I think a lot of people are depressed because they are shown and taught their needs aren’t important and we carry that through everything. It makes us isolate and think we aren’t important. Keep doing it your own way and keep moving. It’s okay to take it slow n stop and it’s okay to enjoy chores sometimes. Figure out your own green area of life and keep it. I wish adults would have told me that when I was a kid

I think some people are just low on vitamin D. That’s one cause of depression.
@BlurryNova9 ай бұрын
Yeah, i rlly do wish going outside n shit always solves depression but in a lot of cases, it definitely takes much more than a walk and a nice snack to actually fix a depressive mindset. That isn't to say we should just give up, but boiling down and generalizing all depression as just a "sad mood" is an unintelligent thing to do. I have Bipolar(aka Manic depression). This is a serious disorder that can not be simply combated by walks, snacks, and hugs. They're still wanted and should be attained, but hugging me won't make the suicidal ideations disappear. Nor will it stave off the massive wave of fatigue, paranoid thoughts, or the inevitable manic episode that can occur not long after a massive low. I think we can encourage folks to seek the joy in the little things in life like enjoying the outdoors, surrounding yourself with loved ones, and enjoying our favorite things without painting this romanticized view that all that will magically cure you of your disorder. It'll only make it worse when those suffering enter the next depressive cycle when they think they fixed it the first time around. It's a never-ending battle, but it's one worth fighting for.
@thaloblue8 ай бұрын
It also depends on what other conditions you have. For example I have fibromyalgia and a couple other nerve pain disorders, walking is painful on the worst days. Going outside might just be an excruciating reminder that I used to be able to walk without trouble and now my body is permanently fucked up, which makes me crankier, angrier, and sadder. But some days it does work. I will say no exercise ever works for me. Like literally never. Mayyyyybe dance helps, but I cannot overexert or my body will punish me for it. You know what has a 100% success rate? Making friends, spending time with friends, and chatting with people. That’s my cheat code. But I never leave the house so my social circle is shrinking.

We are all different and need to have negative thoughts every so often when dealing with life or else our good positive times wouldn’t be as good. I have many “diagnoses” buy again it’s all variable depending on the day. Working on yourself and your relationships is the most important thing in life. I'm a licensed Social Worker and the idea of using self-care activities to help your mental health is part of mental health treatment. "Fake it til you make it" is a REAL thing. The treatment modality name that best tracks with what was described is called Behavioral Activation (BA) and it can be really helpful for people experiencing depression. It basically helps people to start doing the things they enjoy again (even if you don't really feel like doing it or, you have no motivation) and, by the time you notice you're enjoying the activity, your mental health has already caught up to the activities you're doing to where you already feel a bit better. Once you're there, you can continue to do the activities you enjoy and, possibly even go out and do more with friends/community, etc. It's a real thing though. Just thought I would mention this.

I am clinically diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety. While I haven't been as depressed as much anymore lately, I will still get insane depressive episodes that hit me like a truck and it goes on for a really long time. People may get warnings or whatever, but when my episodes hit it is instantly and happens quick. I do take medicine for my depression and anxiety, but it doesn't often work that well. I am not saying this to get sympathy from anyone, but because I am just explaining how I am/ how I function. In all seriousness doing the little things like going outside for even five minutes and forcing yourself to smile actually does help a little.

Ok, as someone who is going blind and needs rides to get places, the blind neighbors grinds my gears. I try NOT to ask for tons of rides, let alone every day. I can't fathom springing detours on people. I legit feel bad asking for help from people. I try to get most things delivered so I am only asking for rides to appointments and events. I get why he ghosted, because this guy would've guilt tripped him or kept bothering him anyway. I remember when I was at a school for the blind, one of the other guys there would always ask if I was going out so he could tag along and derail my plans because he was too lazy to actually learn how to use the transit system and get around himself (one of the reasons we were there in the first place). At first, I was fine with it. I was a quick study and had better vision than him, so I tried to help. Eventually, it was apparent that he was just lazy and entitled. He would sit near the door and listen for me checking out and call out "hey, can you take me to __?" One of these times I said I was going to meet some friends who had moved to that city while I was there and couldn't. He asked if he could join and I said no and he flipped out on me for leaving him hanging. I started silently checking out at the front desk to avoid him. After a week or so he asks me at lunch why I haven't been going out lately and one of the other dirtbags tells him I've been silently checking out to avoid him (because I confronted him for sexually harrasing people and shoving porn in people's faces). So entitled dude gets mad and cusses me out, leading to me calmly telling him to stop being entitled and actually learn what he was here to learn. He then swings at me but misses by a mile and twirls to the ground, tearing lmultiple knee ligaments, and tries to blame me for it. Some blind people are wild. Sorry for the long story.

Oh yeah, realizing that just telling myself "You are not, have no reason to, and can not afford to be sad and depressed, it's entirely within your control, so stop thinking like that" with enough conviction actually works in the short term, and usually long enough for me to find a better place in my life, was a moment of realization that was both enlightening and highly maddening. All these people telling me "you need X medicine, and pills, and therapy, and to quit working so hard, its fine to fail, its fine to not meet expectations, etc." Meanwhile that exact mentality of everything being out of my control and having zero true self-determination in both my own head and in life was the entire reason I was even depressive in the first place. Some people just have zero idea what they are talking about, and have no business giving mental health advice, and honestly, most of those people are either selling something, or are stuck in the exact mental state they're pretending they know how to conquer. A lot of mental health is willpower, and willpower comes from entirely YOU. Nobody is going to talk you into it, and no medicines going to magically give it to you. Medicine can help symptoms, but in the end it doesn't help fix the actual cause, and thats what leads to so many people being stuck in a spiral.

I didn't know what funko pops were, so I googled it. I've seen them in the background of youtube videos before, and I had previously made so little of them that it didn't even occur to me to wonder what they were called, and now I'm somewhat puzzled that anyone has particularly strong opinions about them one way or another.
