www.ted.com It's been 25 years since the first PC virus (Brain A) hit the net, and what was once an annoyance has become a sophisticated tool for crime and espionage. Computer security expert Mikko Hyppönen tells us how we can stop these new viruses from threatening the internet as we know it.
TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at www.ted.com/translate.

What an absolute legend. This is one of the best talks in ages. Some very fascinating points made, and the overhead projector was hilarious. That's also the first time I I've seen a floppy disk in 10 years :D Invite him back for another talk I say!

I was very surprised to see a Finnish guy giving a speech in TED, and I was pleasantly surprised the content and how he delivered it. Great speech on an interesting & important subject. P.S. Extra bonus points for the accent.

I agree with his conclusion in the sense that talented individuals should be given more opportunities but global cooperation on policing internet cirme will solve very little since he himself said it was very hard to even know where these attacks are coming from.

I know someone who did virus on Apple II and Atari before that time frame. They were just proving the concept with no harm, but probably one of the first to do a "virus".
