I love the videos. You have been a go to as I have been learning about e-bikes and batteries. I have been looking into the Bafang Ultra. There's a vendor in the states that has one with a custom controller and support. I talked to him for a bit and he was saying that you don't want to go over the 52volts with this motor because it will get too hot and break. From your working with these and running 72 volts on it, what are your thoughts? Plus how hard was the Phaserunner to setup on this unit, where you able to get the 50 amp limiter off of it? Thank and Cheers!

Sick tunes Andy and nice to see you shredding it up on the vapour. I'm just on the verge of building my 4th ultra motor bike and have just received my rockshox lyric ultimate 180mm forks. When I'm finished, I'll send you a pic of all 4 bikes together. You had me hyping for a bit because I thought you'd found a way to hook your exposure light to the motor but it was actually your brake hose lol. Compliments on your clean cockpit and neat cable routing. Keep up the vids & tracks and I'll be sure to share some pics and vids with you. PS, get a dropper. I know you said you don't need one but believe me, droppers and throttles are a match made in heaven. Take care mate.

Had my first go on an electric bike yesterday and it was so far removed from what’s depicted in this video. The Raleigh Motus step-thru with its 40 Nm 250W Bosch motor was limited to 15mph and was sooooo tame - like a kitten. Then had a shot on a de-restricted full-suss Haibike with 75Nm of torque and that was effing brilliant. But this has got to be another few levels above that. Awesome vid and tunes, as ever.
@DigBipper1884 жыл бұрын
Kinda like how my bike is. The 250w mode is really tame and, in all honesty kinda gutless... Soon as you kick it into the Cyclist's equivalent of Tesla Ludicrous mode *it's game on* Well... to a degree since I only have a 500w kit at the moment... I've still managed to crack 38mph out of it though which was a fun (and rather sketchy) ride.

I built an ebike usin Ni-mh cells lol. Ye old skool but dont knock it, i'm usin 5x 12volt 4800mah RC packs in a daisy chain. Fully charged its near on 70v ! Running a cheap Chinese 1000w rear hub kit, done the speed controller shunt mod to increase torque. Will do 35 easy now and it only stands me around £280 all in. Think i might need to change the 63v capacitors in the speed controller tho. Is any else running over 63volt on a standard 38/48v speed controller?

If anyone needs a charger on the cheap for a custom high voltage pack check out a video on youtube with title "Build a universal lithium ion battery pack charger". He's talking about a BST900W voltage boost constant current charger. Its just £16 on ebay & can charge any voltage pack from 24v to around 96v Li-ion or Ni-mh. You will need a psu for it tho, something like a 24v 6 amp strip light power supply there around £18 on ebay or any 19v laptop charger will do.

I can see a lot of e-bike riders ending up in hospital with power assist bikes when travelling at more than 25 MPH. THEN our lazy legislators WILL ban E-BIKES or KEEP current ridiculous speed limits. Politicians are too lazy to introduce sensible laws for e-bikes. E-bikes need a speed limit of about 40 to 45 MPH so they are able to keep in the flow of normal motorised traffic flow. ESPECIALLY ON HILLS where an e-biker limited power to 15 MPH, is going to be reduced to 5 MPH up hills IS going to be in a POTENTIONALLY DANGEROUS situation given the impatient, inconsiderate average motorist. Motorist are too stupid, too lazy or too fat to use e-bikes for local journeys. Politicians and most car drivers are too stupid to realise that the e-bikes WILL solve traffic congestion AND traffic pollution. THEY HATE CYLISTS ! EVEN THOUGH RIDING A BIKE IS UNCLUTERING THE ROADS AND PARKING SPACES. Imagine our cities where 90% of us are commuting across town by e-bike or e-biking to and from the train station. Trains can be easily adapted as necessary. Pollution levels and the gorgeous whether would return to the levels we all enjoyed during the Coronavirus lock down. Pitifully Obvious - unless you are a dumb politician. E-BIKE REGULATIONS NEED TO BE UPDATED. SCREEM, SHOUT and E-MAILS TO JOURNALIST - POLITICIANS AND MOTORIST. ( ie your mum and dad ) TOXINS from ever increasing motor vehicle use are poisoning us and our children. All of us are wasting thousands hours of valuable time in unproductive traffic congestion. The e-bike - tandem e-bikes - e bike trailers for the kids and shopping is our likely salvation ! E-bikes need regulations if they are to become the most popular form of commuter vehicle. Unfortunately Registration plates insurance and construction regulations for safety, similar to mop-heads will have to be adapted. Hub motors are too unstable at speeds above 30 MPH - Mid drive compulsory - Rim brakes wear out rapidly on faster e-bikes and are therefore dangerous - disc brakes should be compulsory for e-bikes - Compulsory -e-bike battery detachable to prevent theft and for recharging at work or destination with employers require by law to facilitate. Lockable anti-theft tracker system - compulsory. Speed limited by law to 45 MPH but with enough power to maintain that speed up most hills. Motorway lanes adapted and progressively widened to provide 45 MPH e-bike and e-recumbent bikes/trikes lanes where riders are three or four abreast from initially using only the emergency vehicle access lane. Truck lane 55 mph and car lanes 70 MPH. In Life the sensible are handicapped by the imbeciles. The most common accidents on motor bikes occurs when folks pull out in front of an approaching motor bike because the driver didn't see the motor bike which of course is bigger than an e-bike. I would strongly suggest fitting a LED head light which can be set higher in daylight preferably with a yellow cover to help the drivers see you approaching the junction. Bear in mind older drivers have poorer eyesight and much slower reactions. It's not much help being in the right if your dead. At night remove the coloured lens cover and lower the beam. We all need to scream at our idiot leaders in all countries to adjust legislation to make e-bikes more popular. The Laws in the UK are ridiculous. Most reasonably fit riders can easily exceed the 15 MPH limit without power assist but the same rider travelling above 15 MPH on a e-bike fitted with power assist EVEN if the power assist is not being engaged WILL BE BREAKING THE LAW. Failing to registrar the bike as a motor vehicle - no registration plate - no insurance - no motor vehicle lighting regulations - not wearing a full motor bike helmet etc................... Please copy and paste everywhere !

@@pitifullyobvious3036 hub motors are not stable above 30 mph? Lol, what nonsense you get perfectly capable hub motors for bikes that can go as fast as 70mph safely, you just need the correct components brakes etc.. Apart from that I'm with you..
@pitifullyobvious30364 жыл бұрын
@@themadharv With the English roads full of potholes riding at any decent speed on an e-bike with relatively heavy UNSPRUNG weight of hub drives - not for me. A pothole or any deflection will force the wheel upwards and out of contact with the road surface. The upward inertia force on the wheel and hub drive has to wait to be neutralized by gravity until it regains traction with road. The faster your going, the greater the upward force on the wheel + the weight of the hub drive, the longer the wheel will be travelling out of contact with the road surface. Mid drives are part of the SPRUNG weight of the bike and the impact of hitting a pothole will be dampened by the shock absorbers. Shock absorbers also protect the suspension spring as it controls the rate of spring deflection. If your fitting a hub drive to a bike with suspension you need to upgrade the shock absorbers to protect the road springs and to better control the wheel deflection over bumps especially on bends. This why car manufacturers try to design suspensions with the lowest un-sprung weight and fit alloy/ carbon fibre wheels on race cars. Seventy MPH is OK on a e-bike hub drive if you know the road is smooth and fairly level. Often you are forced to go over a pot hole because a vehicle maybe overtaking you .

@@pitifullyobvious3036 yeah bro, I have a mid drive just now on a mountain bike with no suspension. It's a BBSHD with an upgraded controller and 72v battery, it can go upto 50mph which is pretty scary speed. @@themadharv I think e-bikes and power assisted all weather velomobiles are the future transport solution. Covid and Brexit is the biggest game changer since WW2 and the great depression of the 1920s will cause a reset of values. The plethora of labour saving devices in todays cars is ridiculous. Do you really need electric windows - all cost money to install and/or repair and adds to weight. Weight of the vehicle will be the crucial fact in battery powered vehicles. Modern materials and laminates provide an excellent opportunity to invent, design and build light weight amazing electric vehicles in a shed. The World has ever been more ready for a new transport solution. When I was a young ( hansom ) man I could borrow my dad's car, pick up my girlfriend and park virtually outside the venue. It was the same driving to work. Now the cost of insurance is prohibitive, the girlfriend might change her sex on the way, you drive from one traffic jam to the next and when you get there you've got to drive around for half an hour to find somewhere to park. Then there is the ever increasing pollution of toxic chemicals from car tyres and exhausts that they say is killing 1000s of us every year. ! The power assist 45 MPH, all weather tadpole velomobiles is the pitifully obvious solution. 1. Helps to combat obesity - the mobile exercise bike that takes you to work/shopping/anywhere. 2. If built no wider than a motor bike will slip though congested city traffic jams saving time and money. 3. Reduce and eventually eliminate traffic pollution from cars. Sunshine days back again ! No more floods and forest fires. 4. Much cheaper to buy and won't depreciate in value 5. Much cheaper to repair and service. 6. Much cheaper to tax and insure. 7. Massive savings on fuel and/or hideous cost of polluting public transport. 8. A mechanism to pull the velomobile vertical on it's rear wheel stand then tethered to a pole, would allow six velomobiles to park in a space needed for one car. 9. When you commute to work unclip the battery and recharge at work for pennies. 10. When you commute back home unclip the battery and mid-drive motor, clip onto your dirt bike and go cross country racing ! 10a. If you’ve got a bit of land build a e-velomobile / e-bike race track- fun fun fun 11. Reduce injuries through Road Traffic Accidents. The strong carbon fibre body vehicle will be so light a collision with a car will likely PUSH the velomobile away in many cases. 12. The boss of Mercedes recently announce to costs of carbon fibre is going to plummet in the near future. So Guys start watching You Tubes like Andy's and learn. Get designing, Get building , remember if is going to be popular - It has to be idiot proof and safe ! Let's Go Go Go !!!!! innovate - the World await your amazing creation.

ebikes.ca has decent kits you can buy, you can buy an " enduro " type ebike frame ali express $898 cdn, I just ordered one, Risun motors because the bottom bracket placement, legs dont move up and down with suspension, much easier to keep pace and control. Start with 36v... then upgrade battery 48v, 72 etc.. .... volts = speed, amp = torque, amp hour = capacity. Fair warning, custom built sometimes means custom pain in the ass.... kit for bike you have already, $1000.00 to $2000.00... Luna cycle, High Power Cycles, EM3EV, BMSbattery.... all decent places to source from... BMSbattery has about the best price on batteries IMO... beware exchange rate.

Hi Andy, I'm going to install a hybrid inverter for grid tie and eventually lithium battery. It will be 12, 350 watt panels at 38.4 volts open circuit. I was going to connect them in series and parallel to avoid shading, the amps of the panels each are 9.09 noct. I was going for 4 panels in series to make 3 strings, so 38.4 noct x4= 153.6 volts which is fine, the amps would be x3.. So 9.09x3= 27.27 amps running to the inverter.. This setup is with 12, 350 watt panels.... My confusion is with this type of inverter.. The name of it is Solis 5kw Hybrid Inverter.. Model number RHI-5K-48ES It says it can take 600 volts dc input, that would be ok if I ran the system in series, but I think this inverter can only take 11 amps dc input.. It says in the description 11/11.. If you have any input or the chat it would help me out. Actually looking at the stats of the inverter, the mppt operating voltage range (V) is 150-500.. So if these panels got shaded would the inverter turn off as the volts would drop under 150 volts. As it is the 4 panels in series make 153.6 volts 😂😂.

Buy a cheap hub motor kit and upgrade an old bike. 1000W to 1500W is plenty and you can have heaps of fun on road or off. Best thing is when your tired just use the throttle.

It sucks but this is what I’ve found. When trying to make batteries over 52v I have lots of trouble fitting 18650’s into a frame with decent capacity of at least 10ah. The ONLY solution I have found which is not perfect by any means is Hobbykings 6s10+ah packs. They’re so small and I can usually fit over 100v into a frame easily with up to 20ah+ depending if our manage to get the 16ah packs or not. Hook up a bms and enjoy your cheaper long range pack, it will need replacing at least 2 years earlier, but it still costs at least half the price usually, not to mention making a pack up can be much easier for newbs using connectors rather than spotwelding a pack :) It’s a bitch and comes with its own issues, but I’ve never seen ultra high power bikes without pouch cells instead of 18650’s

For reference, I’ve always run at least 19-20s on my Bafang BPM and I’m the only one to be able to do it for more than 3 years before turning the plastic gears to mush.
@andykirby4 жыл бұрын
You are right. Lipo’s are great for extreme power, nothing beats them😁. You gotta be careful with the plastic gears on those Bafangs, this M620 has metal gears, I was surprised when I opened it!
@JamiePineappleWyatt4 жыл бұрын
Oh man, I knew all about that before hand, I killed it on purpose getting home for an emergency, I purposly removed my hard limit and let it free flow 100amps through the controller, I’m honestly more surprised the windings are still intact 100%z Here’s the result of that run. I pulled it open finally after 2 years, I actually thought it may have been the key on the shaft with the way it was behaving, but it turns out mine doesn’t have one, but a bloody bushing instead 😂 drive.google.com/file/d/10FbaQmOB9sCBctsNnJuykYk9mn0nJhkJ/view?usp=drivesdk Any chance you might know of a dealer in parts that would be reasonable to ship to Australia? I’d love to have this hub back on the road as I have a frame that is just begging for it. I was watching some of the tear downs for the 620 and I was super impressed, if only they got that rotor balanced properly like they did in the bbshd though, the windings and housing are literally perfect though I wouldn’t change a thing there. 👍 I honestly went straight to your web store as soon as I saw you run the phaserunner on it (this is exactly the sort of thing I would have done anyways 😂) but soon realised shipping to here in Aus would make me cry, not to mention the conversion. I honestly though about creating a channel so I could share my knowledge when I first started with ebikes as I always go into every meticulous detail I can. But that fell through back then. Now that I’m getting into off-road Electric Scooters I’m contemplating getting the camera gear together and finally giving it the full go, not to mention actually sharing my experiences with reddit and eventually endless-sphere which is honestly where I belong more. 😂
