I am no Vincent Teoh, but as an owner of the Bravia 9, there is not much today, if any Mini LED that can beat the Bravia 9. Sure Samsung top tier TVs might boast more saturated color, but in terms of perfect balance of everything the Bravia 9 is a near perfection.
@whitecrowuk5758 күн бұрын
Hmm isn’t perfect with luminosity dropping low when black background present and isn’t perfect with angles - 30-40 degrees and you see color shift/loss. As all rounder perhaps is a mini led to beat. But some competition is getting very close and pricing is very enticing. With mini led I would consider bigger sizes that oled can’t provide - like 98”. So glad you made this video, I tried 5 diffrent 55 inch TV's for computer use (good ones, two from Samsung, TCL, LG, and HiSense.) Local dimming seems to cause more harm than good when I edit textures. The white point on all of them (except the oled) goes all over the place with the dimming, and creates shadows on large white objects. I'm a hobbiest so value plays a big part in picking a display. I have a 7 year old 50 inch Qled, and it's still "the right" display for my needs even without the vvr and local dimming. The s95c almost stayed in the house, but the HDMI issues, and then longevity on top of it made it a no go.

@@StevoHDA Here's the kicker, you cannot defeat black crush by calibrating the display. When a Mini LED is crushing black levels it does so dynamically based on how much intensity is coming from any given area of the screen, if you try to raise brightness for dark content it blows out everything at normal brightness. Totally agree we should have a toggle between "prioritize highlights" and "minimize haloing".

I just bought a TCL 75C855 and a Samsung 75QN90D, had them side by side, and even though my Soundbar is a Q990D and I'd benefit from Q Symphony, I've decided to return the samsung, the local dimming around small objects on the TCL is far superior, but really the cherry on top is the worse panel in the Samsung, I come from a 65" QN90B and the color gamut on the 90B is better than the 90D. And man it does make a way BIGGER difference than I'd have ever thought, I could have lived with more blooming around small objects in exchange for Q Symphony, but the colors on the panel are just not up to the challenge. When side by side, the TCL makes the samsung colors look washed out, it still looks great, but for the price I paid, I expected a straight up upgrade compared to my QN90B on every regard, only to find a downgraded picture. It looks like samsung is trying to ask for 8k display prices if we want their best picture. Specially since the QN95D is not readily available. The price difference is even steeper when comparing the 85" models, and I'm even thinking of returning the TCL and getting an 85" that's just how much I liked the picture when the black level is properly dialed down. Edit: Of course the B9 is better but it is completely outside of my budget, it costs like 2x what samsung is asking for the QN90D where I live.

I honestly do not believe the input lag test is correct with the local dimming off vs on and is probably an artifact of the dimming zones trying to keep up with the blinking test box. I use the little brother of this TV the 50" C805 as a computer gaming monitor with HDR and game mode turned on always. I have dicked around with the local dimming setting and I detect no other change in the picture other than the changing contrast. If there is a change in actual processing of the image, an increased delay or such, the screen should blink black, just like turning game or pc mode on or off, before resuming but no such thing occurs when changing local dimming off to on. Or if the screen doesn't blink then there should at least be a slight hitch or microstutter as the speed of the arriving image resyncs between the slower and faster modes. It should be visually apparent in the famous Test UFO monitor. test.
@MaaZeus8 күн бұрын
It just occured to me that another test where a sudden change in lag should be apparent is the Blur Busters Frame Skipping test. In the moment of the local dimming setting change and suddenly going from bigger lag to smaller lag should result in frames being skipped IF there is actually any change in input lag and the screen doesn't just blink for resync. I have to give this a go when I get home from work.
@MaaZeus5 күн бұрын
A follow up, I did try the frame skipping test but unfortunately the TV has an annoying habbit of constantly warning you about energy efficiency with a popup, which makes the test impossible. I would need to switch the local dimming modes back and forth to see if any frames are skipped but because the popup comes every time you change the local dimming setting it makes it very hard to visually notice any potential changes. Damnit TCL, all other TVs that I have seen only show the warning once when finetuning some setting, we do not need to see it every time you change directions with the slider. 🤦♂️

I have trouble understanding why contrast is measured this way in TVs. I feel like the word contrast is misused. If black is zero nits in OLED and it is done by dividing the brightest nit by zero and getting infinity then that means a screen with 1 (one) nit of brightness has the same contrast as a screen with 1,000,000 nits of brightness. But contrast should refer to the difference between two things (two numbers). In other words, high brightness mini-LEDs should be considered to have higher contrast than OLEDs (even MLA), even if their darkest black level is higher. The difference in number comparisons (contrast between darkness and light) is higher in the mini-LED.
@johnb49058 күн бұрын
If you had a LCD next to an OLED you’ll have no trouble understanding the difference in contrast between the two. Even how the measurements are done with patterns is misleading with LCDs. Hint, understand how local dimming works in practice.

I’ve had two of these now and they have both looked fantastic for the first month and then screen deteriorates terribly. It loses its contrast blacks become mottled and look similar to a led tv that is many many years old. When the tv is new and under 30 hours of use it’s great. But I suggest that tv reviewers only review this tv after 30 hours of use. I would not recommend this tv

TCL98C855K Vs LGOLED77G4?
@bradhumphrey52239 күн бұрын
Something he doesn't check but very important to many installs = It has been documented that some newer TCL TVs do NOT have discrete input or power control. This is 100% unacceptable by any TV manufacture in this day & age. If you only have 1 source hooked to the TV and therefor don't really require a control system (or universal remote) , then you might not care. But I would argue you still shouldn't support a manufacture that is that lazy and incompetent. And it may come to haunt you in the future, should you desire a more complex setup.

Lol, MiniLED is the display technology

I doubt when it comes to our eyes safety Mini led with incresed led levels are not good for our eyes because they act like a big flashlight blasting eyes. Oled is the safest technology available nowadays

I thought he was going to review B9, instead it was an unknown TV. Everyone was looking forward to seeing B9 reviewed here.

It’s simple. It’s overrated and over priced. Why buy the b9 when you could literally get oled for cheaper, or get a bigger tv like this or even a Samsung for cheaper as well. People say XR processor nonsense. But forget to mention how it’s literally like a 20nm chip that’s passively cooled and the TVs only have 4gb of garbage ddr3 ram. These tv chips from ALL manufacturers are just garbage but for some reason people praise Sonys processing. And not once have I ever noticed a difference between my a80j and my s95b with processing. What IS noticeable is the better picture my s95b provides over my 80j. And I got it for $400 less as well. I don’t see how anyone can buy Sonys these days when they are objectively worse from a hardware standpoint than their competition. Whatever tv you have put the motion processing on like 2/10 and then they all look the same.

@@chasecrappel9480 sony literally has way better picture than any other tv on the market, what do you need a smaller nm chip for on a tv? oled =/= better all times? out of all the OS ive tried on tv's sonys run the smoothest, they have the best upscaling, best handling at motion? not sure if youre just trying to ragebait

@daylight4607 I agree, I love my Sony Bravia B9 75 inch. I'm coming from LG oled, and I'm done with oled.
