It’s unbelievable when you think that if, the 22K people that have watched this video, were to get together we could all start this system for ourselves. Then, when other people see how this well this system works, will join us. Eventually we would be able to turn our world into great abundance. Jacque Fresco, rest his soul, gave his entire life to this system and we as a planetary community could put his ideas to practice so his life would have been for good. Jacque will one day be the greatest hero known to humanity.

Reading some comments, it looks like some people think that it is a fight againt the current system. Its not, its just a better option to live, using the current resources. So, its useless to fight, trying to put our opinion. Instead, the RBE is an option, which is outside the box, and viable. So we need contribution, collaboration to extend this ideias or create new ones aligned to real resources towards an improving quality of life, globally of course. In other words, it is useless to be aggressive, so if we are proposing a transition from a "cart wain" to "electric train", dont try to argue using elements from the old paradigm, like horseshoe, horses or excrements, because doesnt make any sense. It is a change that will emerge from society, so we need all of you. Many people wondering HOW we get there in the comments. Even Jacque himself said he could not elaborate on that because he would need to know exactly "when" it were to happen. And it would depend on several things: 1. How many people from different countries were willing - the more people, the easier it shall be. 2. The level of intelligence at that time - Right now, the planet is in denial. We need to get smart & quick. 3. The resistance of the bigots - the people in power right now would most likely trigger a war than to give it up. 4. The Level of Technology - Technology could offer tremendous advantages in relatively short time. 5. The quantity of Resources available - No stone or metal can be spared if we are to make a go of this. 6. Skilled Personnel - Everyone can learn & are welcome but we require the worlds leading structural engineers. 7. Location - This is important because building a VP city in the Dessert would add to the initial challenge. We can get there. There is a logical path, & even mistakes are considered a breakthrough in the Scientific field - getting us that bit closer to our goal. Keep talking people. We don't have much time to do this.

Excellent presentation of the RBE. I really liked Sue's delivery, unfortunately JF is too old to do this any longer. Peter Joseph gives a more intellectual and thorough analysis but this hits an easy to understand and maybe warmer spot. I think we see so many negative images of what we are doing to ourselves and the planet that a more positive take like this may be more powerful for change. Unfortunately the 1% aren't going to change any time soon, they don't need to from their perspective, and they control the media for the most part. If we actually could start talking about an RBE in the mainstream I'm sure it would rapidly gain ground. The problem is that it is not in the interest of the corporatocracy that currently runs the show. Therein is the dilemma - exposure.

Thank You for presenting this idea without any intellectual ego attached, or in a pushy way, or as if it was the only way, unlike Mr. Fresco. It's one thing to be a great designer, and it's quite different to be able to present your idea in a proper manner. But still I would rather a high level of personalization and customazation options built into the system in terms of archechtural design rather than being offered only fresco designs just because he's the designer of the project.

To make what they call "RBE" a reality would require much more automation to eliminate work for pay. Wouldn't you prefer to be paid in a unit of exchange that allowed you to select your personal allocation of resources?

I love the idea and it is not impossible as people are quick to say but implementation is extremely complex. No one is going to down everything and just start doing it. Small scale is the key here, building a micro sized city (toy sized model) to represent those pictures shown and demonstrate how a computer can control what we need to satisfy basic needs such as food production, water treatment and transportation. After that add other needs like production of things we need If you can successfully build a micro sized functioning system that physically carries out all these things you say maybe people will be more willing to entertain the idea rather than dismiss it upon hearing it.

We do it through science and build a world where the self-improvement of consciousness is no longer the major idea because the systems we live offer that in abundance. We could say, the systems do not drag our consciousness down into the gutter of money. Our collective consciousness improves together and at a faster rate than the individual approach of improving consciousness.

@nathansmith32448 жыл бұрын
it is achievable but must be scaled up and don't very efficiently. What resources does that country have? Glass? Plastic? Iron? Salt from the ocean? You make a complex detailed inventory, then set a number of scientist to work using only the products they have readily available. I personally would start work on huge vertical greenhouses on the southwest sides of all large buildings, I would also start building geothermal and huge factories to be converted to fully automated factories. Get to work on bots. Bots that learn simple tasks. Break everything down. Also build tons of bots that make bots. A robot the size of a car welder making 100 people sized bots, and in turn those people size bots making 100 small dog sized. Those need to run on electric, and they need to be solar and wind powered. Not fast either. If they make one bot a day your on a good path. Cause in a week you have 5 people size and 10 dog size bots. in one week. Now one month from then you have enough to run one whole factory. in a year enough to run the entire process. Those bots might do things as simple as fold a Tee shirt, or move Tee shirt from pile a to b, or put car tire on and tighten bolt. Another passes the tire from the flat truck to to bot that puts it on. Break every step down. They can work 24/7 and when one breaks down a bot removes it from the line and repairs it. or recycles it. A program monitors every moment for flaws. errors in movement or changes in friction or speed occur that bot is pulled off. It constantly replaces parts

I think the best place to start is the US. We have the 3rd largest population and land mass on the planet. We also already command so many of the resources. That’s a good start. And it would be a great way to actually live democratically instead of greedily and under the almighty corporation. But I agree that it will take great coordination and planning. I hope someone is working on it. At first, it will mean money. And the economic screwup that is the pandemic means that we need a resource based economy now more than even. We needed it before but now it is being demonstrated that the monetary system is not sustainable for the long term. Especially since it isn’t working now.

I love the idea of the venus project. My problem is timing. Will we force to the transition when we are at an advance stage of global warming. The transition from neoliberal capitalism to a resource base economy. How do we eliminate a system oligarchies and institutions systems and governments who are complicit would rather see short term profit gains over the destruction of the species? And may alternatively find ways to try and absorb resource base economy system model in a capitalist system in a sort of dystopian society. And lastly, the people who will invented the new technologies for the resource base economy. How do we prevent power structures from forming from our cultural conditioning?

There are already real life examples of what we advocate. Eco villages such as Wildpoldsried in Germany and Findhorn in Scotland produce all of their energy through solar and wind. Findhorn produces most of its own food. Look up the Wikipedia articles. Evidence for some of the things we advocate.

The society that was visualized and described looked terrifying, seems like you would be a prisoner of society, having to live your life in a very specific way. I wouldn't be able to live in that society, but of course a resource based economy doesn't have to be made exactly in that fashion.

You don't have real life examples, Wildpoldsried is a farming community that relies on it's ability to export excess electricity to the grid, it has no ability to store that energy for it's own use, without the fossil fuel grid to regulate and smooth out the erratic and irregular energy they produce it would be worthless. Erratic producers like Wildpoldsried put a strain on the grid that depends on regulated dispatchable electricity.

Do we RBE advocates say we should use money? I typed in your link, got a webpage that says the article doesn't exist. But those energy prices, is it the state's fault or are energy companies raising their prices because they have less revenue? When the bottom line is money and profit every party is going to maximize that and blame the other party for when something goes wrong. What's happening in Germany is probably a synergy. Companies seeking revenue, green policy by the state yet max taxation

It is a bit more complicated than just say that a computer will do everything for us, we need to elaborate on how the process will be with numbers and clear strategies. And I say WE because I support this movement, but this movement must be scintific from the beginning than a political movement which is what I've seen so far.

You point out where this is going yourself. Yes, most folks worked in agriculture but due to machines and automation the jobs became obsolete. Nowadays most work in the service sector but more automation is creeping in as well. Where's the next sector? Did you know NASA is developing systems for future Mars missions where the astronauts grow their own food for 18 months? Such projects eventually find their way to the common man.

***** Great, your idea of a RBE is in conflict with the main premise of Freso's and Merola's definition of a Resource Based Economy. You're intelligent enough to realize people don't share the same VALUES and that they will disagree. There's no such thing as good science or bad science. Science doesn't come with inherent VALUES. A little hint: ALL economies are based on resources, and we have this tool called money. We use it as a medium of exchange to trade for the resources we VALUE so we don't have to all agree. All you need is enough people willing to exchange their resources for a resource you VALUE more. Bottom line we are already in an RBE system one that uses money because we disagree on what we value.

Unfortunately, and this goes for, in large part to much of the zeitgeist movement too, the RBE concept is largely the culmination of Jacque Fresco's life work and he's put a hell of lot of time and energy into the project. Federal reserve notes are created from debt and used to steal from the poor. It's value is in the fact that everyone is forced to use it. Bitcoin (for example) is not based on debt, steals from no one, has genuine value and is money. It enhances the lives of the people who use it. Both are (strictly speaking) technologies. Blaming money is like blaming the fist that punches you in the face. Money actually means something. It's not what RBE advocates say it is.

Kevin Beal, the debt is not money but it’s in money transactions. Using currency as a mode to assign value is an extra additional step padded into the distribution of physical resources.

Every economy is resource-based. Economics is the _science_ of the exchange of resources. Money is a technology, and innovation in money has been stopped by threat of violence. Money can be a wonderfully beautiful technology that increases everyone's quality of life, but it can't when it's issuance is done by a violent monopoly and it's value undermined by predatory inflation. Money ≠ federal reserve notes, and anyone who tells you otherwise is either ignorant or exploiting you.

Saying that money is merely a medium of exchange and then go from that to say that money-based systems are evil (structural violence), that is to imply that voluntary exchange is evil. No one ever says this explicitly because it's completely ridiculous, but that is the logical conclusion of this kind of thinking. Please learn some basic economics before you make such claims.
@katherandefy4 жыл бұрын
Kevin Beal it used to be that people brought resources physically themselves and in order to survive they used money as a way to make up for the loss in resource once those resources are delivered. The Venus Project’s concept of a resource based economy is that the process of distributing resources can be (and increasingly already is being) done by automation, including transporting. This is a very recent development. Structural violence is a problem baked into the old system because anyone without a resource or enough money is outside the sphere that allows for participation in the monetary system. All the ways into that system other than charity involve human rights violations. For instance, public poor relief programs are notorious for housing inspections, privacy infringements, and work/income limits all of which systemically keep the poor impoverished.

We have the technology already, we need the right conditions for a RBE to occur. Unfortunately that will probably require the collapse of the monetary system. The initial city that will be built won't cost trillions. Once we begin to transition the costs as per a monetary system will lessen as money will lose its value.

But money is not voluntary. In a monetary system as we have now, money is a REQUIREMENT. Try to eat without it. Try to have heat in the winter without it. Try to have a roof over your head without it. Try to do ANYTHING without it and tell me again how it is voluntary. That's the problem with money, its not the money itself, its the love of it that causes the abuse of it. Again... its used as a tool for control and as long as we have such a tool as MANDATORY, it will always be abused.

The industial era had only just started maybe 50 years prior to the Bolshevik Revolution. Today tech has far outpaced much of our ability to meaningfully contribute and manufacture. And the work conditions were miserable and dangerous. Just building infrastructure which is absolutely basic and essentail was and still is by far the most dangerous deathly work. What did it take to industrialize America? Consumer culture via the Ad Council and implementaton of the New Deal, along with work programs but it was WWII that catapulted America into the industrial age. So now we need to make a new shift into the new AI automation era. How we do it is an important decision.

But then what is the point of living if you can't gain anything?
@katherandefy4 жыл бұрын
Have we gained anything since the ages of the past? Everyone has a cell phone and information. Nobody had that until around the year 2000. Can you find better prices now? Yes. Can you buy better quality? Only if you are wealthy and then only if it is being manufactured in great enough quantity to make the business of making high quality products viable. So in a resource based economy with all resources in common, the products would be of much better quality. You would gain that. The waste stream would not be clogged with planned obsoletion as a business plan for monetary gain. You would gain health, cleaner air, cleaner water, cleaner food, cleaner products, and cleaner environment. You would feel better.
