I ve been in eating disorder treatment, and learning hunger/fullness cues is part of it, because its normal for those cues to be gone if you`ve struggled with food a long time. There is ways to get that back, and you can get help from a dietician or ed specialist. Usually it means eating mechanically after a meal plan to teach the body and brain when its supposed to be hungry/full. After a while you learn to listen to your bodys needs.

I've lost over 60 pounds so far in my journey. I have seen endless amounts of KZbin videos on what to do about this. You do not need to look any further than this video. Every last bit of what she says, every question she wants you to ask yourself, is so unbelievably important it is unfathomable to understand until you adopt them into personal experience. Whenever she talks about what works for me, what is sustainable, and what will work for a lifetime, if you frame your approach to weight loss in that exact manner, you WILL succeed. I have lived and breathed these things and was fortunate to find them on my own, and whenever she is preaching what ACTUALLY WORKS and the behind the scenes of how to defeat this seemingly unbeatable monster I got so energetic and filled with goosebumps. I promise if you are reading this comment, the way she describes how to make this work for life is 1 million percent the way to pull this off.

"face your stuff, don't stuff your face" I LOVE IT! I found myself eating because I was anxious BECAUSE I kept putting stuff off. It would be looming above my head and creating anxiety which I would try to shut up by eating--- but then I would have DOUBLE the anxiety now as I feel guilty for binge eating... and the cycle continued. It was when I ALLOW myself to feel --- you FIRST encounter the emotion not the thought. If you listen to the emotion you'll understand the thoughts that triggered it. Ah pratice, practice, practice. I also realized my anxiety was because of my OVERTHINKING. When I stopped and practiced living in the moment, mediating even for 2 minutes and deep breathing, helped a lot.

Be graceful to yourself Yes maybe you are not where you want to be but remind yourself that you are not where you used to be and that is a win!! I think one of the most common ways people gain weight is through eating out of boredom. The best ways I found to overcome that was to chew on something and trick yourself into thinking that you're eating but you're really not. Sugar-free gum is a good idea.
@ReneeJonesPackYourOwnBag4 жыл бұрын
Indeed! Boredom is a primary driver for emotional eating. Chewing gum is an option, but perhaps overcoming emotional eating is the best method. When we face our stuff, we no longer need to stuff our faces.

I lost 15 kilos when I was sick. It was the biggest blessing and then after I got well I gained it all back by binge eating. I thought momentary pleasure would keep my self-loathing and depression at bay but really doesn’t work that way. Got sadder and sadder and hated myself more and more. Still hate myself but am regulating my portions and working out. It is helping a bit.

@ReneeJonesPackYourOwnBag3 жыл бұрын
It's so often true, so you are not alone. Rather than framing it as letting go of your childhood, what if we're remembering and cherishing it, but we're also releasing what no longer fits us? We no longer walk in a single file line with our hands at our sides as we might have done at age 7 either --

It's never been a question of a diet. I was always frustrated, when my parents would tell me not to eat something. They had no idea what it did to me. It was detrimental as I had low self-esteem already and they gave me the feeling of failure. And I believed it. Especially after I gained 20 Kilos over the last 10 years despite being on and off a diet. This year I started diferrently: I'm allowed to anything - but I'll try to choose healthy options. It has worked so far - 6 kilos in 4 months. There is no pressure from anybody, especially me. If I eat chocolate - well, I'll eat healthier the next day. But it's only possible because I don't have the stress coming from exams and Uni anymore. I simply can't do it, when I'm too stressed. But it's ok. There'll be less stressful times. And that's when I can pick up the "diet" again and I won't stress myself if doesn't work for a while. I hope it'll work this way. I can't do any normal diet, sadly.

I really believe stress is the danger. I transfered to a new department right before my previous colleagues were thrown into a major software and work process change. I visited them about 6 months later and was shocked to see how practically all of the had gained weight. Always be aware of the danger of excessive stress!

That's so wild to think about - when I was little, my parents used to get me McDonalds every time we would go to the airport to fly somewhere. I hated flying (and hated airplane food), so a happy meal was a nice treat. A cheeseburger and fries is often my go-to comfort food now.

I see a therapist for an eating disorder (bulimia) and even she says eating disorders aren’t really about food, it’s about using food as a coping mechanism. Whether that means restricting it or binging on it.

A lot of people say "I eat when I'm stressed lol" like it's cute and then 'i don't eat when I'm stressed" like that is the sad one. They're both equally sad. Once you feel like you've lost control over yourself, it's a problem.

Renee, you are SO funny with it ... "Face your stuff, don't stuff your face" ... With Covid19 and confinement I' ve put 14 kilos on ... Like you, I have several sizes clothes, thank God for that, nothing fits anymore... With all shops closed I can't find many food I like (I eat what there is left on the shop shelves, loads of fish, salads, thank God I don't have a sweet tooth ;) and I still put weight on), nor clothes that fit, so am always wearing the same 3 outfits, when my cupboards are overflowing with clothes I love and hope to wear again one day... I distract myself with good movies, and art or nature documentaries, while worrying about my family and friends, (Covid spares no one), instead of painting or organising my writings, my main desire for several years ... Am 74 in June and the last 4 years have been horrendous, I spare you the details but Covid19 is the last straw... I feel void, empty, useless ... Over being depressed but PTSDed to death ... Your video has given me the boost I needed, Thank you and STAY SAFE !

I’m struggling. But I am going to give myself grace, because I was emotional the past 3 days and wanted to binge eat, or starve myself for 1 day. That’s what I typically do when I become frustrated. But I avoided all of those things and tried to control my emotions. I want to be healthier mentally.
@ReneeJonesPackYourOwnBag3 жыл бұрын
Let the emotion flow, but make good choices. Sometimes the power fades when an emotion is acknowledged and heard. Yes, give yourself grace. Beating up on yourself just restarts the cycle. Blessings!
