For the Dutch language, there are two categories: Algemeen Beschaafd Nederlands ("General Civilized Dutch") and Dialects. Dialects can differ from region to region, most of them are very close to ABN, some are so different that Dutch people from other parts can't understand it. Those stones are historical artifacts, they date back 5000 to 5500 years (maybe longer) and were build by using glacial rocks that ended up in the region some 150.000 years ago, they can be found in more places, Norther Europe and up to Denmark too i believe. (Hunebedden, or "Huns beds/Dolmen") There are several theories around them, they're burial mounts for kings or druids, or they are "mystical places" used by druids for ceremonies. It is also unclear who build these, and for that reason the meaning is unclear as well, much like other monolithic monuments left over from 5000 years ago, like Stonehenge, we have ideas what it was used for, but that's about it. (most likely it's that burial thing tho) Either way, it's pretty nice to have such old historical artifacts just laying around the landscape hehehe.

It differs what they say how much of the Netherland is below sea level/would flood; from about 1/3 to close to 50%. All I know and actually care about is that I live in Limburg NL and the ice can melt, it will give us a beach, this part of South Limburg is relative safe, however we also have floods and they can be severe. Excess rainfall caused flooding in Belgium, Germany, and NL in July 2021.

Those Hunebedden or Dolmen are not just rocks but pre historical burial mounds, build by the Funnelbeaker people from 3000 to 6000 BC. You can only find them in modern day province of Drenthe. Those rocks were gifts from Scandinavia during the ice age 150.000 years ago. 😀

I don't know what they are otherwise maybe makeshift prisons to hold murderers who knows. Just like the piraramids they were never meant to be tombs either. Just because you can not come up with a better guess does not mean it should be taught as the truth. The truth is we just don't know because wars and the destruction of the knowledge of the conquered have left us guessing. What schools teach is not the truth but the truth of the victors. People have the tendency to destroy or obscure that which does not fit their narrative. The only reason these dolmens are there is because the church could not destroy them in the dark ages.

Some Hunebedden might have had different purposes though. Old Hubedden throughout the Netherlands have been destroyed and their stones used to build castles and churches, in the swampy Drenthe no one wanted to build castles and thus the Hunebedden remained preserved. When I went to Germany in the 1970s with my husband, who had been in the British Army in Gottingen, I was told by his German friends that I was speaking Platt Deutsch, with the accent of the German /Belgian border area. .My father forgot how to speak English for the last t6 weeks of his life, and spoke Platt Deitsch instead. My own children spoke Platt Deitsch at home , but have now lost it as they were forced to learn French at school . My grand-children are going to learn Afrikaans at home in September, which according to your language expert , would be the easiest foreign language for English people to learn . The French do not even like us, so why learn their language ?

Funny thing is that purple and yellow carrots are actually also still sold in the netherlands at some of the bigger supermarket chains like Albert Heijn, so I'm surprised mist people don't know about their existence. The purple carrots are actually dark purple on the outside and fade into almost white towards the middle. It might have something to do with our agriculture ehh.. culture. We also have white asparagus for example that are a real delicacy here that is almost only grown locally I believe, and it is only available fresh when in season from march to June or something, and are quite different (way better imo) from green asparagus only because they are grown underground.

Flemish is officially part of the Dutch language but its a very specific dialect, with its own pronunciations and in Flanders they use quite a few different words, mostly using french-derived alternatives or doing the opposite where they introduced germanic words to better differentiate themselves from the French speaking Walloons. When we have Dutch language quizes or games on TV there will often be Flemish people competing and they often do well because their education is more strict on things like spelling and grammar.

It's similar with German too. It's really hard to understand a Bavarian guy for example and they even have translations for them when they show a snippet of an interview with a Bavarian. Also with German and Austrian German we kind of understand each other but it's sometimes challenging. We solved this problem by not only teaching the regional dialect but also the high - german or standard German. Is there such thing in the Netherlands too?

@@kisoschu Yes , we call it ABN algemeen beschaafd nederlands ( general civilized dutch ) Its based on the posh dialect used around Haarlem . Dutch Formula One driver and current World Champion Max Verstappen was born there. Carrots where originally white or purple or yellow. That the Dutch made them orange because of the King is a myth. Yes, we made them orange, but we did so long before the house of Orange was even a thing. Sprinkles: Not the sprinkles you find in other countries (which would make me go yuk as well).. these are real chocolate. @@emeraldsroses0524 Here in the Netherlands, and I presume globally, they keep track and graphs of children's height, and can estimate how tall they are most likely to get. According to that I would have been about 1.67m. For my sister and cousins they were close, for me not. I ended up 1.83m. I grew 30 cm in 6 months, I could notice myself grow, people could see me grow. Very weird sensation/awareness, going to school and coming back and things look a little smaller. We all grow, I have grown before the growth spurt, but this was next level. I also have/had bodily issues because of this, it is not rare to grow 30 cm, but it is rare to do this in 6 months. My bones grew faster than my muscles could adjust, twisting and bending my back for instance. I look straight like a line, but when I bend over, you can see the twisting curves in my spine. Add one leg being about 5 cm shorter, giving my hips a angle, my body compensated, I look straight as a rod, but I am bended and twisty. Also my seize in Limburg was big, in my teens, but the generations after me have risen to the same heights. So back to average height for me. I don't like the feeling people give me that are 2+ meters, I have to look up again like I had to do as a child. That height difference makes me feel like a child again. It has noting to do with them personally, and I can get used to it. But that is what that does to me, when I need to look up to someone, I'm no longer used to it. All sizes have their benefits, for me and my partner on average the things are not on our ideal size, counters, kitchens, etc. Living in Limburg, people used to be smaller on average. Also not dramatic but it would be healthier if things were 5-10 cm higher. However I can reach almost everything, without asking for help, or use of appliances. Mothers also often get left behind in size, very common. Maybe your daughter will be around your size? Boys often outgrow the mothers. In average the males are taller than females in the human species. Good things come in small packages is a saying. *Wie het kleine niet eert, is het grote niet weerd* (ouder/dialect NL voor waard). Or me getting kicks under my behind, while others got patted on the head and stayed small.
