Have you ever felt trapped by your own mind? You’re not alone. World-renowned composer, performer and playwright Deborah Henson-Conant set out to write a musical called “The Golden Cage,” about this experience, only to discover that she was trapped in her own inner cage. Through the process of completing and filming the musical, she made a profound discovery about how we turn our own minds into a prison - and how true freedom comes from admitting we’re trapped, courageously sharing our stories, and reaching out for human connection. Deborah is a Grammy-Nominated composer/ performer who has toured internationally as a solo artist, debuted her original works for electric harp, voice and orchestra with symphonies from Boston Pops to the National Symphony Orchestra, and toured with legendary rock guitarist Steve Vai. Her Academy and mentorship programs support creative harpists worldwide and her educational residencies combine performance of her original music and theater works with faculty and student collaborations. She is the inventor of the “DHC” electric harp in collaboration with French harp-builder, CAMAC. Deborah enjoys performing at TCAN.

WOW!! Such a beautiful, profound and personal reflection of the truth we all live. Thank you, Deborah, for your vision, passion and vulnerability. Thank you for trusting the steps to unfold, for living your story (which is our collective story,), and for creating an experience through musical theater that we all can share. Thank you for helping us remember we are here to fly, together! 🙏🙏

"The key is when someone reaches in & you reach back" ... this is the purest wisdom I ever heard! So true. Waw! I love playing The Nightingale on harp, it's my favourite piece ever. I didn't know the woman who wrote this, but hearing you speak, it makes complete sense how deep your music moved me

I saw her at a Caernarfon Gwynedd, UK} harp festival in about 2006, when she had dreadlocks and played both classical concert harp, then turned to her electric harp.......and played like Jimmi Hendrix....or acted like it! Such a great searching for herself. I loved her immediately and felt her longing to just let the music roll. I play the harp and find it hard to remember tunes, so I can IMPROVISE......such joy and release......not in the same style. Thank you so much Deborah!
