I prefer the KBT because of the 3 position switch, I like to shut off the flow and let my coffee steep inside the basket when making a 16 oz. brew, I can then let it brew directly into a coffee mug. Works great. :)

You could still get the same effect by removing the carafe, which stops the flow, for 30 seconds, I suppose. So it's either use the flow switch on the older model, and count to 30, then open it up, or on the newer model remove the carafe and count to 30, and put it back in place. You do lose the half-open option, though, on the newer model KBGT . . .

@@scottlane6353 It's not the same, if you remove carafe on kbgt the brew stops!!! You must pull back carafe and press in white switch. I have the kbgt myself.

Cem Bozkuş Yes, I make custom PID control single serving technoworm machine, but it take a long time to make a cop of coffee because you wait for the bean to be roasting. Then the bean automatically grinded into small technoworm machine and brew single cup of 10mL. Is better to begin yesterday, but totally automatic. This custom machine makes perfect coffee cup and not a single bean wasted.

Will MacDonald I assume it's made for an office environment when people go to the break room and get a cup of coffee. Nothing worse than getting there and having to wait or come back later.

To me the selling point was the brewing basket - the one on the right is much studier/secured when placed-in. Also - if after 6 mins, 99.9% of the coffee is brewed; that .01% means a few drop here/there - the auto-stop comes handy.

The auto stop is more prone to failure and also doesn’t allow you to spin the brew basket for even extraction as these units are prone to soaking only the left side of the coffee. I have both and the KBGT is not that much sturdier and has a lot of drawbacks.

Is there a difference in the shower head? I just bought the kbt and was concerned about the shower head. It doesn't hit all the grounds.

marshal brown Same here! I actually returned a couple in the beginning thinking something was wrong. I use various brew devices, French Press, Pour Over, Clever, etc. With all of those I know all the grounds are getting wet. I have the smaller 8 cup Technivorm MoccaMaster with thermal carafe and manual brew basket lever switch. If I just fill with a level bed of coffee and run it, there is always a cone shape, uneven bed of grounds when done. All the grounds still appear to be wet and well saturated. I have kept the top off and watched it brew. Appears that the coffee slows down the drip and the grounds are sort of doing like an immersion brew sitting in water for a brief time. Always ended up tasting great! I did get in the habit of about a minute into a brew to take basket lid off and stir a couple of times. Doing that I guarantee that everything is getting fully saturated and it usually leaves a much more even bed of grounds when finished. Honestly both ways produce a great pot of coffee. I don’t know why they don’t just make a better shower arm. I guess they don’t think it’s necessary. I even spoke with USA customer service and they said that the original design is perfect but if I wanted to sir then go right ahead. As much as I got to love my more hands on controlled brew devices I find myself using my Technivorm at least 6 days a week! Occasionally French Press at work or in the evening. Let me know if you hear anything else related to the shower head not covering all the grounds.

America's test kitchen said that the KBGT has an automatic 30 second pause function where it restricted flow to let the basket fill in order to fully soak the coffee grounds.

Yes, they did say this. And I just don't see it, at least mechanically the basket itself has no such feature. Perhaps it's just that the initial water heating brings only a smaller amount of heated water into the basket, enough to soak but not enough to seep all the way through and drip into the basket? That's all I can really think of here. If so, I haven't seen this feature called out anywhere else but on America's Test kitchen.

Is there really a difference between coffee if you brewed a half pot? It would be interesting to taste the difference. Manual drip at half and the KBT full rip, brew 5 cups, see what happens.

We need a taste test as this is a good point. Technivorn USA informed me not to be concerned as the taste results are almost Identical!

How caffeine addicted do you have to be to not be able to wait an additional 3 or 4 minutes to drink your coffee? And even if you are that addicted, how about just pushing the start button 3 or 4 minutes sooner?

I would imagine it's more of break room at work thing... get a batch started, take a serving and then get back to the grind ASAP. No need to sit in the break room all day, when there's work to be done.

No! There is a video out there stating there is and I bought the kbgt unit. I called Technivorm USA and they told said no pre-infusion!! Coffee taste great. Good beans, filtered water and proper delivery is key.

i am very disappointed in the temp of coffee.. it measures at 131f. they claim to make 195 to 200f.
