Haha. Glad you saw those! The actors in this are also the animators (Cognitive media). They wrote the hilarious bubble gags and they've also done a few other TED-Ed Originals (not to mention the RSA animations). Talented group! Another fun fact is that the vo actor is also Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank & Titus in Final Fantasy X. Anthony Sacarello that would be useless in most situations, because once you went invisible, such as if to hide from someone, you'd have no idea when you were safe because you can't see or hear anything, because sound and light can't hit your ear drums or retinas.

They both involve EM waves hitting a part of your body. Yes, light and sound are two completely different things, but they travel in similar waves. The only real difference is that one is transverse and the other is longitudinal.

+PastaSam Sound is not an electromagnetic wave. It is a pressure wave in other words a mechanical wave/kinetic energy. Sound requires a medium to propagate and you still exist as a solid object. This means that sound waves bounce off of objects with mass (unless its a black hole) even if you you can't see it. That's how sonar works.

Hmmm, I wonder though... what if the way you turned invisible was that you could shift which wavelengths of light were able to hit you? So visible light goes through you... but say, for instance, infrared light doesn't? You'd be detectable only by infrared cameras and people wearing infrared goggles, and you'd be able to see the world in infrared.

It's not about being invisible from within. It's simply being undetectable to the human eye. Like the invisibility cloak in Harry Potter, all we need is an object that bends the light around it effectively turning us invisible, but it can still be removed if we take it off. Like I said it's not about being invisible from within, but simply being temporarily undetectable by using an external device.

What if you had the ability to generate a field of invisibility, rather than just turning yourself invisible? You could still put the field around yourself to turn invisible, but you could put it over your clothes, shoes, objects you pickup, and other people, and well, anything really. That way you wouldn't have to worry about dust or coffee stains, once they entered the field, they'd be invisible to. You'd just have to be careful where you put the field so that the ground beneath your feet doesn't disappear as well! And if you wanted to become visible again you could just shut down the field or shrink it to the size that nobody could see. The only problem left is not being able to see, a quick trip to a hunting store for an infrared scope and an elastic band to attach it to your head should fix that. Of course, you still wouldn't be able to use your power on very rainy or foggy days (people would be able to see the rain disappear into the field, thus see the outline of the field itself.) , but if you lived somewhere dry (as I do) like Nevada or Arizona, then that shouldn't be much of a problem.

For something to be invisible, light passes through it, i.e. glass. For you to see something, light has to bounce off of the retina in your eye, creating an inverted image and an electrical impulse. The light cannot bounce off your eyes if it passes through them instead, so yes, you would still be blind.

You were right though, you can see pictures from a pinhole, but to be able to see full pictures through it (using Petzval law) say from a 1 meter distance (focal distance) the diameter of the pinhole must be in the order of 1 micron. if you want to see further the hole size must get bigger so no invisibility. Depends - is the suit itself invisible, or does it also make you invisible? If A) you're basically just naked in public but warmer. If B) you're still blind and people can still see you anyway because of dust, damage and moisture. On the bright side, you can "turn it off", but I can't imagine it's much fun trying to wriggle out of a constraining full-body outfit while blind.

Just because super powers are unlikely does not mean they are impossible. Here is some vague science for them: 1. Invisibility: scientists have developed metamaterials with the right molecular shapes for making objects invisible. It is fully possible (unlikely of course) that a human could develop a mutation which gave them an extra layer on their cells which would allow them to be invisible. This could interfere with fluids and nutrients coming in or out of cells but it could only be activated by the person's brain waves. 2. Psychic powers: there are materials which can direct specific types of energy, such as a material which interferes with/directs sound. If someone's cellular membrane had this additional mostly non-interactive layer then in theory they could use this to direct energy for these powers. Objects can be levitated if their electrical charges are aligned. Perhaps this can be done if someone can use their whole brain at the same time. 3. Super durability: while it is impossible for the human biology to have total super endurance, someone could very well have a mutation which grows an extra tough layer on their bones (it would need pores to allow access to the bone marrow). Also, honey badgers have super tough bullet resistant skin. The mutation is not far off. 4. Healing factor: totally possible. Flatworms can regenerate after being cut into a bunch of pieces. I know humans are much more complex but with technology it is possible. 5. Super strength: a real person known as Uberboy in Germany has the strength of six normal people. It is likely this is not the upper limit for humans. 6. Electrical powers: training allows people to release more electricity than normal people. Maybe with an eel mutation... alright, that one is stupid. 7. Super speed: goes along with super strength, unless talking about speed like the Flash. I'll admit that's not possible for a human without technology. 8. Resistance: I have hypothesized that with an extracellular layer again one could have great resistance to say, heat and cold. I think some bacteria and plants have this. 9. Immortality: there is a biologically immortal jellyfish. Given how little we still know of science, I bet there is a way with technology. 10. Magic: pure speculation, but suppose some ancients were able to tap into a proposed 5th force of nature which operates at a scale of a few feet (similar to the human body size) and effectively have natural magic. I don't have scientific support, but I'm throwing it out there. 11. Technological powers: Obviously the Iron Man type super hero has a lot of support. I have a hypothesis on fusion which occurs near absolute zero, and I have some hope for that soon in the future. Point is, for every law in science, there is a loophole. There is a huge difference between unlikely and impossible.

Immortality, the way genetic engineering is moving, i won't be surprised if this becomes very possible in the future. However being able to live for ever doesn't necessary mean you can't die. In fact did you know crocodiles and alligators are also immortals. They can literally keep growing until their internal organs stops keeping up with their external size. Would this happen to us if we were immortal? Maybe we stopped aging at our peak healthy age, but then do we just keep getting bigger?

Of all the videos I've seen of this series, this is clearly the dumber. First of all, this is starting from the premise that your invisibility comes from the transparency of every living cell of your body, which isn't necessary. And what is worse, it attempts to create convenient random scenarios to give the connotation it desires, even when that takes to make over-the-top noises that would embarrass a five years old.

A nice idea, but an inherently flawed one - 1) You can't see yourself or what's behind you, so you'll have no way of knowing how closely you match. 2) Even with a reference image, what are the odds you're going to be able to manually reproduce a photorealistic image on a 3d canvas? 3) Even if done "automatically", it's still only going to work from certain angles. 4) If you DO manage to create an intricate design that works for multiple angles, the illusion will be completely destroyed the moment you move even slightly.

here's my theory: Stop Time: - That would mean everything stops, even yourself. - Let's suppose you CAN move, but you can't really move the particles around yourself, which means your heart stops and you can't breathe due to being unable to move oxigen because of the time stop. - Now let's suppose you CAN breathe and your heart still pumps, but you can't see anything because light itself also has a speed to travel, and since light is frozen, your brain can't process any images for your eyes - And finally let's suppose light can also move, people around you would see you teleporting every time you resume time, and that's it. Regeneration: - every time you are injured, there's no tell about how ACCURATE would be the regeneration, for example, if you get an amputated arm, when it grows back, you MUST make sure nothing is in the way, otherwise it would end up with an awkward form.

How about mind time travel, where you actually transfer your mindset to a past/future version of yourself from the past/future? I don't see a flaw on that one (unless you consider time is like on "Back to the Future" where things disappear when you change the past, and not like "Dragon Ball Z", where past and future happens in different timelines and have no effect on each other).

Your mind is the chemicals and electric signals from your brain. You'd basically have to build a time machine to send chemicals and electric impulses back in time then "inject" them into your brain, which runs into the same problems as regular time travel.

What if you could enable and disable the invisibility whenever you wanted? Like Invisible Woman from Fantastic Four. Also, I'm pretty sure if you were walking around with objects floating around you people would freak out and run. I think it would be funny. Also, at night it would still be hard for people to see you.

But the benefits of invisibility are minute at best. You can hardly move for starters due to the inability to see and the fear of not being seen by drivers. Really the only benefit is to terrify people by being a disgusting looking ghost monster, who would likely be shot in certain areas.

in the book series "wildcards" by rr martin(yes same guy who created GOT), some people have super powers(aces) and/or mutations(jokers) have these very same weakness and power limitations. there was a guy who could turn invisible (and his clothes), but became blind in the process. he could turn it off and on. but studied a form of zen meditation to memorize his surroundings when blind/invisible. the series of books added "science/reality" to using of super powers.

I'm a 12 year old girl and i know that you can see through air because the particles that make up air are so separated, it allows you to go through it without effort. including light. that goes the same for water, except the particles are closer together, making it a little tougher to for light to go through.
