I searched for a video for about 8 HOURS today looking for a video that would assemble instead of disassemble. Yes I had to watch it backwards but it is the best video I've found thus far. You should post a link of the same video but played in reverse and sped up a little bit so people can assemble without rewinding 1087 times. Lolol. I'm kidding, it would be cool though. I finally finished reassembling it, I'm about to put the housing back on and see it she works! Wish me luck! I works perfectly! I got a little hung a few times but considering i have never even thought about opening up a drill, I'm kind of proud of myself!

Glad you made the video. I just bought the drill so far I love it very light 2.6 pounds with the battery which is what my 18 V battery alone weighed. I always hated the Dewalt drill driver I bought in 2007 ridiculous amount of weight over 8 pounds with the battery and very front end heavy. Had to use two hands most of the time. I was thinking about switching to a half inch chuck but after this video I’m giving up that idea. The KZbin reviewers that complain about The clutch selector housing being made out of plastic is ridiculous. Apparently they don’t hold this drill overhead like I do a lot, rather have plastic than heavy steel for something that does not affect performance at all. It seems like a great buy at $105 with 2 /2 amp batteries that have independent LED charge level indicator,charger and a carrying bag. The two improvements that would make it even better is if they skip the belt clip location and instead use it four a double end screw bit on one side and a double end Torx bit on the other side. I feel most of the people buying this would be homeowners,who would not be hanging this on their belt but could use 2 of the most common bits. The second thing I would suggest is they put a small LED like they have on the bottom on the top between the speed selector, and the clutch selector to eliminate any shadows while you are using the tool.🧰🧰🧰🧰🧰

“I always felt Ave was a genius compared to me.” That’s how I feel about Catus Maximus. I also appreciate how Mr. Maximus uses clear language that is easy to understand. Ave has a humorous cool type of drunk guy language, but it can be confusing. We can also see how Ave’s language has worked its way into the teardown community. Words like shmoo have become a part of the vocabulary.

Great vid! AvE is literally my favorite tool show, and after discovering you this is right with it! I bought the hammer version of this and received it the other day, thing is a beast! Bought my dad this one in a kit with the impact driver and he’s extremely impressed, especially considering he upgraded from and old NiCad craftsman.

Great breakdown. It is really nice to see someone like yourself that knows what they are doing do this before someone like me starts diving into something like this for the first time. I have a lot of mishap stories of tearing things down when something goes wrong and I didn't understand that I needed to keep track of an orientation of a part, or wondering where a ball bearing, or spring goes. I had to teardown my turntable (record player) last year and I still have a couple ball bearings that did not make it back into the turntable because I am not sure where they fell out from. Seems to be from an area I can't get to, but the funny thing is that I was able to fix the issue I was having and it plays great, is very quiet, and holds speed very well haha. Thanks for the video and cheers.

I have the Craftsman model which is similar. I want the gearmotor and batteries for something else.I ended up sawing off the chuck. The keyed shaft that goes into the chuck side of the gearbox I will probably just make a new one that fits what I need. I removed the balls from the clutch and replaced them with set screws.

Hi, I have a dcf899 that does nothing on a good battery. I opened up the case and saw a breakage in the wire of one of the coils near the base of that coil, I think. Is that normal?

6:58... I've seen AvE (ah-vee)... take apart dozens of gearboxes... There are some videos where he doesn't want to take it apart again for one reason or another... By I've never really seen him not want to do it because he wasn't sure if he could get it back together.. Just didn't want to do it for a second or 3rd time in a video or video series... really amazing how far cordless technology has come over the last 7-8 years... mostly the last 4-5 years... Nice work Big Cat..👍

My drill (very similar if not exact same model) has some extra vibrations with the gears, and the brake system grinds when I suddenly stop from full speed. Thinking of using that 1 year free service, was helpful to see what I'm getting into!

I usually leave the clutch is set to maximum because I'm more used to just throttling the drill rather than just relying on the clutch although it is Handy if you have to put in multiple fasteners in a row or you are working on screws that go into some plastic and you just want to make sure you don't strip them out

It's actually the opposite. Imperfect windings improve performance by lowering the self-capacitance of the coil.

Hello friends, can someone please assist: when i look at the base of this line of tools where the batter connects, i see 3 terminals, power in power out and what is the function of the 3rd terminal? Ground or signal? Can someone please walk me through this part of the circuit please?
@CatusMaximus11 ай бұрын
The third terminal in the tool is for battery temperature sensing. If the battery starts to overheat the tool will shut down.

You get a drill, charger & 2 batteries for a about day's pay at minimum wage. Starting from scratch, how long would it take a man to aquire the raw materials and build all the tools to build all the equipment to build all the components that make up this drill? All things considered, it is mind boggling. But, I went back and checked the average wage 100 years ago and the value of $99. If it existed in 1920, it would take 2 days pay to buy this drill. At minimum wage it would take a manual laborer, working on the Hoover dam, 8 days to earn enough to buy the drill. And he would cherish it.

Excellent video! While you drool over the 'technology" of the drill consider how easily the speed selector slider breaks. On the DCD791 which I have, the wireform shifting mechanism going up to the selector it causes the part to break when changing from 1 to 2. Had to fix mine after about a few weeks of use....very fragile part and poor design! Won't help to have caps that last 20 years of the plastic parts break after a few weeks. This must be an improved model that uses the stamped steel shifter/selector instead of a wireform. I need to find a 20V model that does not uses the unreliable wirefrom shifter.

The big problem with brushless tools is their very complex and delicate control electronics. They cannot be repaired and the entire circuit must be replaced. Brushed motor tools are extremely robust and their 4-pole versions are very powerful, which is why they still exist. many dewalt xrp series tools 15 or 20 years old working today.
