Everybody agrees that mentorship is critical to the success of corporate companies and organizations, yet few discuss what should be done to improve their mentorship process. Kenneth Ortiz shares his thoughts and wisdom on what is needed to develop successful mentor relationships to raise up the next level of leaders around us. Director of Lead Venture as well as the Bethany International Ministry Internship program. Kenny is a dynamic communicator, gifted Bible teacher, and published author. He has a strong track record of mentoring young adults and nearly 15 years of leadership experience in local church ministry, para-church ministry, and business. Kenny has been a youth pastor, conference speaker, school administrator, and successful entrepreneur. He is also the host of a popular podcast, “Theology for the Rest of Us.” Kenny’s undergraduate work was focused in the areas of Organizational Leadership, Psychology, and Biblical Studies. He is currently pursuing an M.Div. degree with an emphasis in Christian Education from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as taking supplemental graduate courses at Harvard University. Kenny is an avid reader, history buff, sports fanatic, Disney enthusiast, and coffee addict. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you for the great talk 1. Willing to spend time - Creating an impact takes time. Provide face-to-face mentoring as much as possible. 2. Have a plan - Won't happen organically, but has to be deliberate. Provide homework or material to dialogue about. Plan around the mentee's goals and not centered around what you want to teach 3. Be encouraging - Show praise constantly. Praise behaviors and choices, not natural talent. 4. Know how to bring correction and instruction when needed - Ensure you step in to say if the mentee is doing something wrong, or if something could be done better. Use appropriate body language. Don't be harsh, but bold and clear.

You are absolutely correct. It was all of the good bad examples that allowed me to choose a path in life that didn't lead to destruction. I truly enjoyed the content. "My whole life is 100, I came from zero. I saved my own life and became my own hero." - Ger'Al
