The fact that there are talks on importance of kindness & researchers being conducted on it is actually surprising considering kindness is a default emotion in the body.

I think more research needs to done to find the limits of kindness because when it is a question of survival, everything goes.

Neeharika Saluja, it may be the default, but it has been overridden by civilisation which requires differences in responsibility, and structured differences in how people are rewarded for their contributions. It also leads to some people wanting to control others. Many western schooling systems rely on control, reward and punishment. How can punishment be given without suppressing kindness? We even think it's fair to punish people who break the rules! That's why fairness and kindness are not the same thing.

It's not that we like to help each other, we need to help each other in order to survive. It's common sense, so it becomes almost second nature. Almost..

Did they say how many ( if any) people walked by the letters and left them were they were? Id like to have seen the video on this experiement. People by nature are not kind. Ask any parent. Do you have to teach a child to steal, to be selfish, or to lie? No. you do have to teach a child to be honest, to be nice, and to be polite.

You can't use children as an example because they do not have fully developed brains. I remember when I had an opportunity to steal money when I was five and I did, I did not feel anything (I stole again after this still no feeling but the first time I stole I got caught but the second I almost got caught). But after a couple years later I had other opportunities to steal but just the thought of it made me feel guilty, so I did not (I was still around 7/8 ish at this point). TLDR- You can't use children as an example because they do not have fully developed brains.

+Jamie Murray They're making many assumptions of neural correlates while utilizing ambiguous definitions and misinterpreting data with a simple static model in mind (e.g. negating neuroplasticity etc.), as usual.

so then, people are not naturally good at birth, but have to be developed into good people. which, again, is the point. and to FuturePoint, the BBC website has video of a child stealing a smart phone from behind the counter while dad distracts the staff. my guess is the child is about 5-6. now you tell us why.

Silly talk.... it starts with the confusion that returning a littered letter to the box isvanbact of kindness. Returning a letter to the box is simply an act of civility and culture.....this has nothing to do with kindness......

If people are so kind then why are there so many scammers, people in jail, wars, etc.? No, people are chaos. Kindness is only one aspect of human potential. This world invites chaos so that there can be order. You can't have one without the other. It's magnets, duhhhh.

So many you say? I don't know where you're from but probably not planet earth. We tend to pay way more attention to bad news and events, so some people may think the world is a terrible place. I can assure you, it is not. I would rather say the world we live in currently is a paradise for humans.
