Thank you! The lack of boundaries around emotional intimacy is inappropriate, and its alarming how many people are defending this behavior that groomers use all the time (not saying hes a groomer, but its undeniable that a groomer could use behavior like that to their advantage)

@@LadybeetleMaddox This EXACTLY!!! In high school I had a male teacher- nicest man ever. A student was going through a tough time, and in trying to be supportive and kind he blurred the lines, not for himself, but for the student. The student then acted inappropriately, and he ended up sacked with a 2 year teaching suspension. Point is teachers need to learn that these boundaries are in place to protect them too, because whilst you maybe sensible enough to know how far it can go, a child is not. Best to keep them firm.

The teacher was too busy trying to justify his intentions. Professionalism as a teacher is so important. Not only does it protect yourself but it protects the students. They are too young to understand what is inappropriate and need you to set those boundaries.

The fact that that teacher STILL doesn't understand the boundary he crossed and is calling those girls his "best friends" makes me think he really does NOT need to be working with children. It is so important to understand appropriate behavior in any profession that deals with kids.

I am Glad to hear that someone else finds the hair braiding situation HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE!! . As a teacher, if you do not make clear boundaries, those kids will walk all over them and you will be the one in trouble! It is also a professional atmosphere. He was at WORK!!! He probably used to do after school programs like boys and girls club where the atmosphere is more casual. Either way, he acts as if he is using school and those students to heal whatever he is lacking in his like. I am with Angel. He needed to reschedule his appointment. I’m also with Kevin if I saw my daughter online or even heard that she was taking a grown man’s hair down that was supposed to be an authority that I entrusted her to, I would be very upset.
@PepperJade93

I dont see why people dont understand that this was not okay. I grew up being taught that as a young lady, you stay out of a man's face. You dont get too familiar with them, you dont sit in their lap, you dont kee kee kee in their faces, and if a man is present, you put on some appropriate clothes. I had cool teachers in school who let us eat in class, use our phones during free time, walk around school during free time, sit where we wanted, and every now and then we had slacked conversation. However, it was always safe and never inappropriate, and the boundaries were respected. This gentleman got himself messed up, he was in control of this situation, and he cost himself his job. And yes, it's a double standard with this being girls, but it would have been inappropriate whether girls or boys. He was the adult. He should have known better. Yall spoke on this wonderfully.

Maybe because men/boys tend to be brainwashed to believe ANY sex with women is a badge of honor. I've seen comments under articles written about grown women teachers who engage in sex with boys where grown men say things like "she's hot," "homeboy is lucky," etc... Then you have rappers publicly bragging about getting grown women to perform sex on their young sons, to prevent their sons from becoming "gay."

I’m wondering if a lot of the TikTok group defending him are younger people who don’t have the life experience to understand why this is inappropriate. I showed my teenagers (14,15,17) the video and asked what they thought. They thought it was weird but not bad. And these are kids who are very quick to point out inappropriate behavior in movies etc. We had a long discussion about why this is inappropriate and I think it goes to show how dangerous blurring the lines can be.

I’m a Black male in my 10th year of teaching (5 in middle school and the last 5 in high school). I have NEVER deemed it okay to have students play in my hair, hug me too long, or anything that I would do with immediate family, friends, or loved ones. I have students who, to this day, call me to share their successes, ask for advice, and check on me and my family. I know their families and everything. I was able to build positive, lifelong relationships and mentorships with them without having them play in my head or do all the extra things. And that wasn’t the case with all students. I was able to decipher who needed those meaningful connections through conversations and without I did it w/o crossing boundaries, and I built those bridges by authentic, school-based activities. I hate that he lost his job, but you gotta be smarter than that…especially as a Black man. Regardless of whether the parents co-signed the action, it doesn’t justify the choice he made.

The world is so weird now. People don’t even know when something is obviously inappropriate. I hope he received the lesson from this experience but I don’t believe he has. 😔 This is inappropriate on multiple levels: -Time and place: The students should be learning and he is paid to teach. Services rendered: When he goes to his hair appointment, do you think it’s free? I’m sure he didn’t pay these young ladies for this work. Authority, bias and favoritism: Do you think he’s not going to take this into account when it’s time to give grades? Inappropriate touching: Students and teachers should not be touching at all. All touching is inappropriate touching. Filming minors in school: Filming multiple minors without their parents permission and posting to social media for millions to see. He said the parents signed waivers but what about the parents who didn’t sign? Are those kids not allowed to walk in certain parts of the classroom? That teacher is weird and should be punished! This situation is wild and I don’t think he understands the gravity, which puts in question whether he is a good teacher at all.

There are so many things that I was doing my parents didn't know about or investigate at that age because it wasn't in their face obvious. A lot of black parents are stressed and overworked. As long as the school or the police aren't involved, it was considered smooth sailing.

That's concerning to me because this is how kids get groomed by predators. It starts off as closeness in public settings then once trust is built it goes private. And parents just think it's innocent because the child is happy with the attention.

I agree that it's inappropriate, but didn't see it as alarming, especially with the parents signing off. But I used to braid hair, as a kid, in school and after school (only females), so I'm biased. They made great points, and they are correct in saying boundaries keep everyone safe. My biggest concern, was hearing his explanation and him call them his best friends. It also doesn't sit well with me that he asked them to do it vs them asking him. It's a minute detail, but that felt off to me.

@@nca4794 exactly! Instead of setting and enforcing boundaries, HE was the one blurring the lines as the adult / authority figure. It's the nuance that most people missed in the social media as spectacle conversations.

Do y’all really believe he had a hair appointment? I don’t. He knew exactly what he was doing. This is a calculating manipulative man. And by having the girls call him “bestie”, this could be intentional so if a parent asks “who are you talking to on the phone?” Their child may say “I’m talking to my bestie, or I’m going to my besties house, or I’m staying after school with my bestie. I believe this teacher was grooming these girls.

As someone whose middle school homeroom/math teacher has a whole Oxygen documentary, national news articles, hundreds of tiktoks and the subject of true crime podcasts... I didn't see the harm in the taking down of the teacher's hair. But he's said that it was more than once that he's had the young girls do this. I give him the hard side eye at that. Now my teacher... when I look back as an adult, especially after everything came out about him... He was "wildin" pun fully intend on the wildin.

Having professional boundaries is ok! He’d be no less of a good/relatable teacher by ensuring boundaries are set. This is like having a student/employee do one’s laundry. If that sounds absurd then so should this situation.

Tabitha being called a "witch" all comes down to wording. Saying she is clairvoyant automatically (in some "Christians" eyes) deemed her as a "witch". If she had said God gave her the gift of prophecy to be able to see things before they come to fruition, I believe no one would have batted an eye. People want to misinterpret/not understand due to their own personally biases or understandings of how they believe Hollywood works when in actuality not every black person who gets into higher places is under control by "evil media". This shows (to me) that these "Christians" believe that everyone's faith can be easily shaken because they themselves do not believe they would be strong enough against the true evil and temptation.

I agree. I once used the word empath and clairaudient and claircognizant.I learned that meant I was an intercessor and prophetic. That gave my gifts clarity and acceptance. But that is a choice. Honestly, with different people, I use different words

Children’s minds are too underdeveloped for an adult not to take responsibility. My husband is a 20 year Veteran School Teacher (and Minister), and he has NEVER failed to set proper (Godly) boundaries; while teaching both students & parents how to discern what’s not appropriate. This teacher was definitely INAPPROPRIATE, and posting it to social media for clout, is even WORSE.

Inappropriate, unprofessional, abuse of authority, crossing boundaries, sexist, misogynistic, etc. Why doesn't the teacher call the parents his best friends? Why didn't he ask the parents to take his braids out for him? He should ask the other teachers and the principal to take his braids out.

When I was in school, none of the teachers were in their 20s, especially in high school. The problem is the kids feel like they're their equal, and some of the teachers act like it, too. Also, the district ask if they can take picture or film the student, and we as the parent either say yes or no. Going live in the classroom is not a district thing and that shows a lack of professionalism.

Here's The Thing...the title is too hilarious because that teacher really got it twisted thinking he could get away with firstly getting students to do his hair and then to record and upload it on social media. And then wants to cry about getting fired. You're there to teach what is on the curriculum. Not to use children for child labor and putting them at risk for people to see them online...true or definitely true?

Most stylist will take down your braids for a fee as well. He didn’t have to ask them to take his hair down. Spend that extra $30-$40 to have the professionals take it down. That was dumb. Also, the video of him crying was so cringe. 😳

I believe touching someone's hair is a love language; a sign of affection. Think about someone touching your hair when it is transactional vs. non-transactional. As human beings, the hair on our head is an important part of us. So to let anyone get close to it.......geez.

The parents are so comfortable with him that they would probably be okay with them going to the teachers house unaccompanied or anywhere else. I'm sorry, this looks like grooming. And his response was very troubling with his voice. Angel is correct. They're learning to interact with an adult inappropriately.
