Most Opeth albums tell a story, so just listening to one song and trying to figure it out doesnt work like with other songs. Mikael is a storyteller. He also named his daughter Melinda after this album. You also cant judge them by one song or album, they are so unique in their music and style. But yes this is an album about two lovers. The story goes along the lines of: He is cast out of their village, they were sweethearts, while he was gone she became a nun, he finally returns for her and she is conflicted over love and vows. In the end: death. Sort of like a romeo and juliet thing just a bit different. Mikael is a musical genius too. I really recommend you listen to the first 8 albums to see how they change and evolve from the 90s into the 2000s. I also love that Opeth uses words I never heard or knew before because it made me research, made me smarter and influenced my abilities as a writer. Opeth is hands down my favorite band.

The whole record is a single story about a man who returns to the village where he grew up, for his love, Melinda. The whole village are like christian extremists, and melinda is either promised to someone else, or has become a Nun (lyrics are very unclear here). in the end i think she gets murdered and he his hung by the people of the town... sth like that

11:00 "Maybe (makin' me?) kinda anxious" Spot on. For being a death metal-influenced band they're far more "anxious" than they are "death metal heavy", but that's what makes them unique. You guys don't look unentertained, you look like you're actually paying attention. That's what a band like this needs and it's so much more satisfying to see.

Probabably their most known song, very mellow: Windowpane One of their catchiest heavy songs (forgive the double bass): Master's Apprentices (I prefer the original mix by Steven Wilson).

I remember first hearing this song as an Opeth fan. I thought it was so strange and different than anything I've ever heard before, there isn't a lot of Opeth songs like it. As for the lyrics; I've listened to Opeth to 14 years or so, and I don't know a lot of their lyrics lol. A song I think you'd like is Cusp Of Eternity. In the newer stuff they abandoned the growling and gone almost full on prog-rock. It's still really awesome music but very different than their early stuff

Dude - just AWESOME reaction to the introduction of the heavy part - good stuff! I think that's pretty much how every Opeth fan reacts to parts like that on the first listen even after multiple listens haha. And don't worry, your reactions are GENUINE and AUTHENTIC. I don't want FAKE reactions like 90% of other youtubers. You two look like you're genuinely into the material not forcing it.

And 5 years later... I wonder if you still listen to Opeth? I, as a longtime Tool fan, have been looking for a band that would fascinate me, take me down their rabbit hole like Tool. Opeth is the only one who succeeded. Man, don't let the rough vocals put you off, because I avoided them for too long because of that. When you realize how talented Mikael Akerfeldt is and when you open up to the music objectively, you will feel indescribable pleasure through their music.

Abhijeet Singh yeah, maybe not. But hey, ISIS did, as well as Mastadon, so... Satyam Pandey Im not sure I catch what You mean, man. Dave quasi-started Megadeth.. So are You insinuating that someone was in both bands, when it comes to TOOL and OPETH? ? Damn, maybe Im dumb and just not getting what Youre saying.. And honestly, It wouldnt be THAT far fetched to have MEGADETH open for METALLICA.. Metallica is obviously the bigger band, all opinions about them notwithstanding.. I personally stopped listening to Metallica for the most part, after they blew their load, re-loaded and blew it again, haha.. Cryptic Writings was the last I really got into Megadeth.. So, can You elaborate on what You mean ?
@brandonlee97475 жыл бұрын
Satyam Pandey I would ((edit: thats, 'I wouldn't agree that they would destroy Tool, haha)) agree about them destroying TOOL, but I am very biased, being a huge fan of Tool. But I respect Your opinions of it all. Opeth seems to have alot of depth to them, which is what drew me in to Tool back in the day. Im glad Wallace made this video.

uuuuh.... ya'll are way off on "falter"... I also found it pretty funny the way the dude off camera said: "falter: yeah its like falt line, like a crack"... lol... Jesus Christ, goddamn public education system... smh... it's just hilarious how he said it so matter-of-factly and so sure he was correct, and how because if his confidence, ya'll just took it to be true. lol. "fault line" is with a "u"... "falt"... isn't a word. "falter" is basically to lose one's way or balance or step or momentum. Or to be unsteady, wavery. like you might hear it used "Careful on that cliff buddy-boy, if you falter and lose your footing, it's a long way down." or maybe "The priest had faltered in his faith. Now he had no qualms whatsoever when touching his favorite altar boy." or maybe "He struggled to recall his first bukkake, but in his old age, his memory had begun to falter. Besides, they all just kind of blurred together after about the 200th." or maybe "He found himself in a deeply strange dreamworld, yet completely lucid. Asleep, yet wide awake. But now the very fabric of the reality around him was faltering. Soon he would awaken to the doldrums of his banal existence." or maybe "He was supposed to keep watch all through the night, but his resolve faltered and fell asleep. He woke to find his entire family beheaded with semen dribbling out of their gaping neck-holes." or maybe "In their heyday, the band had been adroit, artistic, prolific, and inspired. Sadly, their impetus faltered. Fame and fortune had worked its way through and through, leaving them mere husks of their former selves. Now they write apathetic, unmoved, and creatively sterile. Basically... now they're shit." Lol... I know I'm going a little overboard. I like writing. I'll shut up. Oh, it can also, it can be used to describe a stuttering speech, as in: "H-H-He... He f-f-fucked my dad?", Charles faltered.
