Author of the book “Heureux comme un Danois” (Happy as a Dane) and named one of the “24 women of 2012” according to the French magazine L’Express. She is part of the advisory committee for the Positive Economy Forum since 2012, an initiative lead by Jacques Attali under the sponsorship of the President of the French Republic. I have two daughters. My 15 year old daughter has for the past 10 years said she wants to be a doctor. I encourage her and tell her that she can be a doctor if she is willing to work hard for it. She gets good grades and she is very self disciplined. Gets up early every morning and gets to school on time without me having to nag her. She does her school work again without help. I do believe she has what it takes to reach her dreams. And as I tell her, if she discover along the way that her dreams have changed, that's alright too. My 8 year old daughter doesn't know yet what her dreams are, only that she would like to work with animals. I tell her that she has all the time in the world to figure it out. What ever she chooses to do she will be great! She is a good student too. She asked me once after big sister got a top grade if I was really proud of her. I told her that of course I was proud of her sister, but I was proud that she did her best and if she was a student that had a learning disability and got a much lower grade, I would be equally as proud as long as she did her best. It's not the grade, but the hard work I was proud of. Love from Denmark

Eydna, your girls are very lucky to have a loving and supportive Mom. Along those lines, I've always thought it was most valuable for the world to raise kind kids with integrity and compassion- with respect for themselves and others. Beyond that, who cares if they are a doctor or a dishwasher? What a wonderful world we would have if more Moms were like you. :-)

Perkeren I guess it depeneds on what kind of outlook you have when you visit a country. If you go to a country hoping its a happy one you will be more likely to notice good things that affirm what you hoped to see. If you look for sad depressed people thats something you will notice 1st. Every country has good and bad so whatever you choose to see.

I didnt notice any of that, well they do drink a lot, but this is true for most of the countries i've visited. Suicide rate? Denmark is 105 country on the list with 9.1 per 100K suicides (south korea = 24) - so obviously you've got wrong stats.

Perkeren actually you are incorrect maybe it's a good idea to do a bit of research before you post? Actually doctors started prescribing high levels antidepressants mostly prescribed related to job stress or anxiety? Maybe it's because they are so efficient? As in Denmark they only work an average of 32 hours a week verses America's 47 hours (I used stats from gallop, most others sources had Americans working 50+ hours on average per week) Also part of the issue may be that Danes go to the doctor more because they have free universal health care, where as we Americans pay a lot to go the the doctor even with insurance. As far a suicide rate you are actually incorrect Denmark has a lower suicide rate than the USA. Denmark is at 9.3 deaths per 100,000 people, USA is at 10.3 per 100,000. So in short I'm not even sure what you are talking about? Not a single thing you said was correct.

So often we choose to do what will keep a roof over our heads- because being homeless is not a path to happiness for most people. One of the problems with the culture I live in is not believing all persons involved in a project (company) have a great value and are necessary for the project to be accomplished, not wanting to pay them a "living wage"

Wow! What an amazing speech. This has really made me really happy. I've always wanted to be a writer and a gardener. Fiction and flowers are like my favorite things. I graduated as the salutatorian of my class and I could feel the tension and wonder on other people's faces when I told them I liked horticulture and I want to be a writer. This speech has really empowered me to strive for what I truly want and not be shaken by people who think I'm silly. Doing what you love is really one of the best ways to be happy!

Actually she gave us a simple way to finding our own happiness but I assure it's an effective method, we need to be ourselves, we need to trust ourselves and others, for me she presented the solution to our problems perfectly.

We have something like this in rural India. (Particularly in the south). In small towns and villeges, we all work together and there is a strong sense of trust and community I don't see in the US. The air is fresh, the sky is blue, and the Earth is right beneath your feet. It's quite beautiful. I would recommend that if you have the time and resources, take a trip to rural India. Take a trip into the mountains of East India. You won't regret it.

Live in peace with nature. Treat animals respectfully, carry spiders outside unsteady of hoovering them away, go for a walk in the forest every day, only speak kindly and look for the good in others, make your house/flat a home, every now and then invite someone in your home, grow some veggies in your garden or some herbs on your balcony, cook and eat together with friends, family or strangers, read the bible, listen and dance to music, get up early to watch the sunrise, go to church and pray - and you will be happy, no matter where you live. It's not about living in Denmark or being a Danish person, it's about living in peace with yourself, other human beings, God and the nature and animals. ♡♡♡

Planting seeds = creating value - Creating value for self and others, bringing our talents to bear in our immediate environment, having meaningful dialogues and contributing to our community. One Summer I worked as a cleaner in Denmark. It was one of the happiest times of my life. I often describe Denmark as my second favourite country. 'What is my favourite country ?' you may ask; as yet, I haven't decided ! Trust through friendship, peace through trust.

Hygge... what is it .for me living in Denmark .most of my life but also having resided in the states and japan and traveled to many countries it is the place where you find a moment of peace. Where you sit and relax without thinking of choirs, time or worries. It is right now when i am writing this, it is in 5 min when i have taken my shower and sit and enjoy my cup of tea . It is when i read a book or take in a movie or when i put candles on the table tonight and have a nice dinner with a talk of how life is going with my son and daughterinlaw... hygge is what you make it to be. To be in the moment. To listen to the People that join you. To hear them speak to listen to their voice to feel them... that is hygge.. to take a blanket and curl up on the sofa... to go to the beach for a barbacue in good company.. to have a birthday party in the woods with family and friends... that is hygge... and never rush off to the next thing... the next person... the next spot... be in the moment. And enjoy where you are and with whom you are

Trust, Enthusiasm & Wellbeing 🇩🇰 in our society we enjoy today & Looking forward. Which in fact is a way of life. We recognize the ability to reach individual definition of success. In Denmark growth is not the goal. Our ideology is mainly freedom. Next year or next season is a positive path. Just try not to Take it for granted. We trust eachother by being “naive” or vulnerable individuals. If you cheat us you make a failure against us. I believe in everyone untill they show me the opposite manner in life. Tolerance. 🇩🇰 Whenever We celebrate our goals or achievements. Next year or decade We never Take for granted. In some countries it might be standard to calculate in growth. Just imagine if you lower your Expectations a little. 🇩🇰 Your effort remain the same High level. Then when you reach a level of success and not taking it for granted. Your comments inspired a thought in me relating to the mirror reference (15:25). As subtle as the difference between envy and jealousy, there seems a difference between the reflection we see in the mirror, and the reflection we try to cultivate for the world to see. My observation tends to indicate happiness may be increasingly disturbed by a shift away from the emphasis on the mirror towards an emphasis on the selfie lens. The introduction of the second reflective element resulting in a circular referencing “anti-happiness infinity mirror” of sorts. For those captured between the two, any quest for happiness would seem futile. Efforts to change one will affect the perception of the perception of the other which will affect our perception of our reflection so we will necessarily seek to change what we portrayed in the first place… Thus, permanently transporting us around that infinite circular reference. The nature of physics tells me infinity can’t really exist, so there remains hope for those strong enough (and lucky enough) to escape that catch-22.

A lot of people seem to be missing the message that it is up to the individual to spark change in their life. In any democratic society, there exists the privilege to enact change within a system. I would argue that even when your life is threatened every day by being born into a society that does not value you - even then you have the ability to control your own actions and perspective. People from every culture like to blame the system that they are in because they want to be valued but they do not want to value others. Attitude is everything.

Now Theres one of the points you have missed in what she said. The Money does not go to the goverment, but to the society. So in their eyes they make 80.000$ a year, in which the donate roughly 48-49% to the society. The goverment isnt the enemy in Denmark, like it is in many other parts of the World because corruption is as low as in can get (there are always bad seeds out there).Atleast this is my opinion :-)

I don't have a Clean-Up Engineer, I live outside of city boundaries, so it isn't included in my services--I'd have to hire a private company, and wouldn't THAT be a privilege! I am very thankful for those to do this work. With my husband and I doing it ourselves, recognition for the blessing of having help is keen in us. Everyone on earth who contributes to peace and order is doing something highly valuable, recycling being part of this particular thing.
