Also here's a thought: This is only a horror film if you're a guy. No girl would look at a teenage girl's body hurting rapists and assaulters who try to hurt her and go "Oh no! That's horrible and completely undeserved!" Like none of those men would've been hurt if they had respected her saying no and not consenting. But because THEY chose to violate her, they faced consequences. Which is horrifying to men because they're not used to the idea of having to face consequences for hurting women. If you're not a man, this is just a weird and mildly intriguing idea. Also, the fact that whoever made this looked up the stories that were used to discourage RAPE and decided that it needed a cure and that cure was "Finding the right man"? I'm assuming this film was written by a man. Probably one who also does victim-blaming.

The concept of this movie is intriguing but executed so poorly with the male film writer and director. The main girl's sexuality is entirely defined by the men who violate her right down to the end scene. It would've been much more powerful to see her actually explore her own body and not need another man to "conquer" the teeth for her. And the complete and utter lack of any female characters for her to talk about this with as friends is just another element of the male gaze and misygony. She's this "normal" Christian girl or whatever with zero close female friends? Not to say liking this movie is bad, but I feel like you have to be very unaware of the effects of sexual trauma to find the humor in the sexual assault scenes okay. Imagine if the initial assault happened and then instead it took on a proper revenge route as she takes control of her own sexuality and finds more men through her school and conversations with girlfriends to seduce and attack? Instead of assaulting her multiple times as a punchline.

Honestly, back when I was in high school, they definitely talked about male genitals, but very, VERY lightly glossed over female genitals. The best picture we got was that human body cut in half from the side. Which was strange to me, because at my middle school we had to take a whole ass trip to learn about birth (our 8th grade science teacher even showed us a video of the ENTIRE birth, up close and personal too)
@nabbitabbott61614 жыл бұрын
Why do they gloss over female anatomy? Is it because the owners of said anatomy don't need to know anything further than "have babies" and all that? No? Then for hell's sake, what is the reason?
@Monocultured014 жыл бұрын
My high school luckily covered both reproductive systems equally, but since I live in an abstinence-only sex ed state, they didn't teach us anything about consent or sexuality or even forms of protection. The teacher's way around his legal inability to teach about that was to bring in a guest speaker from an STD clinic to talk about STDs and segue from there into talking about birth control and the fact that yes, you can get pregnant in a hot tub.
@mariaisabel2034 жыл бұрын
Reading this type of comments makes me mad. Most schools don't have an excuse to not talk about female and male reproductive systems equally, and I dare someone to tell me it's because of religious reasons or that bullshit. I go to a Catholic all-girls school and I was still taught everything about genitals, STDs and contraceptive methods (even if we are told to wait until marriage). Kids need to learn about their bodies so they know if there's something wrong with them that can be fixed.
@professordekarios4 жыл бұрын
my health teacher spent days showing us male STDS and never any part of female anatomy to the point where a girl ended up in the hospital because she and everyone else at school didn't realize your genitals can be different to the point where you can't safely do anything with them ... so definitely a very bad issue

RE: male gynecologists You do you, everyone do what they're comfortable with. However, as someone who suffers from pretty severe endometriosis, I will say that the only gynecologists I've had who have actually listened to me have been men. Every woman gynecologist I've had has treated me like I was exaggerating how bad my pain and heavy bleeding were, one to the point where she refused to treat my condition despite me asking her multiple times. I'm not saying every woman gynecologist is like this. What I am saying is, from my experience, women gynecologists are way more apt to dismiss or downplay their patients' symptoms and it feels VERY rooted in "I know what my periods feel like and you're not describing my experience so your experience is probably wrong." :/

I have the same problem and fainted multiple times from blood loss and when we wanted to go on the pill she didn’t want me too because I was a teenager and didn’t “want to give me any ideas” and when I needed her to sign a paper for my breast reduction since I was dealing with chronic neck pain from the weight she still turned me down because she said “you’re still so young and you might want to breastfeed some day and sometimes there can be complications that could stop that” I was like lady I just told you I can’t get out of bed, I’m much more focused on having a normal life that being able to breastfeed. Besides how am I supposed to meet someone and take care of a child if I’m stuck in my bed because it hurts too much to move. My mom switched me to her gynecologist who was a man and he signed of right away because he could see my pain and helped me get on a good birth control that made it so I hardly got my period or the terrible cramps and migraines that came along with it. So yes while some might feel more comfortable with a women I find that my male gynecologist didn’t judge you at all and was much more understanding of my pain and always was like “look you know your body and symptoms better than me, if the pain is unbearable it’s my job as a doctor to help you, not push my own opinions onto you.”

@rosannabaptisto18063 жыл бұрын
Okay I may be wrong but to answer your questions and just a opinion.. 1. At the opening scene you see a power plant in the background so that might explain her mutation and the moms sickness, maybe some form of radiation and all that. 2. Maybe she only used sanitary pads as she's afraid to probably put anything up in there including tampons as she sees it as a sin for her belief in being pure until marriage. And we aren't sure where the "teeth" are placed maybe you have to actually reach inside the vaginal canal. Idk..🙈🙊. 3. And maybe b.c. it as Kennie pointed out it's supposed to discourage rape, I would have to say maybe it works on her emotional level if you notice the first Curly haired dude and Dr. Both all but just did as they wanted besides knowing they were all but raping her, third curly haired dude it was all consensual until she heard the "bet" then her and the teeth got mad and there went his you know what and as for Brad we all know what happened there, It was pretty messed up she ran into nothing but shitty ppl! I'm kind of glad she has something to defend herself with since she has all that bad luck and keeps running into shitty ppl! I'm just saying and as I said just an opinion... Dawn, like a lot of people, clearly had very limited knowledge about stuff like this. a lot of parents don't talk to their kids about sex-related things despite the importance. sex ed varies in quality/execution but she was in public school where it can be less than helpful, as shown by the male teacher not even being able to say the word "vagina" in class. unless her parents were looking down and in there, which I'd hope they weren't, there's no reason they'd know. and a regular doctor's checkup does not include a full downstairs exam. in the beginning flashback, she bites her brother's finger so yes she had them since very young. with everything else in the movie, we can assume they're only visible and.. out when she's being violated and it's nonconsensual. plenty of teens do not visit gynaecologists; she does eventually do that because of her predicament but it's not unusual for a girl her age to not have been to one if they've had no issues down there. she'd never had that type of exam before which the predatory doctor used to take advantage of her after he asks her if it's her first time (checking to see if she knew what to expect, and since she didn't, he was gross and got his fingers bitten off).

I love how everyone's concerned about negative influences on children when women's potential to suffer is shown (Twilight), but not men's potential to suffer. Do you NOT see men as people? Why am I asking? Your trifling upbringing ensured you never did and never will... Also, having ulterior motives doesn't make Ryan coercive (since Dawn was never forced, threatened, or negatively compelled by him) or invalidate Dawn's consent; YOU just think emotions have a place in legal matters, WHICH THEY DON'T, and YOU'RE just one of those MeTooers who think females should rewrite their sex lives based on the results of the sex that they had. But the fact that you brought up "undisclosed circumstances" is interesting; men don't get to use that as a defense of THEIR victimhood when women trap them with pregnancies, so why should it be used as a defense of Dawn mutilating Ryan? And since doing fucked up shit to people is an acceptable consequence of having fucked up shit done to you, does that mean I can shoot anyone who calls me out of my name?
