His message of innovation, true innovation, is really amazing. But I believe that, to understand exactly what he is talking about, one has to read his book, Zero to One, a marvellous piece of inspiration.

It's interesting how in this he mentions all the great fears of what might destroy the world. And despite disease being one of them, we still failed to stop or fight Covid19 early on

I'm most concerned about a virus pandemic similar to what was portrayed in the Stephen King novel "The Stand".

How can Peter Theil hold his own with Reid Hoffman in debate as described in Wired ? I don't get it. I've seen Reid speak in person at 500 startups and was inspired, and his Charlie Rose interview was spot very engaging. There is very little message I can take away from here - but he does have the connections.

Fletcher Cocquyt did Reid Hoffman buy large stakes in PayPal, facebook, and yelp for very cheap early on and by using logical reasoning never had a single failed investment, no

Peter Thiel claims that competition is for losers and that monopolies are the way to go. Does this mean that I should stop with my start-up idea? The reason i ask this is because my startup idea is a platform that is going to compete with existing platforms and i truly feel like this platform can compete and maybe even dominate the current ones. According to Peter Thiel, this is not a good idea. Request

If it's working for you, then keep at it. The monopoly thing is just Thiel's (particularly anti-competitive) take on things. It would be a way to create a big company but not necessary to the benefit of all its users
@javiertrevino55357 жыл бұрын
When he talks about monopolies , he means that's the ideal situation for any business . For example Space X is the only company on earth who is planning to take people to Mars. But this is somewhat flexible, because in Zero to One he also says that if your company has a 10x improvement of an existing idea, then you're closer to a monopoly . So I don't think his purpose is to discourage startup founders, if anything his book is all about how a startup is the only type of organization that can take us into the future and into technological improvement as a society because of huge corporate bureaucracy in big companies. In fact his view on monopolies is very optimistic , just think about this: let's stay you have 5 startup founders/entrepreneurs: if all of them start a dating app, they will compete with each other and other already successful companies like Tinder or OK Cupid. On the other hand, if these same 5 people start 5 different widely unique ideas, not only they will escape competition but also have a better opportunity of being the first at doing something new.

If you think u can compete then it should be because you have a monopoly on the best ideas essentially .

Most European countries have a 35 hr working week and 6-8 weeks annual holiday. It should be more but since the mid 1980's the "free market" has stifled the progress of socialism.

But they think a 1.4 liter car has a "big" engine, LOL. Still better than a Trabant, who can forget that technological miracle of socialism.
