In this video we take a look at Tekton's PN 91804, a 3 Piece Set of Swivel Head Ratchets. The set includes a 1/4" Drive, 3/8" Drive, and 1/2" Drive all sporting Swivel Heads with Quick Release mechanisms. I picked the set up from Amazon for around $65 and represents a HUGE value.
This is my first experience with Tekton and I must say I am impressed. The initial quality seems good and the value this set represents is insane. Getting 3 Swivel Head Ratchets for $65 still just seems absurd to me.
The video was recorded way back in early March and subsequently I have used the ratchets a lot! I've put in the most time with the 3/8" Drive and 1/4" Drive (underbody plastics on my Challenger). Both have performed flawlessly and have made working in tight situations even easier.
Granted, I only have about 2 months of usage now, but so far so good.
Do you have this set of Tekton Swivel Head Ratchets? How has it held up for you? What is your experience with Tekton Tools and their products?
I will definitely be looking to Tekton for more tools in the future!

Tekton definitely puts no money into fancy packaging and that is fine with me, because that cost just goes directly into the tool. I can tell you I have been using Tekton for awhile now and these guys are top notch! I can't believe the value, these are professional grade tools, test after test these tools hold their own, right up there with Snap On. Warranty is the best in the industry hands down.

I can always use a socket driver and a ratcheting bit screwdriver and that's why between that and the 1/4 inch hex impact driver cordless 20v DeWalt dcf787 and the Milwaukee m18 version are usually sufficient.and check out some of the ratchet line from tekton

You might want to look at both the capri,gear wrench and the tekton hex, Allen or torx long bit sockets and one thing i like about the tekton sets is they have a set screw, and I believe the same thing for the capri i have the gear wrench version sets so I don't see buying the other two when they are very similar but I really like the tekton socket sets

Awesome! Thanks for the first hand feedback. At work a lot of our impact sets are missing sockets, some are worn, half the swivels no longer swivel...I was planning to bring in the Tekton set of 1/2" Drive due to the size range, etching, and price. I would have ordered late this week, but we got swamped. Will try to get them ordered Monday at the office. Their larger, contrast etching will be a nice perk for a few of the older guys.

I have had these Tekton ratchets for a several of years now. granted I only restore old cars as a hobby, but they seem to hold up great. the 3/8 in particular is my new go to ratchet any time I need to do any work on a car. people claim they are just rebranded harbor freight, but I don't think that is the case, Tekton designs most of their own tools and then has them manufactured overseas, I am betting that the same overseas company that makes these for Tekton is also selling them to Harbor Freight under their new Pittsburg Professional line, its also very similar to the Carlyle R38S100 so I would be suppressed if they made that ratchet as well... HF has been stepping up their game in the tool industry since about last year. a couple of years ago they only sold crappy tools that you were lucky if you didn't either break or hurt your self using. HF recently added a version of the Tekton composite ratchets that I have had for couple of years under the Pittsburg Professional line. which is why I think that it is a 3rd party manufacturer that is selling these to both Tekton and HF.

I’ve been wanting to get the 1/2 and 3/8. I have a Carlyle 1/4 and love it. I also have the largest Tekton socket sets in each drive size, a bunch of their screwdrivers and pliers, a set of their punches / chisels (almost all of the pliers, and all of the screwdrivers and punches/chisels are made in USA) and I have a full set of combination wrenches in both sae and metric. I also have other Tekton ratchets - flex heads etc. AND some Tekton hammers. All have been fantastic. Not crazy about some of the hammers, but love all of the rest of the tools. I’ve had to warrant one screwdriver and my wrench set came with two 22’s instead of a 21 and 22. Both times I just sent them a quick email. Part mailed next day on both. I have an extensive ratchet “collection”. SnapOn, matco, Mac, craftsman USA, new SK, Capri, among others. But I reach for my Tekton (or my Koken 3/8) almost every single time.

Since the swivel heads came out, I considered them to be akin to a Black & Decker gimmick (a dog bone, a battery-adjustable wrench, etc) but recently had a chance to borrow one and had a change of heart. It's not that bare metal is colder than other types of handles when it's -20, they're both the same temperature. It's that metal absorbs heat pretty fast while plastics and rubbers and such do not. The deal is that your hand is probably somewhat warmer than the surrounding environment while the tool is not, the metal is the same temperature as the surrounding environment so it can't suck any heat from there so it sucks the heat out of your hand as fast as it can, and it can suck the heat out far faster than rubber or plastic and such. Now if your hand is -30 the handle will feel warm...
@Joel_E
@Joel_E 3 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty decent explanation of thermal conduction. Two factors affect how hot or cold something feels: thermal conductivity and temperature difference. If you've ever wondered why the 350 degrees F air in your oven doesn't immediately burn you like boiling water (212 degrees F) does, it's because air is terrible at transferring heat, while water is very good at it.
