When you purchase a new TV, I don't expect to have to pay someone (if you can FIND someone) to correctly calibrate your TV. It should be correct out of the box. I appreciate some people like big red skin tone and sky so blue it hurts your eyes, but each TV should come with a defeat button that presents the picture "calibrated"

Tell me you are TV casual without telling you are a TV casual. A PROPER calibration requires the TV to be calibrated to YOUR TV space, so that is the lighting from the ceiling lights, any sunlight and the various shadows around your space. A TV cannot be properly calibrated out of the box, there's the generic picture settings where manufacturers attempt to but for it to be done properly and right, you need a technician to come to your house. Know what you're saying before making such an arrogant comment

According to miniled research articles, if you have a super high native contrast, you can have the same perceivable contrast with much less dimming zones compared to another tv with low native contrast but very high amount of dimming zones. Hence why this TCL may seemingly have a better local dimming algorithm compared to the other Samsung and Sony tvs owing to the high native contrast- and remember, this TCL miniled is only entry level with around 300 local dimming zones. The flagship C93 has over 1000 local dimming zones on a 65 inch.

True, but the contrast itself doesn't matter as much as black levels. Usually these two go hand in hand, but nowadays you can get an IPS QD panel with quite poor black levels but with relatively high contrast ratio because of the powerful peak brightness and FALD system. VA panels have natural ability to block much more light as opposed to other LCD panel types, which results in less blooming.

Even if it doesn't surpass your current TV or your next choice of purchase, it is pushing lower end picture quality forward for everyone. Design of the TV is very finished and clean looking, and the sound will definately be worthy of choosing it over another comparable product. VA is still excellent and there is specific usage case of LED technology such as retro gaming. Hopefully they iron out those chipset issue in FW update pushing it as far as it will go.

As someone who plays a lot of old games I wish it was easier to get a straight answer about new TV's function with older inputs and devices. I don't really see people trying something line an Nintendo console on it for example - which would be a good baseline for a lot of potential problems. If I am playing a lot of old stuff if new TV's don't play nice with it it is something I really do need to know - but to often there is this assumption that "gamers" just play Call of Duty "current year" and that is it - which isn't very helpful when you are playing things from the 1980's and 1990's very often like I do. let alone modern indy titles that behave in a lot of similar ways to Classic and vintage gaming too.

Tried to use an XBOX 360 and also XBOX / PS3 on the LG CX and the result was less than desirable, however on the 3440x1440 MX34VQ it looked amazing especially with sharpness and edge enhancement cranked. Considering the PPI and sub 1080p scaling this is still a valid comparison nor would I commonly suggest ULTRAWIDE unless it was desirable, but it both featured a VA panel and worked excellent on older stuff just for reference. Guess to truly use the LG CX or onward for comparative console and have it properly enhance your experience it is going to require a FRAMEMIESTER or similar upscaler on the front end thus utilize Super Resolution and other various AI GEN 3 processing capability to it's fullest potential. See, never hear mentioned require PC Mode for lowest response time in any situation due to disabled feature speed optimization. Would put the MX34VQ a solid notch above the ALIENWARE QD-OLED ULTRAWIDE for this reason, which has very little customization available. Difference is quite staggering and could make or break experience. Even decade old television produce consistent result

@@lfesky Yes I have heard some strange reports about OLED's and older Machines - maybe I need to pester Digital Foundary about this issue - I think Black Frames helps with the smearing issues a bit. But I recall some early LCD's didn't play nicely with older machines either. such as resulting in a very dark image for example. I know some people have said they got good results using upscaling in TV mode rather than game mode on some sets.

Rtings does a good job at doing "Flicker Free" analysis and they tell the range of what you should set your TV's backlight or brightness so you can benefit from it. I used to have a Vizio M series 2016 or 17 and it would KILL my eyes when I watched anything with HDR. I did get a TCL R635 and it's almost flicker free, I am able to watch HDR content all day without issues, even in the dark.

@@stevenvanroosmalen For an example oled tv's emit light whole time (and some lcd tv's also) and so movement in screen looks solid but (bit) blurry.. some lcd tv's pulse backlight 120hz to improve clarity but that creates IMO worse image as it creates 2 light pulse per 1 frame in 60fps game. @stevenvanroosmalen
@stevenvanroosmalen 2 жыл бұрын
@@WhatTheHex thank you so much for this response. Do you have the link to the ratings test. The reason I ask you this, is because I experienced some difficulty buying a new tv for myself in the last two years. I experience some sort of ghosting or trouble with movement and I am very sensitive towards this. I have written a reply on another vid about this, which I will copy down here (edited to a smaller portion). I’m wondering, might this be my problem as well? My other post: In the last two years I have bought and returned three brand new TV’s. Two Samsung QLED’s and one LG OLED. While the latter one wasn’t a fit in my bright living room, I’ve found that all three televisions didn’t handle motion the way my current television does. Now I am in distress, since I don’t think any modern 4K 120Hz HDR television will flow as natural on my television as I am used to. My current television is a Sony KD - 49XD7004. The TV is far from perfect. Although it supports 4K, it doesn’t support 60fps, nor does it have a great HDR setting. On my PS5, I’ve turned off the HDR function so I can enjoy the vibrant colors of my games more. While motion on this TV isn’t perfect either - subtitles tent leave some pixels behind when the shot pans - the issues I experienced with newer TV’s is far worse. The LG OLED55C9PLA, the Samsung Neo 50QN92A and the Samsung QE55Q90T have all been in my possession for a couple of days in the last two years. I bought these TV’s because I would love to have better HDR, better picture quality, HDMI2.1 and 120 Hz for 60fps. And while they delivered on those feautures, I also got motion issues which most forums and sites describe as judder and stutter issues. Allow me to explain what I’m experiencing on the screen (which varies from TV to TV, but I will generalize here): While playing Assassins Creed Valhalla on my PS5 I can’t believe how sharp the three promising televisions are. However, when I move the camera around my character, my character’s outline gets a sort of extra aura around it. As if there are some pixel distortions aroud Eivor (the character). Playing with the judder and stutter settings will fix this tremendously. However, now the background is showing distortions when I move the camera around. The effects are so heavy for me, that I’m getting a headache. One thing that shows the motion issues well is when I open the map of the game. While scrolling through the map, all the lines on the map are vibrating and thus become blurry. Only when I stop scrolling, the lines and places are sharp. I can’t read any placenames when scrolling through the map. I experience the same problems with Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Both the map issue and the motion-issue with the camera are present when playing this game on one of the three former mentioned TV’s. However, this game has a bigger issue where skyscraper buildings are cut in two when moving the camera or swinging trough the city. If I didn’t have my Sony TV, I would’ve blamed the game for such a bug (which reminds me of screen tearing). These motion issues are completely gone when playing the games on 60fps. Then everything is smooth and works great! So now I’m thinking, this is a framerate issue. Are these new televisions incapable of creating flawless motion of anything less than 60fps? Since Assassins Creed Valhalla and Spider-Man: Miles Morales are the only two games I have which can be set on 60fps (and I value the fidelity mode more than the performance mode), I’m somewhat screwed, aren’t I? Watching Netflix or a blu-ray gives me other unpleasant results. The credits of each film have the same effect as the maps of the games. The credits - when scrolling - are not clear at all. They are - in fact - unreadable. Blurry and vibrating on the screen. I can adjust this somewhat with the Judder and Stutter settings, but than other things in the film start to become an issue for me. When the camera is panning in a shot, I can experience something akin to framedrop. The pan is not smooth at all. Again, playing with these settings I can adjust it so that the framedrop drops, but the motion is all blurry again. I once compared my Sony to a Samsung side by side and I am so surprised that my older Sony model is displaying motion in these shots way more accurately. So 25fps is a problem for these TV’s as well? Which is a problem for me, because I am a major cinephile. And admittedly, I’m lazy as well. I prefer one setting for all my TV uses. I don’t want to jump into settings for watching a film and then adjust them again for playing a game. This doesn’t work for me at all. Ofcourse I’ve tested with others games, other consoles and multiple film platforms as well. But the conclusion is always the same. I need perfect motion and these modern televisions don’t handle motion very well.

The latest TV where it was pretty prominent was Samsung's Q70R (I think it was a ported sub) few years ago, but I think some other Samsungs since then might have also had subs built in. But Euro Philips TVs have had different speaker arrangements, including built in subwoofers, for years now. My dad's old FullHD Philips from around 2012 also had a subwoofer, with the woofer being aimed towards the back wall (I think it was also bass radiator type of design instead of acoustic suspension or ported design) so that it would have some room gain. Funny last example, but my old 2007 Fujitsu Siemens laptop also advertised that it had a built in subwoofer, which was good enough to make the sound feel decently full, but of course it didn't hit the very low notes. The speakers were pretty serviceable thanks to it, and it actually made the keyboard keys vibrate and make buzzing noises a little bit. Not bad if you were using the keyboard and had hands on the machine because then the casis wouldnt vibrate the keys, but not pleasant if you were watching or listening something on it without putting pressure on the casis.

wonder what kind of CSOT (TCL) panels Sony is buying that are so crappy for X95K. They are literally BLUE in native contrast exacerbating the blooming making it blueish and more visible. Imagine they instead had 7500:1 native contrast panels. I know wide viewing angle filters reduce native contrast, but does it also make them blue? I rather have a MiniLED without that wide angle and 7500:1 instead and blooming would be less obtrusive.

Sony has been screwing up year after year since the X900F. If it weren't for the C835 still being incapable of handling 4K 120hz at full 4:4:4 chroma, I would have entirely not consider the Sonys but unfortunately this is still the case. X90K seems to still be a viable option despite the blooming issues. If Samsung further reduces the price of their QN95B I guess that will be the buy if we can look past their worse screen uniformity quality control.

While waiting for the C935 review I had a change to see the 75" C935 in store yesterday. Was pretty impressed. Far from ideal test conditions but managed to get the C935 out of "store demo vivid mode" and see how it performs in SDR & HDR (Movie mode). Did not see any blooming in actual content even on subtitles (at in in-store lighting conditions). If I look close to the screen at an extreme off-angle then yes but not in real content and from actual viewing distance and angle. Upscaling was good but not excellent (same with all source processing). I've seen Sony upscale poor quality sources to a very high degree. Not so much on the TCL. Feeding the TCL a good quality source is a must. Viewing angles very quite good for a VA. Not too much gamma shift and mostly just color desaturation. The screen is glossy but the actual panel appears to suspended behind the screen about a few millimeters giving a sort of windowed feel to it. I don't know how I feel about that. Most likely something that I would get used to very quickly. HDR looked good with proper content. Meaning: same as with C83 the dynamic tone mapping over brightened everything and wasn't usable at all. Leaving it of however made some content way too dim and crushed shadow detail (judging by YT HDR content here so most likely not an issue from a good source). I'm very sensitive to PWM and stutter and I'm happy to say that motion on low frame rate content (24fps) was good and gave me no eye fatigue, headaches or other issues. De-judder setting had a good degree of granularity to hit a sweet spot between stutter and SOE. Didn't test any gaming but 60fps content from YT looked very good (at least no smearing). Ask me anything..

Worse is that enabling local dimming high will cause EXTREME coil whine every time screen goes completely black or when 90~ of the screen is black. LED's have more componenets, namely the LED's, and the miniled's, while being smaller, contain a LOT more of them, 1,000 led's in mine, which means the screen can get a lot brighter, but that also means a lot more heat, requiring more cooling. Samsung does have 7,000:1 Native Contrast on the Q70 series, but they won't pair those panels with a good FALD system because they think the "Viewing Angle" metric is more important than contrast on a high end TV (and from a marketing perspective I can't blame them, but as a Gamer is means that Samsung is no longer #1).

I currently own a LG B7 OLED that has seen some battle, and some small but noticable burn ins, and I'm thinking on replacing it, and I was thinking about this TV, because I've been told the 825 version was quite up there against OLED tvs. Should I get this TV so I get something better than what I own now or should I look elsewhere, without breaking the bank?
