was the coffee hot in each brewer or lukewarm some experts Ive heard from say for small batches of coffee they prefer the cone shape basket over the flat bottom maybe that's why you tasted more flavor in the moccamaster

J Schneid as with any good thermal carafe. Especially when brewing small batches. you really need to preheat the carafe prior to brewing. Brewing Small batches & That carafe will suck the heat from your coffee if you don’t preheat it. Hope that helps

I had my mind set on the technivorm and then saw the ratio 6 and got that one instead. It’s AMAZING!! I can’t imagine a drip coffee maker could be any better.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either brewers. The ratio seems like more of a hassle with the carafe. I’m sure you get used to it. I still like my breville precision brewer. I like that I can adjust the temp for different roasts to get the flavor I want especially for small batches.

I returned my breville precision and replaced it with the ratio. Ratio is ahead imo. Breville was luke warm sour coffee.

That sucks. I really like mine. I preheat the carafe & depending on what coffee I have, I just adjust the settings for my brew & it’s good. I usually only drink 20 oz @ a time so it does me pretty well. I’m a firm believer in preheating that carafe or unless you brew at least half a pot it will suck the heat away from your coffee trying to heat the carafe & you’re coffee will suck!

@@4wolverines It is an option to get the glass carafe with cone filter from the ration 8 and use with ratio six. I like the simplicity and the cone filter better for my half pots. Not ideal for letting it sit but I like drinking fresh brewed.

​@@4wolverinesYes I have it as well and I've yet to have lukewarm coffee come out of it and I have yet to have sour coffee come out of it. Some people are just really angry and they take a coffee maker personally

Recently got the chance to compare these two, along with several other brewers. We found the ratio has the largest showerhead, and resulted in really incredible and even extraction. The moccamaster has the smallest shower and fails the #flatbedchallenge the most out of any brewer we compared it to, resulting in more uneven extraction. You can certainly make great coffee in both but I was disappointed to see the moccamaster perform that way. To get more even extraction on the moccamaster, you can move the shower head side to side during brewing.

You can also swivel the basket to different positions a few times (For a minute or so) to get a more even extraction. I've also tried moving the showerhead side to side as well. Since a full pot only takes about 6 minutes, assisting the brew cycle doesn't really require much time or effort. It's actually fun to manually assist the brewing.

I own the latest version (moccamaster select) as well as the Ratio Six and to be honest, the Ratio is much better because of the design of the showerhead

I Serioulsy regret purchasing this machine. It broke in under a year and customer service wanted me to pay to ship it back, plus wait 3 months to fix it. I would definitely buy something else

Ratio 6 does not detect the amount of water like the Ratio 8. You haven't optimized either brewer. The Ratio 6 kicks ass with a larger batch size. Only the Ratio 6 has a bloom and pause, which lengthens the contact time. It should need a slightly coarser grind than the TV. The shower head on the Ratio 6 does a much better job of agitating the slurry evenly. A dark roast? You lost me at dark roast. And, it would be easy make adjustments to the recipe or brewer to change the flavor profile. Ratio 6 wins this comparison, easily.

Each to his own. In 10 years your Ratio will be in the landfill while the TV will still be young, going strong.

Interesting, I watched James Hoffman review both of these (well 6 different makers but these two were included) and for him the Ratio gave the richest and most flavourful cup (his favourite) while the Technivorm he found to be the 2nd weakest of the 6 he reviewed. Guess it really depends on how you make them, beans used, etc. But interesting to see very different results using same machines.

I'm sure it is a frustrating part of reviewing. Both could probably be dialed in to make very similar cups, but in the interest of uniform testing keeping the coffee, grind size and ratio the same could favour one brewer over another.

I though the Ratio Six James used had a conical filter, whereas this one had a flat bottom. That could have had an impact.

Technivorm is designed, manufactured, and assembled in Germany. It will likely last forever and if not parts are readily available and easy to replace.
