In the south, you refer to friend’s parents as Mister so and so or Misses so and so. I can still remember the look on my Southern Baptist father’s face when my younger brother had one of his friends over, and he said what up Mitch.

The "Miss Welton was my father" joke refers to a man who doesn't like being called Mister because it makes them feel old and/or they respect elders which they don't identify as. So when they're addressed that way, they say "Mr. So-and-so was my father."

Lol, I like how you appreciate ma'am. I literally say this to everyone regardless or age. Yes, Ma'am / Yes, Sir / Thank you, Ma'am / Thank you, Sir. I don't about everyone but being raised southern you are taught to say it. Yes ma'am No ma'am, etc. *Juno Temple is the most adorable thing ever.

@@willvr4 I’m a taller girl so I always appreciate when a lead female character is taller and more sturdy for lack of better words.

The South is all "yes ma'am" and "yes sir" regardless. It's a respect thing for us. It's mostly in the South, though, because when I travel, it's always "Just call me..." and I'm wildly conflicted.

I’m the oldest of 4 and my siblings say ma’am to me. 😂 It’s so ingrained in us. We also call people “Mrs. Barbra” or “Mr. Jim” less formal than using their last name but still for respect. That might be in the more rural areas though.

I'd love to watch it but I can't bring myself to pay for AppleTV because it's the only show I'd be getting it to watch.

I think most sports movies/shows are great because the actual sport aspect, is secondary to everything else. That's why it's so popular with people who have never even played a sport. The timing of this show couldn't have been better since it came out during the pandemic. Everyone wanted a feel-good show to watch, and this delivered 10-fold. The characters are just so great. It's sad that it's over after 3 seasons, but I think that's the best way to go out...on top. No need to drag it out as a money grab and watch the quality deteriorate. (I'm looking at you, 'The Walking Dead')

I grew up in Ohio and never called anyone sir or ma'am. Now after living in Texas... I've had a 2 year old girl ask me a question and I respond yes ma'am. Why should I disrespect someone just because they're 2? Everybody was 2 once.
