Thank you for your candid, yet thorough, videos on smartphone repairs. This will be very helpful, as I'm watching this on my Moto Z3 Play now.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, by my reckoning your problem here was mistaking a graphite thermal spreading tape for simple heat resistant plastic tape. This is a useful distinction for one important reason and one trivial reason: the important reason is that while graphite is not as conductive as most metals are, it does still conduct reasonably well, making it easy to short things out with it. The other reason is that without the tape, the phone will, in theory, get slightly worse thermal performance after it's removed. In practice the difference in performance is negligible.

To avoid this mistake in the future, be advised that I just confirmed with a repair of my own that as long as the device is turned off prior to the repair, it is safe to disconnect the display without disconnecting the battery, though of course you'd only want to do this in cases where the screen was functional enough before the repair to be certain that the device is powered down, and I don't recommend this if you don't have good static protection in place. When in doubt, disconnect the battery. modern phones are universally able to deal with abrupt power loss, but many models are prone to sudden death due to board-level component failure when disassembled while powered on. in other words, it worked for me, but use this method at your own risk, as always.

Thank you . Great video. I used your link to Injured Gadget and purchased the moto z3 LCD screen and tools. However, your TWPD code did not work, you may want to fix it.

I Love the Blue color of the play I wonder if you could take the CPU and camera and the better parts from the regular Z3 and swap them into the Z3 Play Blue body? That would be cool

Someone else broke my phone..I got it warranted from walmart..square trade..calling around local places they are either more than 120$ or one dude told me moto is pricey to fix and he told me there is problem with screen where it always pops out..is this true?

I have this phone and changed the screen and it turns on but the screen doesn't respond to me tapping on it or swiping?

So.... I guess there's no just replacing the broken glass screen, huh? You can buy them for 12 bucks but sawing it off with tungsten wire looks really tough as thin as that LCD is....

Why exactly is this screen replacement a fail? The phone seems to work well and there are no cracks in the screen.

I guarantee that screen popped right out in a couple of days. That adhesive is not strong enough to hold it in place.

STOP using metal on interior parts; and those " crappy little plastic pieces that keep falling off" are parts off the internal phone. You also cut the red plastic that was the insulator between the EMI tape and the battery connection; that's why you had a short.
