Heat is the biggest modern issue in computing. Think about CPU and GPU the main powerhouses of the computer, both have to have insane cooling solutions because the chips have been made so tiny and powerful that it's very easy to overheat them with so much power in such a tiny space. Even nvme drives and overclocked RAM now require clever cooling solutions to keep from overheating. Heat is the reason computing is slowly approaching a line that will be impossible to cross without either 1. new cooling solutions like submerging all the parts in antistatic liquid and pumping the water through a refrigerant cooler 2. quantum computing

After all the tech tuber endorsements years back I ended up buying a set and was very disappointed given the price, same cheap Chinese parts but 50% more expensive. On the other hand after spending years looking for good tools at a good price, "engineer" were the first ones I found that could trade blows with the premium (both in terms of quality and price) tools that I have used over the years. A pair of snips might cost $20-30ish instead of $10 but they trade blows with the $70+ ones IMO. The absence of SMD M5 and M6 (memory IC's) could suggest that the graphics memory could be upgraded to 12GB - unless of course the bus lanes to the GPU have been disabled physically or through the GPU's firmware. But seeing how the board appears to be all balled up and ready it would be super cool if you could re-flow a pair of them onto the card. Strictly for Science of course :)

The 3080 Launch Day Experience (TM) Get up. Rush to PC. You've got your 8+ windows up. Your timezone's launch hits. Refresh like a crack addict. Websites immediately crash in unison: - EVGA ceases to be, remanifests empty, barren - Nvidia doesn't crash, but apparently never had any to begin with - Newegg crashes, or when it works, shows you an 'Add to Cart' button just to tease you, let the dots circle meaninglessly - Best Buy doesn't crash for long, but existing 3080s INSTANT TRANSMISSION out of the real into the noumenal - B&H no longer exists. It never existed. - Amazon trolls everyone, either never had any stock or Bezos personally owns all of them now. Thanks Nvidia. Great launch. If you boost the price after this pathetic launch, I won't even be surprised, nor disappointed, just angry.

Got a MSI 3080 on my old 7700k, 32gb ram, ga-z270-hd3p mobo. I get 4 short beeps when starting up. Everything works fine tho. No crashes, slow downs, high temps, nothing. I'm intrigued as to what those beeps are. According to Gigabyte 4 short beeps has to do with the internal clock (it's not that). I have tried different PSU, RAM, old GPU (makes beeps go away), reset bios, different cables, etc. Wondering if it has something to do with gen 3 and gen 4 pcie (my mobo is gen 3, card is gen 4).

20:42 So is it save to assume some 12 GB card down the line ?
@shawnpepin78904 жыл бұрын
No. We will get a 20gb 3080, bit they will just double the vram in the modules. Those extra pads are for the broken parts of the silicon(binned) so those lanes are unusable due to the die being cut. Like he said in the video, those empty position will change for each individual 3080 gpu (bad parts of silicon will be different for every gpu) if the die had no defects then it would probably be branded a 3090 and they would fill all of those pads with 2gb gddr6x modules and that would be you 24gb of vram on the 3090
@falxonPSN4 жыл бұрын
@@shawnpepin7890 it's also interesting as it potentially sheds some light on their yields. Perhaps 2 defects per die was a high probability.
@ShatteredAxis4 жыл бұрын
@@shawnpepin7890 If low/no-defect yields improve giving nVidia more choice over what silicon goes in the 3090s and AMD actually tries to release something even halfway competitive then you could see a "3080Ti" able to utilise all those pads faster than you'd think. Besides, even if yields improve not all the extra silicon will be able to remain stable across all clusters at 3090 speeds. Of course if yields don't go that way and there's pressure you would more likely see an overclocked 20GB version with the Ti moniker. Whereas if AMD doesn't compete at this level this gen then the stock 3080 will be all we get anyway :/
